7 Chapter 7: 7 Years Later (1)

Life in Haven and Mistral was nothing much. What happened to me would only be summarized into one word: Grind. Every day, I did my Daily Quests and honed the skills of my days there. Nothing else can be said there but I figured I'd say what I did anyway.

After my introduction to the Headmaster, I was given a place. An apartment in the Headmaster's name until I can afford my own apartment.

Settling in was fast as I didn't have on me other than the clothes on my back.

Team VIHM did host a housewarming party though and received some nice gifts from them.

Among them was an earring in the shape of a star. How nice.

Soon after, Lionheart enrolled me in a school for young orphans who wish to become Huntresses.

And here I thought I was the odd one in a normal school. I guess that's on me for thinking this world is anything but normal. Classes were what I would expect from kindergarten and Grade school. The courses cover basic knowledge one needs to live like math, English, and etc.

One kid asked why we aren't learning how to fight and the teacher basically said we're still too young and haven't unlocked Aura.

Aura. A brief explanation given is that it is our shield and weapon. Aura can be used to enhance ourselves to super-human levels and give us a power that mirrors our souls.

I know what Aura means, I even have it myself. Technically, Haki is called 'Spiritual Energy.' The description from the [System] said so itself.

But I'm not saying no to another power. And the random superpower is a nice bonus in itself.

The teacher said that a Semblance is often a reflection of the soul. Some attack, some defend, some support, and some are unconventional.

He mentioned meeting a Huntsman who can activate his Semblance by praying to the Brother Gods.

Anyway, I continued to take classes and do my daily quests in the days I spent in Mistral. I didn't do much of anything else apart from shopping and cooking.

What was odd was when I first started cooking. Back in my old life, I cooked for myself every day since I had to wake up early for morning classes and did pretty well myself.

And yet when I first tried it myself, my kitchen almost burned. I got it put out and had to apologize to Lionheart many times.

I swore to perfect this skill with every break I had. My pride as a chef would not relent and to serve as punishment, I would also learn how to bake. Each day, my skill rises and my results will soon turn those who eat it, to orgasm. That's right, with the [System], I will make food so good it will be on the same level as [Shokugeki no Soma]. Mark my words, the day will come.

With my hobby in place, life just became monotonous. Sleep, grind, study, grind, eat, grind, sleep. Nothing had too much impact during my stay here.

Well, one did have an impact on my life. And that was the [Technopathy] perk.

[Technopathy: Machine Whisperer]

[A mix of metal and lightning, giving birth to machines. You can now 'hear' and even 'heal' machines near you.]

In the show [Generator Rex], Rex has the ability to 'communicate' with machines. Well, not really but more like hear them. I know because it happened to me back at Sill Village when I repaired that water wheel.

In the show, Rex had to touch the machine itself to hear it but my [Haki] allowed me to hear them from afar without touching them.

Now you can imagine what it's like to hear voices from electronics near me and having to ignore them.

Fixing Sill Village was the right thing to do however I am not gonna fix each and every problem the voices are telling me to. If I told them it, I would definitely go to an asylum for it. I would look apart since I can hear voices in my head anyway.

I say that but there really are problems I need to address since they might negatively impact me. Like a broken pipe connected to the water pump, a fuse box about to expire, or something.

Any adult would not trust what I had to say but a couple of words with Lionheart and the issue is solved. He knew about my perk since I did display it back at the village and I have been Mistral's unofficial electrician ever since.

Heh, if I wasn't gonna be a Huntress then maybe a utility janitor would be a good job. The pay is good and I do good things as well.

Anyway, I can now filter through what I hear and only allow keywords to be heard. Such as 'danger', 'help', 'dying', 'help', and much more. Honestly, the amount of gadgets saying they need a recharge or clean-up is terrifyingly high. My guess? A lot of people have Scrolls.

A cool thing did happen when I was playing with my [Technopathy] perk. I accidentally broke my Scroll and used it to repair it. Not only is it good as new, but the thing even got upgraded.

A Scroll is typically a small device that can be split into a phone or tablet-sized panel. What I hold is akin to a remote that transforms into a hologram. Like an actual sci-fi holo-gram that I can interact with in my mind.

Yeah, my Scroll can take orders from my mind and display it to my retina so that it appears for me and no one else. It's like my Scroll is connected to my brain via Bluetooth.

I kept this kind of technology only to myself, mainly so that I don't deal with the crazy amount of people who also want this kind of upgrade. And from what I can glean on the internet, Atlas would too.

One of the 4 kingdoms that are situated near Mantle and the hardest-to-reach kingdom in Remnant. The Kingdom of Atlas is Remnant's science/research division that handles cutting-edge technology, superior teaching programs, and the greatest military might in the world.

I only know 2 people from that place; Headmaster of the Atlas Academy and General of the Atlas Fleet, James Ironwood. And the little android girl who was a ball of sunshine to those who met her, Penny Polendina.

When I first saw Ironwood in the show, he was strict, hard, and stubborn. Often using frontal attacks to wipe out the enemies absolutely. He struck me as one who would cling to his ideals and stick by them, no matter what. The tension between him and Ozpin was like the eldest child butting heads with the head of the house.

Penny on the other hand. She's very joyful, always smiling and carrying herself with a chipper attitude. I liked her as a character, always smiling no matter what. A ray of hope in this bleak world.

But still, I'd prefer not to get in Atlas' view. If what anime and TV shows taught me is true, I'd steer clear of them.

So, 3 years passed by when I started my first combat school.
