2 The New Beginning

Next morning, Lia already woke up and started to unpack her bags. She planned to organize her closet, but before that, she went to wake her mother.

Giselle was pretty tired from the travel and was sound asleep. Lia felt sad, watching at her mother sleeping soundly. So, she left the room without causing any trouble.

Giselle had two days off before starting her new job as an "Editor." Those two days she planned to spend with her daughter Lia. However, the stress of moving to another country and settling down took a load of energy from her body. She felt exhausted and just slept it off.

It was afternoon already, Lia managed to eat some leftover snacks and fruits for breakfast. She mainly focused on decorating her room and avoid getting distracted even to eat some food. She was excited as the place was spotless and compact. There was a window near the bed which allowed the sunlight into the room. She found it pleasant and entirely focused on perfecting her room as soon as possible.

...

Meantime, Giselle opened her eyes slowly and scanned around. The room was still in the dark but, the sunny daylight shadowed through the window screen. She glanced around her nightstand to find her mobile phone.

The time was 3:00 PM; It startled her.

She hopped out of her bed and quickly ran out to the living room as she called for her daughter, "Lia."

Lia was nearing the verge of devastating starvation, and in between arranging her room, she stepped out slowly like a zombie but with one hand on her belly and other supporting the wall.

"Yes, mother," she replied.

Seeing her kid's state, Giselle understood that she slept off again.

"You must be starving, right?" Giselle uttered in a low tone.

"You think so, mother? I might soon die from starving," Lia cried and fell on the couch.

Giselle called the same pizza place from last night and ordered two large pizzas.

"Extra cheese will save my life, mother," Lia screeched in her sweet voice.

"Oh, yes with extra cheese," Giselle carried the message to the pizza store.

...

Nearly after 30 minutes of massive starvation, their pizza finally arrived. Lia's hunger turned her into a vampire when she saw the delivery boy. She snatched the pizza from him and ran away while Giselle paid the bill.

Lia vigorously opened the box and got her first slice like a wild animal jumping onto its prey. Such a vigorous action got her choked as she pulled out the juice bottle that was resting on the floor. She chugged down half of the bottle in one gulp.

Giselle couldn't forgive her mistake.

"Forgive me, Lia. I promise I'll never leave you starving again," she apologized.

"Just let me know the number and how to make the call. I'll be fine by myself, mother. I would never have to starve to death again." Lia responded.

Giselle felt regretful hearing those words.

Seeing her mother feeling guilty, she couldn't keep herself from making a joke to change the mood.

***

It is almost 5:00 PM.

Lia was resting on the couch, and beside her were two Pizza boxes. One of them was empty, and the other had few pieces left. The juice bottle abandoned on the floor.

Giselle had just finished her shower came back and saw the scene. She removed the empty boxes and collected empty bottles from the floor, the remaining few pizza slices, she finished it.

She got herself a glass of water from the kitchen and looked at the boxes in the living room, which is to be unwrapped and arranged.

While wondering about 'how to approach the art of unpacking,' she heard a sound.

It is her Mobile phone, and she went to answer it.
