33 Chapter 33
"Do you know how strong every person in the castle is ?"
Sam asked, he wanted to finish this interrogation fast and start heading towards the teleport station. The sooner it was destroyed, the less victims there would be in this war.
"Only the captain of the squad reached grade three, the rest are all grade one or two."
"Do you know where the teleport station is ?"
As soon as Sam asked this fatal question the man's face went pale as if drained from all the blood.
"I swear I don't know ! Please don't hurt me ! We came in vehicles with our eyes banded and only the driver who was the captain could see !"
The man became frantic and tried his best to explain to Sam, he looked extremely afraid of pain which made Sam wonder if this man was really a soldier. Being afraid of pain was normal, Sam himself wasn't an exception and he would avoid pain if possible but this man was too much.
'What a wimp...'
"How many entrances are there to the castle ?"
The man relaxed when Sam changed the subject and unconsciously answered his question, he was feeling so pressured that he felt like he might faint anytime.
"There is one big entrance door, you can also climb from behind but there are soldiers patrolling that area."
Now Sam was convinced that they hadn't discovered the hidden entrances yet, they had probably found the castle on a fluke and decided to hide inside it, if they had even checked it's history on the Uninet they would find the informations about the hidden entrances pretty easily.
'I got all my answers, time to do it.'
Sam thought and pulled out his dagger from it's leather sheath, he knew what he had to do but he felt like it was extremely hard. Earlier he had forced himself to do it because of the extreme situation, if he didn't do it in a blink one of the guys might have screamed and alerted their allies, now however the situation was more relaxed which made him hesitate.
Sid who was looking at Sam understood what he was going through, he walked towards him and whispered:
"You want me to do it?"
Sam smiled and shook his head, he would need to kill more people in the future, not only because he was enlisted in the army but also because of his personal plans so he needed to use this opportunity to train himself. He wasn't planning to become a killing machine but at least he needed to be used to it enough to not hesitate at the most important moment.
Suddenly his eyes became sharp and the man's head wasn't sitting on his shoulders anymore but rolling on the ground, Hild growled one last time but couldn't muster any words before he stopped breathing forever.
"Alright let's go, I got enough informations about the enemy."
Sam stood up and said to Sid who was looking at him approvingly:
'Sam isn't disappointing at all as a sergeant.'
At the moment only Ella knew about him wanting to refuse the promotion and even if she told them most people wouldn't believe her so she didn't tell anyone and was waiting for Sam to say it himself.

Soon the group of five were gathered at the entrance of the cave, Sarah and Ella who had been too far away to see anything peeled inside and they saw the body that didn't have a head anymore lying there. They looked at Sam who was calmly sharing the information he got and couldn't help but feel admiration, they probably wouldn't be able to do it that cleanly, killing in the heat of the moment and killing like he did now after interrogation were two completely different worlds.
"These are the informations I got, any questions ?"
Sam asked, he looked at them one by one and only Edward raised his hand.
"Is it possible that he lied ?"
"Yes, I'm not an expert at interrogation so I could have been misled. We are still going with the original plan though, just be more careful and more responsive, if anything unexpected happen then ask for help right away and don't wait until it's too late, in this operation communication is key."

After the small briefing the team walked back in the forest and kept looking for the hollow tree, when they passed by the first man's body that was lying in the darkness inside a bush Sam looked at it for a second and kept looking for his target, he already knew that he was going to have nightmares in the days to come.
Killing was never easy for anyone and it wasn't for Sam either but the situation had kind of forced him to do so and even though he was grossed out by this feeling he was still quite proud of how decisive he had been, before today he was scared that he might cower at the last moment but know he proved himself that he could do it.
After awhile he heard a small whistling sound and looked to his right where it was coming from, on his left were Ella and Edward and one his right were Sarah and Sid, he whistled too to transmit the information to the other two in case they didn't hear it and walked towards where Sarah was, Sid was already next to her and both of them had a slight smile on their faces.
"You found it ?"
Without answering him Sarah pulled aside a small fake bush from next to a tree and revealed a staircase that led towards deep inside the ground.
"Great job."
Soon Ella and Edward also joined them and they went down the stairs one by one, the corridor was pretty narrow so only one person could go down at a time, although Ella was the only grade three evolver in the group she was extremely focused on her mastery of the bow and arrow so she was pretty weak in close combat, this made Sam decide to send Sarah first. He believed Edward was physically stronger than Sarah but he wasn't experienced enough so his choice fell on Sarah, next he would go down. He believed he was the best at handling an unexpected situation and he might be the best one to save Sarah if she fell into a trap. He would be followed by Ella, then Sid and finally Edward was designated as read guard.
Slowly they started going down one behind another while making the less possible noise, soon they reached a place that looked like sewers, a putrid smell permeated the air and made it hard to breath but at least the place looked empty from enemies.
