Boom!! Boom!! Boom!!! That instant, the few remaining Gauss Cannons on High Ground Z3 were all locked onto the behemoth, and high-explosive shells exploded on the behemoth one after another.

Yet, the behemoth seemed to have unimaginable defensive power, and even though it was subjected to a concentrated barrage, it did not suffer any fatal damages!

Ddum, ddum, ddum... As the sound of colossal footsteps got closer and closer to High Ground Z3, so did the monsters. They were now less than two kilometers away from High Ground Z3.

"Radioman, get me some air support!" Colonel James' forehead was drenched in sweat.

"Yes, Sir!" The signaller immediately began to execute his order.

"This is the 106th Mechanized Infantry Division on High Ground Z3. There is an unstoppable enemy before us. We need air support!" the radioman shouted into the microphone.

"This is Bomb Squadron D2. Air support request received. Support incoming!" Exciting news came from the radio.

A moment later, with a piercing boom, two carrier-based aircraft squadrons approached from afar. One of the fighter squadrons immediately moved into a defensive formation as they guarded the bomb squadron that approached the behemoth.

Bang! Right then, the behemoth suddenly turned around. As it raised its hips, it spewed black mist into the sky!

The black mist was bizarre, and even the shock wave generated by the violent explosions across the battlefield could not dissipate it. As the black fog spread, it quickly shrouded the behemoth in darkness and created a powerful electromagnetic interference, preventing the bomb squadron in the air from locking on to it!

"This is Bomb Squadron D2. We have lost target lock-on. Support operation aborted!" The voice on the radio rang out again. Those high and mighty pilots would definitely not venture into the thick black mist just to rescue some mechanized soldiers.

"Damn it!" James was so pissed that he smacked the fortification works next to him. If air support was aborted, the entire mechanized infantry division would be a goner once the behemoth arrived!

"Sir! I'll take a team to lock its position down!" At that moment, Ralph suddenly stood up.

"All right. The fate of the entire division is in your 2nd Company's hands!" James immediately nodded. Rushing out of the fortifications now meant certain death. The mechanized infantry were only able to resist the bug's attacks because of the fortification works.

However, to provide coordinates for the bombers, someone must leave the fortifications, venture into the black mist, and use the laser designator to guide the bombers in the air.

The bomb squadron was about to abort the operation, and as the divisional commander, James was worried. So, when Ralph actually took the initiative to volunteer for the suicide mission, he of course would not refuse it. While Ralph and the 2nd Company may be wiped out, but compared to losing an entire division, these sacrifices were necessary.

There was a saying that mercy was incompatible with command. As a frontline commander, James knew when to make what sort of choices.

"Second Company, with me!" Ralph waved his hand as he led the soldiers of the Second Company and rushed out.

"Damn it!" Qin Hao cursed inwardly. Despite being a mess cook, as a soldier of the 2nd Company, he had to execute the orders. So, he turned around and offloaded the food on his back. Then, he took an electromagnetic rifle beside him as he followed the company.

Tat tat tat... As soon as they left the fortification works, Qin Hao and the rest of the company ran into the insect swarm. A large number of giant beetles restricted their movements. Not long after Ralph led the 2nd Company out on the field, they were pushed right back.

"Damn it! We can't get out at all!" Ralph slammed his fist into the dirt wall of the fortification works. If they could not successfully guide the bombers, the 106th Division would perish right there today.

"Screw that! Brothers, we need to get over there even if we die doing it!" Ralph shouted furiously as he led the company out again.

Tat tat tat...

"Arrghh!!"

"Save me... Help!! Arrrhhhh...."

A desperate charge meant inevitable casualties. The moment Ralph led the 2nd Company a little more than a hundred meters out, four or five soldiers fell. Seeing the large swarm of giant beetles, Ralph's mind went blank, and he did not know whether he could complete the mission.

Nevertheless, Ralph could no longer be bothered. Only by charging forward did he have a chance to complete the mission.

"Arghh! Boss, save me..." A mess cook beside Qin Hao was dragged away by a giant beetle that had appeared out of nowhere. He screamed in terror but no one could save him at that moment. Even Qin Hao was powerless.

Tat tat tat tat... Qin Hao's electromagnetic rifle never stopped firing. He could no longer remember how many bugs had fallen by his rifle, but his comrades around him were decreasing in number. At that point, they had barely reached the edge of the black mist, and that made Qin Hao lose confidence in completing the mission.

"Watch out, guys. We are entering the black mist!" Ralph bellowed as he turned on the lighting equipment on his helmet. However, the overhead lights were not effective in the black mist and could only illuminate about five to ten meters ahead of them.

The limited field of vision made the survival of the 2nd Company's soldiers even more perilous. Everyone tensed up, and no one knew if a giant beetle would suddenly burst out of the black mist and end their lives.

Hisss...

Qin Hao had no idea why the itch on his shoulder got worse after he entered the fog. The sharp itch made him want to tear off his robotic arm and scratch the wound where his arm was severed.

Even so, Qin Hao's reason was still intact. If he tore off the arm now, the bugs would never give him a chance to reinstall it. Then, Qin Ruo might not even be able to hold up his electromagnetic rifle with one arm. If that happened, his chances of survival in the black mist would basically be close to zero.

Enduring the discomfort in his shoulder by sheer will, Qin Hao's senses became extremely keen due to the painful torture. In fact, to put it bluntly, Qin Hao had gotten somewhat neurotic due to the itchiness, so he could even sense the tiniest of movements around him.

Krieeekk, krieekkkk...

Right then, Qin Hao's ears twitched as he heard a faint noise to his side. Normally, that would not be something worthy of attention on a noisy battlefield, yet the slightly-neurotic Qin Hao had clearly noticed it.

"Move!!!" Qin Hao suddenly pushed Ralph away, and the ground that Ralph was standing on a moment earlier cracked open as a giant beetle rushed out of it. If Qin Hao had not pushed Ralph away, the beetle's razor-sharp forearm would have pierced the center of Ralph's back.

Unfortunately, although Ralph managed to avoid death this time, the soldier next to him was brutally killed. Seeing that it had failed to kill Ralph, a strong human, it swept its forearm and cut another mechanized soldier into two!
