4 Questions Answered

Logan woke up in the orphanage's clinic after receiving that massive headache. The decor of the clinic is as rundown as the dining hall for the same reason of increasing donations.

"Get your ass up and go to class." said by Matron Maxine.

Maxine is twenty-six years old and working as a Matron for the orphanage. To work at the orphanage, the employee must be unsympathetic to his or her surroundings no matter the issue at hand.

Logan is obviously still groggy and pained with a headache but Matron Maxine did not care.

"Take these meds and go to class. If it still hurts then walk it off."

Logan was obviously unhappy but he dared not to show it in his face because entering the cold or sound room would just elevate the pain.

When he was about to exit the clinic, he heard a sound in his head,

"Why did I have to apply as a matron? If I knew that I would be working with whiny kids then there was no way I would have taken this job. Also, all the secrets I have to keep are fucking horrifying. Whatever. At least the pay is nice."

Logan looked and then turned around and looked at Matron Maxine.

"Whatever. I'll just suck it up so I don't get killed. This orphanage needs to go to hell."

This string of comments is normal and heard from every member of the orphanage. To prevent any secrets from leaking, any workers who are not devoted to the business are unable to leave. They would be provided with the best food and housing but leaving the orphanage would lead to death.

Her words did not surprise Logan but her mouth did because,

Throughout her conversation, her mouth never opened.

Even though he heard a voice in his head, he believed that it was just in his head because he was still dizzy and tired.

On the way to class, he kept hearing random voices mixed together. Some of the voices talked about classwork, some talked about the cold and sound rooms, and some talked about what type of food will be served in the cafeteria, etc. He could convince himself that he was just tired the first time but after hearing all these voices at once, he started guessing if he can read minds.

He thought to himself, "This can't be true. It's just impossible."

To calm himself down, he decided to test whether he can read minds or not.

He silently entered the classroom and sat on his desk. Because the matron currently teaching did not know that he was in the clinic, she shouted at him,

"Ohh. Skipping class. I didn't think anyone had the guts to do so. You are only three years old and already thought about skipping class."

"Alright. Since you're so smart, answer the question on the board. Only smart people knows how to skip class."

Logan thought to himself, "This is unfair. I fainted at the dark room and now you're saying that I skipped class. Also what logic is that? Are you saying that only smart people know how to skip class."

Because of Gina's death, Logan was emotionally unstable. As he was about to shout at her, not caring what punishment he'll get, he suddenly thought of testing whether he can read minds or not.

There is a question written on the board and it says "If x=5 and y=10, then what is 2x+3y?"

He quickly answered, "The answer is 40."

Students were expected to answer these questions correctly because they would not be fed if they failed but Logan surprised the teacher. She stuttered,

"T-Th-That's correct. Go back to your seat."

She suddenly thought, "He probably guessed. I haven't even started the lesson yet."

After she thought that, she would have never realized that Logan heard her. Logan went back to his seat surprised and silently thought,

"I heard her! I really heard her!"

The matron went back to the board and started the lesson.

Logan was able to answer the question because he searched for the answer in his mind. By simply requesting an answer, he was able to find out the answer without even knowing the process.

He asked himself, "All I had to do is ask and I would get the answer from her head. Isn't this too convenient?"

While Logan was still contemplating about his power, the matron suddenly asked,

"Logan. Get up on the board and do this question. Instead of just saying the answer, I also want you to explain your thought process. The question is if 20=(y+5)/x and y=5, then what is x?"

The matron purposefully chose Logan because he embarrassed her earlier. Also, because the question was something that she hasn't been taught yet, she laughingly thought,

"He answered the question earlier so fast that he probably guessed. For embarrassing me in front of the class, I'm gonna make you look stupid and not only take away your meal but also send you to the room. Whether it is the cold or sound room, I'll just flip a coin."

While she was still thinking, Logan quickly answered,

"Since y=5 then the numerator must be 10. To remove x as the denominator, multiply it to the 20 on the left side. By doing this, the question would be changed to 20x=10. To isolate the x, you have to divide 20 to the right side making it x=10/20 which could further be reduced to one half."

To complete the question, all Logan had to do was ask what the process was and it directly shot to his mind. He guessed that because she knew the process, he would be able to read her mind and use her skills.

Doesn't this mean that as long as the teacher knew the process then he would as well?

As she was about to tell him that he was wrong, she suddenly froze on the spot. She made the question on a whim not knowing whether it was right or not because she thought that he was going to be wrong anyway until she computed the answer.

She realized that not only did Logan answer correctly but also did not use the board and only used his words. Even though the question was simple for adults, for a three year old child to know the answer and say the whole process without faltering shocked her mind.

At an early age, many children are visual learners. For Logan not to use the board to check his answer, she assumed that a new genius entered her class.

She thought, "It was his fault that Gina died so I was intending to punish him for making me lose a gifted child but I never knew that Logan was also a genius. Won't this increase my prestige in the orphanage? I just created two geniuses at the same time."

While she was laughing at the inside, she didn't see Logan's eyes because if she were to look at it now, she would see the eyes of a killer looking for a victim.
