2 Chapter 2

While Rax and Rex is teaching each other things. Both of them also learning ways to communicate and to fight together.

Since they never work together before, it hit off a rough start.

For the whole week, they work on it. Not only are they training, they are also keeping a look out for any suspicious activity online. While maintaining cover as old friends.

It was tough for the first few days, but repeating the same pattern allowed them to learn easier.

Of course, having a certain pattern might not be the best. If an attacker wants to strike anyone of them, knowing the time they meet will make it easier.

However, they have no choice but to do it this way due to their lack of knowledge about the other party.

During a day.

Rax is wearing a black shorts and is shirtless, his arm locking Rex arm. Rex tried to use his long sleeve shirt to slip his arm away, but Rax has it locked tightly.

"Damn it!" Rex cursed, "Ahh. Let go, my arm is breaking."

Rax let go of Rex dark green sleeve, as Rex regained his footing..

Beep. Beep. Beep.

Without saying anything, Rex quickly ran over to his computer room.

.

When entering Rex's small apartment, to the right there is a small living room with a couch and TV, along with a punching bag hanging near the window. And a big mat underneath it. More towards the right corner, there is a small kitchen with a stove and fridge. Counters for food, sinks, and cabinets hoveirng overhead and some used as a counter.

A turn to the left and there is a small hallway to the different rooms. One of the room is the computer room Rex is running towards.

Opposite it is his bedroom, and beside his room is the toilet. At the end of the small hallway, is his storage space which also serve as a bomb bunker.

Rex entered his computer room. A long wooden table at the right side, with a hovering keyboard nearer to the right side, and a hovering screen. On the left side, there's the traditional keyboard and monitor. A headphone and a mouse is connected to the screen as another cable from the screen is connected to a small black box beside it.

On the left side of his room there is a shelf with a glass covering. Inside is not noticeable if you don't look closely. Inside has four different columns. The first two is filled books with all sorts of shape and size. The last two each has three boxes filled with cables and other things.

The traditional screen is lit up and Rex jumped onto his office chair. He pushed the wheels toward the table.

"Anything?" Rax asked, wiping away his sweats as he watch Rex typing away on the keyboard like someone possessed.

"The alarm has been trigger so of course there is something. Unless is a bug, which will be annoying." Rex repiled, his eyes on the screen. "Go away. Your presence disrupt me." He said, as Rax just left.

This is the reason no one likes Rex. But Rax doesn't mind as he understands Rex well enough.

Rex isn't the best at communicating with people, but he is the best at his own job.

Rax went over and grab the small towel he brought from his bag.

"Why did you decide to sleep over again?" Rex asked, as he came out. Usually Rax only go back to the office as a cover up of having an office job.

But he usually come to Rex house to sleep.

"You're not homeless, are you?"

"I'm not." Rax said, "I just rarely go back home."

"Suit yourself to the couch than." He shrugged, "Also, there seems to be a problem. A new vignette. I stay here, you go."

"Alright." Rax wore his shirt, and his uniform. Which is a long black coat that is also a protective armor. "I will rely on your providing the information." He wore a cap and pull a mask over his face.

"What's with that?"

"I changed my hair cut, and who knows if it's a gas that force genes activation."

"Two steps ahead. Great!" Rex gave a thumbs up, as he went back to the computer room.

Shadow envelop Rax as he disappeared into the shadow.

His shadow escaped under the door and travelled in the dark spaces of the city.

"Wow! Is your gene related to speed?" He heard Rex asking from his earpiece in his mask.

"Sort of, I can't be seen coming out like that of your apartment."

"True, anyways, take a right turn now."

Rax turned right and saw a masked vignette fighting another villain.

He reappeared in the shadow and observed.

The villain has bright orange hair like a fire, he is wearing a brown jacket and jeans.

His hands is lit on fire, as he threw at the vignette who threw up an energy shield.

The vignette is wearing a half mask that only cover the top of her face. The mask looks like a piece of cloth over her face. Her eyes are covered by white cloth, but she seems to be able to see through it so it might be a one way material.

Her off-white hair hair tied up, as she is wearing a white shirt with black jacket open up, and a sports short. Her jacket seem to have some stained on it.

