143 Remorse

Before the news of Ashina's death broke.

After leaving the Uzukage's place, Jun scoured through Uzushiogakure in search of someone.

Now that he had told Ashina about the possible emergence of Tobi, a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Although he couldn't be there for fear of entering the other Madara's radar, at least he could say he did something.

Now, while Tobi was held up by Ashina, he would carry out his plan.

Maybe he couldn't stop his other self from killing the Uzumaki leader, but considering the situation after his interference, it didn't look like the clan would be wiped out. Jun wouldn't stop there. He still had another way to inconvenience the other Madara's plans.

After a few hours of intangibly creeping into people's homes like a ghost, he finally found who he was looking for.

In front of him, lying in a large bed, a family of three were resting. The woman had long, red hair, and the man's was jet black. In between them, a small, red-haired boy slept peacefully, with a blissful smile plastered on his face and a little plushie, he hugged tightly.

'Nagato....'

Seeing his expression, Jun felt a heart-rending pain assault him, although he was able to suppress it quickly. In his past life, he had done terrible things to this innocent child.

'I bent your views on the world. I tore your world apart. I made you suffer like no other person has... Only to throw you away, like a means to an end.'

A deep sense of guilt shrouded Jun's mind. Having reincarnated, one of the things he regretted the most was his usage of Nagato. To destroy a person's psyche in this manner was something that made him wonder if he was himself after he awakened the Rinnegan. This sort of inhumane behavior sounded repulsive to him now.

'You suffered for my ambitions. Nagato, in this life, I won't let you, or anyone else that matters, suffer.'

Phasing out of the wall, Jun landed in front of the family of three. The sound his feet made when touching the floor woke Fuso --Nagato's mother-- up.

"Hmm...? Is someone-"

As soon as she saw Jun's ghostly figure, she opened her mouth to scream but was immediately paralyzed. Jun's crimson eyes spun wildly as he placed her under a genjutsu.

It was nothing harmful. Jun would just put her a suggestive illusion that made her prone to believing his words.

Awoken by his wife's brisk movements, Ise also woke up, rubbing his eyes as he yawned lazily. Looking up at his wife, he saw her staring in a specific direction.

"Dear, is there a-"

As soon as he turned to look at Jun, he also fell into a genjutsu. Placing a finger on his lips, Jun motioned for them to follow him into the living room. Nodding, they both got up without waking Nagato and walked over.

Back to the present day, on one of the boats headed to the land of fire.

Nagato's family was unrecognizable. Their appearances and auras had changed entirely, and they sat near Jun, still disoriented.

'Mama... Why are we leaving the village? Why did we change our appearance?" Looking up at his mother with an innocent expression, Nagato tightly hugged his plushie.

Seeing this, Fuso choked up and brought him closer, wrapping her arms around him. "it's okay... Mammy and daddy will always be here for you, so it doesn't matter if we're in the village or elsewhere..."

"Mm..." Not understanding half of her words, the four-year-old Nagato hugged his mother tightly, refusing to let go. Next to them, his father watched them with teary eyes.
