5 Adventurer

Alex read the entire two books and studied them carefully. Sometimes, he didn't understand what the words meant but he learned them after re-reading the books a few times. For him, who didn't have a single teacher on Earth, re-reading was very important to learn something he couldn't understand in case he didn't have any other sources to check. However, this process took him a lot of time and it was already noon.

'Ah. I didn't realize that the day is almost over?'

*Grumble~*

"I am hungry… Never thought I almost wasted the whole day here…" Alex sighed and rose from his bed.

"I need to leave this place right now. John and Sandra could make the king exile me from the castle, so I am afraid they can convince him to kill me as well. I should move to another place or maybe to another kingdom. If I remember the things they were discussing in the castle, Maria will go to the Holy Kingdom, which means the Acacia Kingdom won't have anyone who knows me. I will go there instead."

He didn't want to die like this. Even if he needed to perish together along with the rest of the four, he just wanted to pay John and Sandra back no matter how long it would take him. At least, he could see that he had a better chance to take his revenge, unlike on Earth when he was already lost against John's status and wealth.

Unfortunately, his body was too weak. So, he decided to level up just a little bit around this city and searched for a way to go to the Acacia Kingdom.

Luckily, he stumbled upon an Adventurer Guild just like what he already expected from a Fantasy World. He entered the building without hesitation and found a hall mostly made of wood, bustling with people.

"First thing first, I should go to the receptionist at this time," Alex muttered to himself as he looked around and found the counters with several people dressed in a particular uniform talking with those scary-looking guys. Sadly, he couldn't see any free receptionists except one guy.

He was a bald and muscular guy, his appearance looked disproportionate because his head was smaller compared to his muscle. Yet, Alex could see the friendly and feminine gestures from this person.

Although he didn't want to approach the guy, he had to do it because the guy seemed to have plenty of time to explain everything to him. Walking forward, he arrived in front of the receptionist and looked at him while gulping down.

"Hello, how can I help you?" Asked the receptionist with a very feminine voice.

Alex twitched his eyebrows. Even though he had expected this kind of response, he couldn't help but want to escape. Still, he held himself back and gathered enough courage to answer politely as if there was nothing weird both from his appearances and way of talking. "Hello. I'm new here. Can I register as an adventurer?"

"Sure. Do you bring your status card?" The muscular man nodded with a smile.

"Yes. What do you need it for?" Alex asked while handing his status card.

"We only need to update your job. If you already have a high-level job, this job will become your secondary job." He took Alex's status card and looked at his status. He was stunned. "Sir… Are you sure you want to become an adventurer with this status?"

"I understand why you are asking me such a question. I have a weak condition from birth, but I'm planning to travel to many places while searching for plants or herbs on the way. My Teacher has taught me how to survive in the forest, so I am confident that I can search for a quest like this in the Adventurer Guild. That's why I came to register." Alex lied with the answer he had prepared earlier.

The muscular man looked at him for a few seconds, hesitating to issue the guild card. But he could only sigh and nod. "I will respect your wish, but I need to remind you once more. Please be careful out there. We won't hold responsibility for anything that has happened outside the guild."

"I know." Alex slightly bowed his head before asking. "That's okay for me. Do you have a map here?"

"Yes. We sell maps into three categories: standard, detailed, and special. The standard contained basic information about villages and cities around the kingdoms. A detailed map looks similar to the standard one but it has a sprinkle of more detail, including the danger zone and safe zone. As for the last one, it's usually only for a certain place, but it's drawn to the exact details."

Alex thought for a moment. He didn't know what he might need in the future with this money, so he was planning to save it. Hence, he decided. "I want the basic one, please."

"It's one silver."

"Here." Alex handed a silver coin to the receptionist.

"This is your map and status card." After receiving the payment, he handed the map along with Alex's status card.

"Alright. Thank you. And one last question, is there any caravan going to Alisia Forest?" Alex glanced at the map and pointed out the closest forest from this place.

"You can find many of them at the west gate. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to find them today since they often set off in the morning. If you are interested in using their service, it will be better if you go there at dawn. Do you have any more questions?"

"No. Thank you very much." Alex was satisfied with the service and thanked him once again.

"I'm just doing my job." He smiled before reminding Alex again. "Please be careful."

Alex nodded with a smile as he turned around and began walking around the city once more to see whether he forgot to buy any other necessities.