"You can't just shoot fire at people you like!" She said, as the fire was absorb by her shield.

"Foolish!" The villain smirked, "What's the point of not using the genes we are gifted with!?"

"What's the point of harming people with it?"

"Pst pst to Raxy." Rax heard Rex, "Think you can save her?"

"Why?"

"She's my sis."

"What??"

"Haha! She's alive!"

"You owe me an explanation." He sighed.

While they were talking, the villain tried to attack again but this time she dodged it and charged.

A sword of energy formed around her hand and she slashed in the villain chest. Blood spilled and reached her jacket.

"Alright, police here. I will be taking him." Rax said escaping from the shadow, "Using your power without license is against the law, you know that?"

"Try catching me first." She smirked, she seem to be about to jump away but Rax already reached behind her and cuffed her hand.

"Done."

"Huh?" She seemed shocked at Rax speed, as the cuff restricts her genes, she seem to have shank down.

"You are not even ten. Hm?" Rax was a little surprised, but more amused as the clothes she have on is too big for her.

"Damn it." She said, as the mask covered her whole face.

"Let's go." He said, holding the villain too as the three disappeared into the shadow.

'Where am I?' She panicked, but remained calm as she felt safe. She look around and felt like she is in a car. She seem to see the police station and felt scared.

But she saw the guy that took her outside and she seem to be inside his shadow, he hand over the villain and walked somewhere, before disappearing and travelling somewhere else.

'Great, I'm getting kidnapped.' She thought, as now they seem to be inside an apartment.

Then everything became bright again, as she seem to be inside an apartment.

Before she could register anything, she felt something grabbed her.

She doesn't know this feeling, but it felt familiar. The warmth she never felt in such a long time.

She look over and saw her brother, his tears running down his face but a big smile is attached on it.

"Where have you been..? I thought I lost you.." He cried, removing her mask.

Her eyes is like her brother, ruby red red. However, a big scar is across her forehead.

"Who did this to you!?" Rex yelled, scaring her. "Sorry Rey, do you mind telling me?" He asked gently, as she looked down on the ground.

"During the chaos, I was taken away. In a lab, they wanted to test my genes. There was a time, I refused and one of the scientists almost killed me by using his power to cut my head. I don't remember much from the lab, but it got busted. I been on streets for about a year, I managed to steal those, and I saw the villain burning people which made me remember the lab. I tried to protect, but I didn't want him to harm anyone, so I attacked him." As she was speaking, tears already appeared in her eyes, as she started crying and hugged Rex. "Big bro, I miss you!"

"I'm here now, I won't let you go again."

Rax was watching the whole thing, as he pondered, 'Was that why most of his cases are related to finding missing kids? He doesn't like to take other cases. He always seems anxious, was this why?'

Looking at the two, it is obvious they are siblings despite the difference in hair colour.

After a while, Rex went to prepare a bed for Rey as he turned on the TV and set to the cartoon channel.

"If anything happens to her, I will kill you." Rex glared at Rax, even as he slowly walk to the room.

"Rey, right?" Rax asked, as she nodded, "Was one of the scientists called Yozen?"

She stopped and tried to think.

"He have a beard, rectangular looking eye. He's gene is related to strength."

"Yeah. He was one of those that fight me everyday." Rey replied, looking down.

"I arrested him." Rey look up at Rax, "How does your gene work?"

"Energy conversion. I can use it to make myself taller, stronger, with the right energy. But nonetheless, its still using my gene. I can only maintain my genes for about a week to a month without rest. I learn to form other kind of energy, like light and heat. I don't like using my genes as it reminds me of some of the lab experiments. But I had to survive in the streets."

"Now that you have your bro and I, you don't have to worry about safety."

"So, you are like my second bro?"

"You can think of that." Rax smiled, remembering his own little sister, "I once had a sister around your age. Her gene is the opposite of me. She uses light, she can heal. I guess I don't like to use my gene is because it reminds me of her. How about this, let's not use our genes unless is important."

"Mah. That's just lame. I need to learn to get over my trauma."

"Yo Rax, care to help me move alittle? I don't the muscle for the job." They heard Rex shout.

"Alright." Rax repiled, "Talk to ya later." He smiled, as she nodded.
