11 Sack of King's Landing (1/2)

Qarlton Chelsted was on a ship going back to King's Landing. There was a fleet coming with him. They were carrying the first batch of launchers. He was very satisfied with the performance of the launcher. At first, he was hoping to escape from the war by coming here but now, he wanted to quickly go back King's Landing. With this new weapon, it was possible to change everything.

Before embarking on their voyage, Qarlton heard from the king's spies that Prince Rheager and the traitor Robert Baratheon were nearing each other and it was possible for them to fight in the Riverlands. Although he was a supporter of the current king, he did not want to see Prince Rheager defeated, after all, he was the crown prince of House Targaryen and heir to the Iron Throne.

Unknown to Qarlton, there was a special guest in one of the cargo ships…

283 AC, Outside of King's Landing…

A middle-aged man was standing outside of King's Landing. He was a tall, slender, broad-shouldered and bald man. He has green eyes flecked with gold. He was wearing deep crimson armour highlighted with gold, there was also a cloth of gold cape on him. He was Tywin Lannister.

Tywin was an ambitious, intelligent and ruthless man. He did not take slights to his house gently. Although his house's words were "Hear Me Roar!", he took pride in another one, "A Lannister always pays his debts."

King Aerys wronged him many times. First, when he offered his daughter to the crown prince, he was told that it was beneath the royal house to marry someone lower than them. He thought they were going to marry the prince to his sibling, once a girl born in the royal house. However, it did not happen like that. A wretched Dornish girl took what should have been his daughter's. The king married his son, the crown prince to someone from house Martell.

After this slight, the king raised Jaime, his fifteen years old son, to the Kingsguard in the tourney of Harrenhal. He robbed him of his prized heir; he was left with a dwarf monster as his heir. So, he resigned his position on some thin pretext and returned to his home, Casterly Rock.

And now, Prince Rheagar was defeated at the Battle of the Trident and allied forces were marching towards the capital. He needed to secure his house's position so he sent word to his spy in King's Landing to convince the king that he was coming to aid him.

Today, Tywin was standing outside of King's Landing with a force of twelve thousand men from the Westerlands. He claimed his loyalty was with Aerys and requested entrance into the city. However, he was denied entry and was requested to defend the city from outside of the walls. And this was said by the Hand of the King, Qarlton Chelsted. He was surprised to see him. Everyone in Westeros was thinking that the king burnt his supporter Qarlton but he realized that he was mistaken. He was standing on the walls with a stern face and there were weird machines lined up on the walls.

Tywin didn't support neither side in the war so either he was going to defend the city from outside the walls and die with his forces or he was going to get into the city quickly and prove his 'loyalty'. The latter was the only possible choice for him, he needed to devise a plan to enter the city.

After three hours later, Tywin came out of his tent with twenty men and went forward. He looked up to the wall where Lord Chelsted stood and shouted, "Lord Chelsted, I have grave news that can only be heard by the king."

Qarlton Chelsted looked at him suspiciously and turned around to one of the officers and told something. Then, he turned around and looked at the western lord, "You can come in but you're only permitted to take the men beside you. You will be escorted to the Red Keep."

Tywin looked around to faces of his men. All of them nodded their head and went to the gates with their lord.

Meanwhile on the King's Landing's Walls…

Qarlton Chelsted did not know what to do. When he arrived to King's Landing, it was all chaos. He was told that Prince Rheagar died in the battle, Tywin Lannister marching towards the capital to aid king and Prince Rheagar's wife and children kept as hostages in the Red Keep. Immediately, he requested to see the king. Luckily, the king liked his new toys and respected his advice to not accept Tywin Lannister and his forces inside to city. He knew that Grandmaester Pycelle was the spy of Lannisters but despite telling this to the king, he was rebuked for not knowing his place. He did not know how but Grandmaester Pycelle had some control over the king's decisions.

And now, he was on the walls watching the twelve thousand men from the westerlands. He gave advice to the king to not take Tywin Lannister and his forces inside to city but now, he himself was taking them inside.

He wished that there were more men on the walls but the king decided to station more men to the Red Keep. More than half of the garrison was on the Red Keep. So, the man on the wall was thinly lined out and he had to send three men for every new machine to operate theme. Luckily, new machines were strong and were enough to take thirty men man down only in one shot.

Qarlton saw Tywin enter from the gates with twenty men. He saw that Tywin stopped and started to talk about something with his man. Tywin pointed the gatehouse on the wall.

Qarlton frowned and turned to the man beside him, "Go to the gatehouse and take some men with you, quick!"

"Yes, Mi'lord!" The man started to run but an arrow pierced his head.

Qarlton was shocked and, immediately, he turned his head and looked towards Tywin Lannister. He saw one of his men holding a bow and knocking an arrow to it. The other men of Tywin were running towards the wall and advancing towards the gatehouse.

Qarlton knew that the gate was going to fall and with it himself. He was a loyal man to the cause. He also knew that if he doesn't do anything now then the King's Landing was going to fall in hours. So he turned towards his soldiers and shouted, "Men of King's Landing, Lannister dogs has betrayed our king! If they come in they will murder our people, slaughter our children, rape our woman and burn our houses! Will you let this happen! Will you let these dogs defile our city!!?"

All the men on the wall looked toward their lord with faces full of fury, """Nooo!!"""

Qarlton looked at his men and shouted, "Then, show them the king's wrath! Use the king's weapon and show these Lannister dogs the meaning of DEATH!!!"

Qarlton looked around, there were men screaming and shouting. They were aiming the new weapons towards the Lannister soldiers outside of walls. Suddenly, thunderous sounds heard on the wall. They were coming from the machines. All of them were fired at the same time.

There was carnage outside of the wall. Soldiers wearing red and yellow were falling ground one by one. They did not know what happened, the only thing they heard was deafening sounds from the wall. When they looked around, they saw their friends and other soldiers on the ground full of arrows. Nearly one thousand men died in seconds. It was devastating.

Qarlton looked outside and saw the massacre. Previously, he saw the effectiveness of the launchers but now, he truly witnessed their power...
