glass chapter 1 the apocalypse

on a stormy night in the city, an unassuming slim young man with blonde hair and copper eyes sat in a cafe eating his dinner, the diner music playing in the background.

just another Saturday night. across from him the young woman who was to be his fiance was picking at her hair and surfing the web on her phone.

' honey? the man intoned, is everything alright? her face had contorted into a look of disgust as she had bit into her burger, a scene from the news playing on her

phone. honey? the man asked again, a tone of worry leaking into his voice. the woman whose face was still contorted in vivid disgust finally spoke , they found another dead body

in town and the reports are showing that it was more vicious than the last kill. they say that the mans body was torn to shreds and most of his organs were apparently eaten or

torn from the body.

my lord! , exclaimed the man, what do they think did it?, a wild animal in the city? just then the tv static rumbled to life with a blaring alarm :

alert, alert! alll citizens there is a storm heading to the area all citizens should evacuate to bunkers as soon as possible! i repeat evacuate as soon as possible!

the couple startled by the sudden alarm called for the tab and gathered their things in preperation to leave the diner. after settling their tab the couple rushed out pulling

coats over themselves, heading in the direction of the local shelter. soon after arriving they were escorted into the bunker and handed some blankets and towels to dry and

warm themselves. settling into a bunk to wait they could hear the storm raging around them, but also a strange screeching of metal. a crowd had gathered around

the local policeman to ask him what the sound was and he was visibly stressed by the crowd , saying he would go and find out for everyone. the policeman headed to the

door to the foyer and checked the small window on the door seeing only trees blowing in the wind and leaves blowing by, nothing out of the ordinary.

the policeman seeing that nothing was amiss decided to grab a snack from the vending machine in the hall . he stood in front of the machine and selected

his snack and put in some change. as he was waiting for it to dispense the snack he heard a noise. a metallic scratching sound that appeared to be coming from the front door he

had just checked. the man annoyed that he would have to check it again stooped and took his snack then opening it slowly waddled back towards the door to see if it was just

some debree. as he got to the door a powerful gust of wind suddenly threw it open blowing in the scent of rain and some scattered leaves into the foyer. a scratching sound could

be heard coming closer. the man suddenly felt a chill and rushed to close the door as fast as he could, dropping his food in the process. as soon as he reached the door and was

about to swing it closed a large paw with long scaled fingers reached out and tore the mans throat out splashing blood across the wall of the room. the mans face went cold and

the sound of gurgling could be heard coming from the mans mouth. a slender bony beast with glowing red eyes and matted black fur slowly sauntered into the room and stood over the

dying man. its eyes full of cruel joy and saliva running hungrily down its exposed fangs. the man still clinging to life albeit barely slowly drug himself away from the

abomination his eyes quaking with fear and indignation, seemingly angry with how this being had done him in. the man had barely reached the edge of the foyer when the beast lay

its massive from paws upon his head and crushed down with the force of a mountain, splattering the mans blood and brain across the walls and floor of the once pristine room.

back in the bunkers lower room the crowd was becoming rather anxious. there were whispers of, the cop hasn't came back yet' why? ' what could be taking so long?

others were thinking that he was just being lazy or trying to play a cruel joke on the already tense crowd of people. the group only grew more nervous as the minutes grew

longer. soon the opinion of the people had shifted to ,something must have happened! and a group of young men was gathering lights and as many heavy objects as they could find.

soon the group of men was ready and ventured forth into the upper halls, maintaining absolute silence the whole way. the young blonde man was with them, thinking in his head he

was going to look so cool and brave for his fiance. soon they reached the door to the hall at the top of the stairs after having checked the other rooms on the way.

the blonde man quietly pushed the door open and peaked his head around the corner and paled. hurriedly pulling his head back around the door in a hushed scream, his eyes blood shot and

face pale as if drained of all vitality , he spoke, is this the only way out of this building?! the group saw the fear in the mans eyes and became concerned, a tall man with broad shoulders

,thinking the blonde was just being a pain brushed past and slammed the door open saying, what is it a wild animal? ya know if you make loud noises you scare them a-way...

then the broad shouldered mans face fell. for laying there head crushed and insides torn from his body was the cop, and atop him was a beast so vile that for the first time in his life the broad shouldered man

knew fear, and it was looking right at him.

reports say that a wild animal is most likely the culprit of the multiple murders at the bunker on main.. the reporter intoned, in an almost bored voice.

sitting at the counter eating his morning cereal a youth of about 17 with dark black hair and dull brown eyes was listening to the news report.

scary! ,thought the boy, i hope that the beast gets caught. Lucius! called his mother, you're gonna be late for school!

Lucius jumped up from his chair and grabbed his bag for school , heading that way now mom! he called out.

as he got to school he noticed more TVs showing the case of the bunker murders, calling for any info that could be spared to try and help with finding the dangerous animal that could have been the culprit. As the day progressed the armed forces of the area had found their way into the area of the murders and were looking in hopes of finding more evidence. as the army moved in to the woods outside of the bunker they saw evidence of a large creature having been in the area. later that night they set up camp and were about to finally call it a night when a crash was heard in the woods. the soldiers on duty grabbed their guns and flashlights and set out to investigate, soon the sounds of struggle could be heard in the woods and shots were fired. the remaining men rushed to their comrades aid and started firing at the elusive figure of a massive beast one with scales that glittered like chain mail.the bullets ricocheted off of the reptilian armor as the beast seized another man and tore him apart. soon there were no more men and the authorities were shocked by what they found that next day.

Lucius unaware of the horrors that lay in wake of the night lay sleeping in his bed dreaming of a world of glass.
