Göbekli Tepe [1]

South-eastern Anatolia Region, Turkey.

"One of the oldest archaeological sites in the world, Göbekli Tepe is believed to be the site of the world's oldest temple. The site was first discovered in 1963 but the archaeologists were uninterested in Göbekli Tepe because they thought it was just an abandoned medieval cemetery.

However, German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt rediscovered the site in 1994 and knew right away that the site was something more. Schmidt continued to lead the excavation team until his death in 2014 and he believed that Göbekli Tepe must have been a very early Neolithic temple. In 2018, Göbekli Tepe was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site."

An elderly man in his 60s sporting a yellow fedora hat and gold-rimmed glasses introduced the site to a group of tourists largely consisting of young men and women who were following him as they stood on the scaffolding over the excavation site.

"It's a temple of an ancient god and the process of excavation is very slow due to lack of funding but it will increase soon due to the rise of popularity of this site.

The site is divided into three levels that represent its use in different time periods that span to about 2000 years"

He then pointed down towards a 'T' shaped limestone pillar with a strange carving on it and continued, "Geophysical surveys indicate that there are 16 circular structures supported by these pillars, enclosing up to eight each, amounting to nearly 200 pillars in all."

"So Prof. James Bush, is this site similar to an altar for sacrifice or something like that?" a young chubby caucasian man with blond hair and blue eyes from the group asked while the majority of the group was busy taking photographs.

"Well it can be theorized with the evidence we have excavated so far that this place was constructed to act as an altar but there is much more to excavate that we cannot be sure of it" the old man replied after thinking for some time.

"We will look at the important pieces we excavated in the museum," Prof. James said and lead the group down the scaffolding towards the periphery of the archaeological site where a glass building that was constructed not long ago.

The chubby man stared at the carvings of animals on the pillars which looked more realistic than modern photographs of animals but he soon realized that he was left behind by the group.

Just as he thought of rushing towards the rest of the group he lost his footing and fell towards the ground, he tried to hold the handrail to stop his fall but it did nothing in order to stop his fall as his weight was more than what an old handrail could bear, thus he fell more than 40 feet down along with part of the handrail.

Boom!!

The sound attracted the attention of the group and some of them started shouting realizing what happened.

"Someone fell down! HELP"

"Help! He fell….

….

….

Prof. James rushed below towards the chubby man while shouting "CALL AN AMBULANCE AND ENTER THE EXCAVATION ZONE WITH CAUTION or the pillars can collapse on us."

He then pointed towards a black hunk tourist "Inform the guards."

But before Prof. James could reach the place where the chubby man fell he heard a scream "KAEL, OH MY GOD!"

When he reached the location there were already few members of the group there as his old age didn't allow him to run at the same speed as the youngsters and one of the men was mumbling something, apparently, he was the one who screamed.

"Do not move him."

After seeing how the broken bones tore out the body of the chubby man he understood that moving him would cause more damage to the victim thus his eyes fell upon the man who was mumbling.

"Do you know him?" Prof. James asked him.

"Ah! He… he is Kael Strider, my friend." the man replied after calming down.

"Do you have a way to contact his family? If you have a way please contact them and tell them to come here as fast as possible" He asked again.

"Yes I know his father's contact number but both of us live in America, so it will take time"

"So why are you wasting time on mumbling, contact him right now" Prof. James continued, "And where is the ambulance?"

A guard who just reached them replied "Ambulance will be here in 10 minutes sir"

**********

While the group was panicking, the blood that flowed from the plump body of Kael Strider was greedily absorbed by the ground and started to form obscure crimson patterns on the ancient temple floor below everyone's feet.

Air started to gain speed and slowly a vortex started to form above the archeological site with Kael Strider as its center but the most peculiar thing wasn't the vortex but the fact that the people on the site were unable to see the vortex on even feel the wind.

The vortex became large enough to cover a small city in minutes and its size kept on increasing and it only slowed just before the siren of an ambulance could be heard.

The crimson patterns that now cover the whole ancient site but were invisible to the naked eye started to move towards unconscious Kael and entered his body without any visible effect.

Minutes after the last pattern entered Kael, a team of paramedics reached him.

**********

At the same time as the vortex started to form a middle-aged man who was enjoying his coffee in a Cafe in the United Kingdom when he was disturbed by his phone.

Ding! – Ding! – Dang! – Ding! – Ding! – Dang!

"Fu*k, this old man can't enjoy a cup of coffee even on his vacation" he cursed as picked up the phone.

"Sir, the council has detected an ancient inheritance being activated in Turkey and it is your turn to bring the inheritor into the circle and help with the transition" an emotionless mechanical voice that came from the other end.

"Can't I go after I enjoy my vacation?" He asked.

"Sir, do you understand what will happen if we don't reach the inheritor first?" the voice asked the question in place of the answer.

"Okay, I will go" he then gulped the contents of the cup in one go and rushed out.
