3 Chapter 2: Defying Destiny

"Kael, you look like you're concerned of something. Are you okay?" Luz asked him. "And why did you suddenly asked what's the date today? Are you expecting something?" She added.

"Uhmm... Mom, actually...it's about that strange dream I had earlier." Mikael replied.

"What is that about? I saw you're dripping wet earlier after you wake up. Perhaps...is it a bad dream?" His mom curiously said.

"No, it's not bad. It's terrifying!" He said.

"Why? Is there someone who busted you're not a germophobiac? Or did your ex girlfriend haunted you again in your dream?" His brother Joshua suddenly butted in their conversation while eating.

"No, it's more terrifying than those!" Mikael replied.

"Really? Then what is it? Can you tell it to us?" His mom said while transferring his breakfast in a plate.

"A girl...will die at St. Bernadette College later! She will die at our school cafeteria!" He declared.

The plate in his mom's hands almost slipped from her grip. And Joshua coughed hard as his food was caught in his throat and almost choked from what he heard from his Big Bro.

"What did you just say?!" Both Mikael's mom and brother said in unison. "How?!" They we're again synchronized in asking him, like a choral singing their most beautiful piece.

"Do you remember Karl? Karl Montecido?!" Now, it's Mikael's turn to ask a question.

"Karl Montecido... the one who got you in trouble in highschool? Joshua said. "Oh, you're correct! He's the one who accused your brother for stealing test questionnaires in the past." Their mom added.

"He is with a girl that time. I cannot identify the girl's face clearly because I was a bit far from them." Mikael started to detail his dream to Luz and Joshua. "You were even in the dream Josh, you were eating lunch with me that time." He continues. "The girl who died, whom I don't know either, suddenly fell down while walking past them, she was holding the tray of her food that time so obviously, she accidentally threw her food in the air and the food finds it path towards the girl who's with Karl." He added.

"What happend after that?" His brother asks.

"Both Karl and the girl he's with got furious, they scolded the girl for what she'd done." He replied. "Whats worse is, Karl grabbed one of their steak knives and played it like a dagger, scaring the girl to her death. I tried to stop him from doing it but he even said that she must die and those words seems like to reach God's ears. The glass window, where the girl leans after backing down from the fear of Karl, suddenly broken and she fell to the quadrangle." He finally finished telling the whole dream.

"Are you serious? So... it just means that Karl really killed the girl?" Luz said.

"It seems like it. It just proves that people are like forest, their emotions is like a forest fire, and our words could act like a strong gust of air that would let the fire broaden it's reach and widen it's damage in the forest or it could also be a strong rainfall to control  it and lessen the chaos it could bring." Mikael replied.

July 14, 2024 (11:00am)

After the class, Mikael immediately dashed to the school cafeteria because it's lunchtime now he didn't wait for his brother and got there up himself. He couldn't control the sense of responsibility of him towards the girl. He got up there not because he is starving, it's because he already made up his mind. He will save the girl in his dream!

Since he remembered every detail, he knew where will the accident happen, and what will actually happen so he seated where he think he could execute his plan well.

30 minutes had already passed but the girl he was looking for, is still not there.

"Why is she not here? Did the future changed because I changed one little detail? Or maybe she did not attend class today?" Mikael questioned himself. "No. 15 minutes more and it will happen already, I'm sure she will be here no matter what." He said to himself to gather his senses back and to focus on what brought him here in the first place.

He took a glimpse to his wrist watch and its hands says that it is already 11:40 am. All the other students, including Karl, his girl, and their entourage, are starting to occupy seats that for them is random, but it is not for one person in this room named Mikael Lavarias.

Shortly, he now saw the girl in his dreams ordering food and it's servewares are the same as he saw. So it just really gave proof that the accident will really happen. Destiny already wrote the script for this scene and all that is left is for the actors to perform it.

It's now 11:45 and the set is all ready. The girl in Mikael's dream is searching for a place to sit and enjoy her food. And now, Mikael saw what really caused the accident. The girlfriend of Karl and Karl himself commanded one from their gang to trip the girl in his dream by saying: "Remember that weird girl sis? Let's pull a prank for her, extend your feet a little longer sis!" His girlfriend said. "This is going to be hilarious!" Karl added.

After hearing that, Mikael started to execute his plan. He dropped the banana peel he is holding in his hand, stood up like he was looking for someone and secretly kicked it to where the girl in his dream will walk. He was successful setting it up before the girl actually reach them. He remained standing up until the girl is about to walk past the peel and then...

He put his right arm around the girl's waist and pulled her close to him.

"HEY! What do you think you are doing?!" Karl's girlfriend screamed after realizing that Mikael just ruined her plan. "Hey Mik-Mik! I thought you are a germophobiac? Why are you hugging that girl now?!" Karl questions him.

That question led to an uproar of murmurs around the whole cafeteria. "He lied to us?", "He doesn't have any phobias?", "What a shame! I thought the top student in our school is a pure one but I guess he also hides something from us!" These are the statements and allegations that surfaced in Mikael's ears, he lets go of the girl and he firmly said to the crowd:

"Guys, lemme be clear. I did this because there is a banana peel in her way, I just prevented her for slipping. Did I do something wrong?" He picked up the peel and showed it to all. "And for the germophobe issue. We, germophobes are afraid of BARE HUMAN CONTACT and not of human contact in general." He added.

Everybody in the room suddenly became quiet and the uproar of murmurs subsided gradually. And shortly, he heard a soft voice that called his name.

"Mikael." The girl in his dream called his attention.

"Wait, how did you know my name?" He answered.

"The nameplate of the school says your name." The girl said.

"Ah, is that so? Why did you call me?" He curiously asked.

"I'm just wondering...why did you do that?" The girl answered.

"Let's talk about that later but for now, eat up your food first. We can share the table if you want to. The cafeteria looks full so why don't you just eat here with me?" Mikael offered with a genuine smile on his face.

The girl sat down and shared the table with him. And a fulfilled feeling suddenly crept up to Mikael's body, he was overwhelmingly happy that he is seeing this girl still breathing and in a good state and not sad and depressed and after a few moments, covered with blood.

"It's a good thing that your smile can be seen on your face. I'm happy to see that side of you and not you're very sad side, like in my dream which.... really broke my heart. I'm just really relieved that you're okay." Mikael said to himself.
