11 Chapter 10

The next few days were a lot of planning, the game plan was pretty simple. Walk in powers blazing. Ryder and Axel helped us a lot by teaching us all the ins and outs of the city. We learned that their family actually lived in the inner city so they knew every little crevasse to hide in and every drain that led to the ocean. Liam and Kathy taught Sarah and Sage how to fight. Liam taught how to throw good punches and Kathy taught them dodging. I had used stone to replace the wooden cross necklaces. Everyone who lived in the house had a stone cross necklace, including the missing friends. Catalina was the only one who sported a wooden one, she wore Carter's old necklace like it was the metal of honor.

How did I help you may be asking. Well I spent most of my time perfecting my own powers, something Ryder mentioned due to my emotions controlling my powers instead of me. But to be perfectly honest, I spent most of that time in the girls bedroom crying. There were 3 bedrooms upstairs, one would be Kathy's, Hannah's, Paige's Madelyn's, and mine; it was the master bedroom. One would be Carter's, Liam's, and Nathan's. And the onther one was Sage and Sarah's. Ryder and Axel insisted on sleeping on the sectional couch in the living room. They insisted that it was comfy but I think they were just trying to be nice. When this is all over, I'll add a bedroom upstairs for them.

They had insisted that the whole teenage crew from the island to sleep in the cabin since nobody else knew about the plans. I insisted that Hannah stay with us since she didnt know anyone else. Clyde had been missing since Valerie came, he honestly probably went with them willingly.

We kept tabs on everyone in camp, making sure that nobody else disappeared. It had been exactly a week since Carter, Nathan, Madelyn, and Paige went missing. I missed them, and I worried about if they were even still alive. We'd find out soon enough.

It had been exactly a week when we saw Madelyn trudging tiredly back into camp. She was bleeding excessively from almost every pore on her body. She was helping Carter walk but at this point she was pretty much dragging him. She collapsed into Liam's arms, and I caught Carter from hitting the ground.

"I escaped," she whined out before we could ask any questions. We quickly pulled them into the nearest house so nobody would see their conditions.

"What happened? Where's everyone else?" Liam asked.

"Carla," she paused to cough hoarsely, "I passed them on the way out. I was only able to save Carter."

I had sat down on the floor keeping Carter's head levitated in my lap to open his lungs open. His condition was way worse than Madelyn's. He was bleeding the same way Madelyn was. Carter was also having trouble breathing, even with angling him so he can breathe better he was still struggling to inhale even the slightest bit of air.

He's not allowed to die, not like this, and definitely not now. His gray tshirt was soaked in a dark red in the center. I was frozen, seeing him like this, knowing he was probably going to die, made me want to take his place. I studied Carters face, this can't be the last time I study his emotions. He was groaning in pain and his eyes were shut. I managed to break out a few words as I sat there is disbelief that this was actually happening, "You're- "

"Dont say it Carla," Carter hoarsely said as he slowly opened his eyes to look at me, "Dont you dare say it."

I wiped the tears away and continued, "You're gonna be okay Carter."

He was wincing in pain with every word. "Until," Carter paused to let out a groan of pain, "Until the end right?"

"Carter you're not going to die, not now, not like this, you're not going to die," I argued while tears ran down my face and onto his arm. He slowly lifted his arm and gently wiped the tears off my cheek before he put his arm back down.

"Carla," Carter softly and painfully said. His voice was still hoarse and the movement had caused him more pain, "Carla, stop, we both know this is the end."

"No, it cant be, I refuse to let it Carter," I fought as tears were now pouring out of my eyes. I slowly sat to the ground, and held Carter in my arms, "I can't loose you Carter, we need you, I, I need you."

"We both knew this was going to happen," Carter softly cried.

"Carter, I love you too much to loose you. This can't how your story ends, this isn't how you're supposed to die," I cried. At this point my tears had soaked his shoulder.

"This IS how my story ends," Carter hoarsely cried back as his body got heavier and then went limp.
