5 Logan's Value

Matron Kelly, the thirty year old classroom teacher, was ecstatic for finding another talented child. Gina was her favorite student because her prestige as a teacher rose above her peers when she showcased Gina's intelligence. When Gina died, if Logan did not show his intelligence, she would have tortured him to appease her anger. Because she found another prodigy, she was glistening with joy.

When Logan went back to his seat, he started to test his power extensively.

Logan tested his power on Matron Kelly multiple times and discovered one major aspect: he can understand the knowledge of the person whose mind he is reading. The longer he read Matron Kelly's mind the more he realized that he had formulated ideas and reasoning far higher than his age. He is practically copying Matron Kelly's knowledge.

In other words, his mind's comprehension is now equivalent to a thirty year old.

He was temporarily scared when he discovered that there is a possibility that he might copy Matron Kelly's personality but after a few tests, he understood that his mindset and personality hasn't changed. He didn't want to be an exact copy of the arrogant and conceited Matron Kelly.

After a few hours, the dinnertime bell rang.

Once Logan sat down, he immediately became depressed because this is the first time he ate without Gina. The dining hall was the place where he and Gina was able to communicate as brother and sister without the pressure of studying and torture.

Even though everyday was arduous and torturous, Gina cheered him up in various ways but the most effective was food. Because Gina always had the best food, he would always anticipate mealtime because he knew that she would share her food.

But now, because of her absence, he went to a deep state of depression and anger.

He didn't cry when he watched her die but when he looked at his food, tears started gushing from his eyes. Even though he had the mind of an adult, he was still a three year old child.

He eventually stopped crying and as he quieted down, plans from his head started forming in his mind. After finishing his process, he had a thought,

"Because the orphanage was unreasonable for killing my friend, I will be unreasonable. You think that you are the only capable of being unreasonable? Watch Me."

Once he came up with his resolution, his mind started to conjure plans for revenge.

....................

After class, Matron Kelly quickly ran past through all the classrooms and halls to reach the main office where Matriarch Fiona resided.

The Bella Orphanage is around a century and half years old and it had two Matriarchs. Matriarch Fiona was the adopted daughter of the second Matriarch and is the successor of the orphanage. She is the currently the third Matriarch of the orphanage and is only thirty six years old.

For someone able to handle an orphanage without its secrets exposed on the modern age showed her immense intellect. Compared to the other Matriarchs, Fiona was the smartest.

Matron Kelly barged through the office door and said, "Matriarch. I found another genius to replace Gina. After her death, I thought that the orphanage suffered a huge loss so I decided to raise a new one for the sake of the orphanage."

She obviously didn't turn Logan into a genius, but she used him anyway to increase her status in the orphanage. Her status definitely lowered after Gina's death so she used Logan to raise it back up.

"Not only is he smart but is also smarter than Gina. Also, he is perfectly healthy with no scars or whatsoever." she said with great confidence without even checking whether she is right or not.

Gina's death made Matriarch Fiona furious. Not only was Gina worth millions but also her favorite child. If nothing happened to Gina, there was a huge chance that she would have adopted Gina to be the next Matriarch.

When Matron Kelly barged into her office earlier, she was about to reprimand her until she heard about Logan.

"Are you sure? You better not be joking with me because I would kill you myself if you did. What's the child's name? How smart is he?"

Hearing the string of questions, Matron Kelly knew that the Matriarch was excited. She further tried to make herself look more valiant.

"His name is Logan and he is only three years old. To be honest, Logan was not smart at all but after Gina's death, I decided to train him to recover our losses and created a new genius. Even though I only had class with him this afternoon, I knew that my teachings today increased his intellect."

The Matriarch knew that she lied but she was too happy to say otherwise. She laughed and said, "I know you only focus on math so he needs more testing but if what you said is true, you made a huge contribution to the orphanage. Not only will I increase your pay but also extend your vacations."

The Matriarch suddenly stopped what she was doing and sent all the children to bed and called all the teachers to the main office. Once the sun set, all the teachers waited for her to speak.

"Matron Kelly has raised another genius to be sold and is apparently smarter than Gina. Tomorrow, classes will be canceled so all of you can test him to see which subjects he is good at. I would hand out a test for each subject and the teacher who increased his score the most would become the leader under me. For us to get another genius is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Her bright voice suddenly turned dark.

"If he truly is smarter than Gina, I'm gonna warn all of you. If one of you hurts him and give him even the tiniest injury, I'll personally torture you. If you die in the process, I'll revive you and torture you again. Don't think that Patron Mark is the only one talented with torture"

With a firm voice, "Alright. Dismissed."

All of the matrons and patrons gulped and exited the office.

They each thought to themselves that they need to teach Logan better than everyone else to receive that promotion. If the Matriarch doesn't find a successor, the second-in-command will be the second choice.

....................

Logan woke up and used his power to survey the surroundings. One of the limits of his power is how close he needs to be to read their mind. At the moment, he can only reach as far five meters.

Another limit is the amount of minds he can read. If he read one mind at a time, he would be able to properly combine all the correct information from different minds but if he read more than one, their mind's opposing beliefs, ideas, and information would confuse his brain. Also, he would be unable to determine who's brain he is reading.

The door suddenly opened and Matron Kelly quickly said,

"Logan it's time for class. This time will be different because you will be tested by everyone. If you pass, you will receive the best treatment such as better food and housing."

As she kept talking, Logan heard a sentence that solidified his motivation.

"You can finally put this orphanage away from your mind for good."

To her, this was meant to encourage to him to do better in his studies but she didn't realize that she encouraged him in a different way.

He was suddenly encouraged to put away the orphanage from his mind by destroying it and by exposing its atrocities to the world. In his mind, he said firmly,

"My objective is clear and my revenge starts now."
