CHAPTER 89 - COMBO FAILURE

"For our next battle, it will be Raynevere Treenity and Elzane Chaldeas versus Taylor Blade and Kristen Rattler!" The emcee proclaimed, giving hype to the audience of this coliseum.

This will be our second to the last fight of the night. Raynevere and I made our entrances to the arena, and as soon as we saw the brightness of the spotlight, we had a good look at our next opponents.

Taylor Blade is a handsome hunk wearing only jeans. He doesn't have any shirt, and he's walking on the floor of the arena barefoot. Thousands of girls shrieked upon seeing his oily six-pack abs. He has these metallic gauntlets on his arms that might be his weapon.

My Gladiatrix System detects that he is a Cyber Werewolf, but I couldn't identify if he is one. The only proof that he's a canine is that he has this golden eyes that looked as intimidating as Himeno Yuusha.

On the other hand, Kristen Rattler is an emotionless red-haired white high-school girl, maybe the same age as us Raynevere. There's nothing noteworthy about this woman, except that she looked like she was revived from the dead and left her emotions on the grave.

"Oh my gosh, we're fighting." Kristen Rattler gasped monotonously.

Meanwhile, my attention was caught by Raynevere who looked at me with a smile on her face.

"Hey, hey, Elzane. Let's beat Ms. Himeno's record! Let's finish this as fast as we can!" Raynevere cheered.

"If the Command Cards I draw out are favorable, then why not?" I said.

"Contestants, get ready!" The emcee said.

As soon as the emcee gave us a mark, both Gladiator and Gladiatrix went to their battle positions. Surprisingly, the macho hunk Taylor Blade spread out his arms, and his gauntlets unleashed three long blades that looked like super long claws. His weapon is very much the same as Himeno Yuusha.

That purple cat demolished a Cyber Elf mercilessly earlier. Now I'm quite pumped up to do the same on this Cyber Werewolf.

[Battle Start]

As soon as the system beeped, I drew out five hologram cards from my Kaiser Watch. Jackpot! I have the Combo Sword on my first draw!

Now it is up to me how I should connect this Combo Sword to Raynevere's actions. Combo Sword is unbelievably easy to dodge, so I should only use this if there is an opening to the opponent Gladiator.

"Raaaaaaah!" The Cyber Werewolf roared, and I saw his fangs resembling a canine. His muscles sprouted thick fur. Now he's showing his real form!

"Hiyah!" Raynevere unleashed three arrows in the first act, but it was deflected by the Cyber Werewolf's metal claws.

When Raynevere learned almost immediately that a long-ranged attack will not work on this caliber of an enemy, she bolted forward with extraordinary speed matching those of a cheetah!

"Oh my gosh, she's fast." The opponent Kaiser commented without emotions. Then she snatched one hologram card at her disposal and revealed it up in the air! "Activate Skill Card: Flame Enchant."

Fires started to coat the Cyber Werewolf's metal claws. Then, the said Gladiator bolted forward, at the same speed as Raynevere! They are planning to clash head-on!

There is only a little window for an opening, and only a split-second to attack first! I will have to use one of our combos that matched Master Siferas during our training sessions!

"Activate Equip Card: Striker Wing!" I revealed my first Command Card.

Crimson cybernetic wings sprouted on Raynevere's back. As the photons of the wings blasted off, her speed quadrupled, seemingly ready for a quick crash toward the enemy Cyber Werewolf!

Five meters. Four meters. Three meters. They are now both in range of each other!

"Graaaaah!" The Cyber Werewolf pounced and slashed his long metal claws against Raynevere!

However, in the nick of time, Raynevere kicked the ground and boosted in the air. She performed an awesome somersault toward the enemy's back!

"Oh my gosh, she dodged it." Kristen Rattler commented.

But that's not it. I have already stuck one of the Command Cards on my hand. This is a tactic to activate two Command Cards in a short period!

"Activate Skill Card: Combo Sword!"

A short sword materialized on Raynevere's right hand, and then she swiped it toward the Cyber Werewolf's back! It was a clean hit, and the opponent Gladiator staggered and was stunned as a result!

"Grah!" The Cyber Werewolf cried.

Due to the effects of Combo Sword, I will draw one card on my deck. If it is a Skill Card, it will be activated. If not, the combo ends.

"First Draw!" I happily proclaimed.

But then my smile turned to a frown of disappointment. I realized that the very first draw of my combo turned out not to be a Skill Card, but an Equip Card: Striker Wing. I have three of these cards on my deck.

"Eh?"

Soon after, the Combo Sword on Raynevere's hand disappeared!
