13 Issue #1

After several weeks of intense training with Emma, Jack had grown into an entirely different person than when he first arrived. His knowledge had grown considerably, his skills had improved immensely, and his aura had completely changed. Jack no longer gave off the feeling of a 'southern, country boy' but was now a genuine nobleman.

He had gained several new abilities over the course of these weeks but had stopped craving them. The abilities he gained from normal animals were nothing compared to what he had gained from killing a single mutant. Jack knew it was better to wait and try for a chance to get real powers instead of unstable abilities that weren't fully his.

That morning, Jack did not do his usual morning training. Instead, he dressed up in his best and walked down to the training room where he waited.

This was the Sunday before the Academy opened. All the students would start moving in over the next two days before classes started on Wednesday. So before everyone came, Jack's new roommates had to arrive.

[I will be there with the rest of the team in 20 minutes. Be ready. You need to earn their respect in a day.] Emma texted him

[Understood. I will be sure to handle the matter properly.]

Emma had given Jack many privileges but had also painted a large target on his back. Not just with the team but also in the entire school.

Jack was the leader of the team, the student council president, and had the freedom to attend or ignore classes if he wanted to without discipline. The only time Jack was required to take part in classes would be during the 3 major exams each semester. Other than that, he had nothing he had to do.

All of this would cause him to earn the resentment of the other students. Most students fought over the position of student council president since they personally chose the rest of the student council and who was allowed to stay in the Excellence Dorm.

As for the other privilege, that was usually reserved for the 3 on track for valedictorian. This meant that most students had to work hard for an entire 3 years prior to earning this privilege. But Jack had come out of nowhere and taken it.

When the other students and teachers arrived the next day, they would all find out the news when they saw people already living in the Excellence Dorm. But Jack was not worried about any of them. Jack was looking forward to a challenge and he was sure that he could successfully navigate through the drama of high school, even if there were a few members of royalty in it.

Soon, the doors to the basement opened. Emma walked in with 6 teens behind her. 3 of them were girls and the other 3 were guys. Jack looked them each over and went over the profiles he had over them all in his head.

Sharon Smith A.K.A. Catseye. She was a feral mutant that could shift between a large cat/panther form, her human form, and a hybrid form. Sharon was the youngest member of the team and was 14 years old. She had a bubbly personality that helped her stand out along with her white hair.

Jennifer Stavros A.K.A. Roulette. The girl had an unusual power. She could fire orbs of good and bad luck at others. The girl was very conniving and couldn't be trusted as far as Jack could throw her. She was also a sadist. Her skill with her power was undeniable though. She came under the recommendation of the Black Queen.

Buford Wilson A.K.A. Beef. He was the original powerhouse of the team. A simple-minded giant with super strength. The main flaw of his power is that Buford did not have the same level of durability as others with his level of strength.

Fabian Marechal-Julbin A.K.A. Bevatron. In Jack's opinion, the most useless and weakest member of the team. Fabian could fire blasts of bio-electricity. Just like Jack already could. His skill with his power was also very weak. How he got invited into the team, Jack was unsure.

The last two were the ones that truly caught Jack's eye. They were recommendations by the Black King himself. Jack figured that since he was able to gain one of the 'King' positions, that meant he could not be taken lightly.

Yukio A.K.A. Tarot. If Jack was to pick the most powerful member, besides himself, this girl would definitely take it. She not only had a form of limited precognition but she could also animate the figures of her personal deck of tarot cards to assist her in battle or just with miscellaneous tasks. She was also the one that Jack trusted the most. Her personality was straightforward and sweet.

Manuel de la Rocha A.K.A. Empath. The last member of the Hellions was the one that Jack trusted the least and would always have his guard up against. Manuel had a similar personality to Jennifer but his powers made him much more dangerous and unstable. From his name alone, one could tell that one of his powers was empathy so he could sense and feel the emotions of those around him.

The more dangerous aspect of him was his second power. He could psionically control one emotion at a time, affecting many targets in the same area during that time or controlling the emotional states of multiple victims one at a time. He could change the amount of control he exerted over his victims, such as a simple emotional push or complete emotionless zombies who bow to his every whim. These powers made him dangerous.

Ever since getting to know Emma, Jack had come to appreciate the woman but also harbored a bit of fear against her. Not her exactly but telepaths. He had seen just how powerful a telepath could be against a room full of people unprepared or untrained. This is why Jack had put in a large amount of effort when it came to constructing his psychic shield and defenses.

Jack looked at all of his new teammates that were quickly approaching. Once they stood in front of him, a smile appeared on Jack's face before he took a step forward and extended his hand.

"Jack Smith. Or Leviathan. Whichever you prefer. I'm going to be your leader."
