The Unexpected Arrival Of Divorce Agreement

||Asher||

The next morning.

"What? From Attorney Su?"

Caleb frowned hearing what one of his subordinates told him. The young woman in a professional suit handed him an envelope. She stood in front of his desk. Both of them were inside Caleb's personal office.

"It should be from Old Madam Shen, to be more exact," said the secretary, "Attorney Su's assistant delivered this here by himself. He said we have to give it to the President as soon as possible."

The creases on Caleb's forehead grew deeper. He took the envelope from the secretary.

"I'll send it to the President. His schedule has been freed now."

The secretary nodded. She returned to her workstation. The others quietly glanced at Caleb and the secretary, interested to know if the matter was worthy of gossip.

Caleb silently stared at the stamp that was exclusive to Attorney Su. He raked his brain, trying to come up with a possibility that needed Old Madam Shen to go through the attorney.

What made her do that?

As far as Caleb remembered, the Old Madam had just returned to the country. She was abroad before to visit her sick friend.

Upon knowing the incident that befell on the young madam, the matriarch lashed out at everyone.

The President was the most affected party but, he didn't even pay attention to his grandmother's fury.

"Don't tell me that the Old Madam wants to fire the president from his post? Nah... it's too silly to think of that."

Caleb rose up to his feet. He gathered the files that Asher requested before. The envelope sat on top of the files.

After getting everything, Caleb hurried to the President's office.

Inside the spacious office, Asher was focusing on the laptop screen. He was analyzing the data sent by the Planning Department. It was regarding the collaboration between Shen and Xin.

Xin family was an old name in the capital. They rose to fame around the same time the Shen family got recognition for their ventures more than a century ago. Even though their styles were different, the elders of both families were good friends with each other.

Asher was not one to form a collaboration with someone just because they were close. He had faith in Thomas Xin, the Xin family's current head. Thomas was also his father-in-law.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The three collective knocks came from Caleb. Asher lifted up his gaze from the screen. Caleb was allowed to enter immediately without getting any response from Asher first.

"President, I've brought the files," Caleb walked toward Asher's working desk, "The secretarial department received an envelope from Attorney Su."

"From Attorney Su?" Asher raised up his brows, "Is there something important? It wasn't directed to our legal team?"

"No, President," Caleb placed the files on a corner of the huge desk. He handed the sealed envelope to Asher, "That's what confused me too. It shall be a personal matter instead of related to the company."

Without being spelled out, Asher knew the one behind this was his own grandmother.

Attorney Su had never done this. If there was a need, the trusted attorney of his grandmother would directly link with the company's legal team.

"I'll read the letter first."

Caleb nodded. He took one step back and stood opposite the desk, waiting for the next instruction.

Asher carefully unsealed the envelope. He brought out a few pages of papers from the inside.

"...?!"

Asher sucked in a sharp breath. His eyes widened the second he read the title of the notice.

[Divorce Agreement]

The instant change of his usually impassive expression caught Caleb's attention but, the chief assistant just remained quiet. His mind raked different situations inside his mind.

Asher quickly regained his composure. He started to carefully read every letter printed on the white papers. Liliana's full name as well as his were marked as Party A and Party B respectively.

The more he read it, the darker his gaze was. Silent fury and disbelief swirled in his obsidian's eyes.

"Go out."

Asher slammed the papers down on the table.

"Understood, President."

Caleb was aware of the heavy pressure exuding from his boss. It was better to retreat first instead of becoming canon fodder.

After giving Asher a bow, Caleb quickly walked out of the office. But, his mind was still thinking of the notice that could extract such a reaction from the president.

Asher rubbed his face. He couldn't exactly tell what he was feeling right now.

Was it just pure shock? Or together with betrayal?

Why did his grandmother suddenly have Attorney Su drafting a divorce letter between Liliana and him?

Everything was in complete detail, including the alimony demanded by Liliana's side.

What the hell was this?

Asher reached out for his phone. He took a couple of deep breaths while waiting for the call to be answered. His brows continued scrunching up.

"Asher."

Old Madam Shen's voice echoed at the end of the line. Her tone was not as carefree and loving as usual. It was enough to tell Asher that something was definitely wrong.

"Grandmother... what is the meaning of this?" Asher gritted his teeth, "Why did Attorney Su file a divorce on Liliana's behalf?"

"It is as you've seen it. I want Lili to be freed of you. Don't worry, she's also agreed to the divorce."

Old Madam Shen didn't put up a front. She only stated the facts.

Asher's pupils shrank. The grip around his phone grew firmer.

"Grandmother, why so suddenly? What has happened?"

"Do you think this is out of the blue?"

Old Madam Shen returned a question of her own to her grandson instead of answering him. Her tone steadily turned colder.

"Yes."

Asher frowned, still not understanding the need to divorce Liliana.

All this time, Asher knew how much his grandmother adored Liliana. Even though his wife was an illegitimate child, he didn't care about her status. He just married Liliana because his grandmother chose her.

To Asher, the identity of his wife was not important. It was just a means for him to get an heir through a legal way.

Since his grandmother adored the young lady of the Xin family, he just went along with it.

"Grandmother, I'll talk to Liliana. I don't believe..."

"Do you know where she is now?"

Asher was interrupted once again by his own grandmother.

"Isn't she with you at the ancestral home?"

Old Madam Shen sighed, "Asher, sometimes I regret how you grow up to be. Just sign the document."

Tut!

Asher was stunned. The call was unceremoniously ended by his grandmother.

Uh oh, serve you right
