English assignment - Chapter 6

I walked into the house, straight towards the kitchen, when I saw Dean and Thomas sitting at the kitchen island. "So, how was your first detention?" Dean asked. "Well, I wasn't the only one there, Alec Garcia was there too. Cigarettes and "Bad Boy" persona was there too which suffocated me, literally and figuratively," I said when we all started to laugh. "Sounds better than my first detention," Thomas said laughing, "I had to clean the entire extra music room." "Mine too, I had to scrape all the gum from the bottom of 4 desks." We all laughed as I sat down, eating the lunch Sam made for us all.

I spent the rest of the day catching up on work and studying for future tests because I couldn't hang out with Roxy. Sunday was pretty much the same, except for the fact that we watched movies together that night. Then came Monday, the day I dreaded most, I convinced myself to text Flynn on what he told me and ask him if it was actually true.

When I woke up, I got ready for school and made my way downstairs for breakfast. I only saw Dean at the table and got curious. "Where's Thomas?" I asked. "He has to go to the doctor; he's worked up a high fever over the night." "Oh, um, I hope that he is gonna be okay." I said. After breakfast Dean, Sam and I got into the car and we drove off to school. On the way, I got out my phone and started texting Flynn.

Hey, is there any way we can meet up again. I want you to explain what you told me.

I sent the message and put my phone back in my pocket. When we arrived at school I excitedly got out and made my way straight to Roxy's locker. I finally got there and immediately started talking. "So, the weirdest thing happened to me on the weekend. I got this note from someone which was attached to my bag on the flight here. The note had a number and a name written on it, so, through curiosity, I called it. He told me to meet him on Friday and when I did, he told me the weirdest thing. He told me he knew my father."

"But hasn't your father passed away?"

"Yes, so of course, I didn't believe him, and I stormed out of there. Then on Saturday during detention, something even weirder happened. Alec Garcia told me to reconsider what that guy told me."

"That's one weird weekend."

"Yeah, definitely."

"So, do you want to hang out with me after school?"

"Yeah, sure. I can't wait," I said as the bell rang for first period and we made our way to our English class. As we entered, Mrs. Brown greeted the class and we all took our seats. She started speaking about an assignment we have to do with a partner. "Each group will be given a scene at random from the famous Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. You will have 1 week to prepare the scene with your partner, and it will be performed on Monday next week."

We all looked at her desperately, hoping to not get the kissing-scene. "The groups will be as follow: Amber and Samantha; Timothy and Rebecca..." she continued on listing names. I kept on listening for my name when it finally came up. "Emily and Liam."

My eyes widened as I looked over to Liam. He flashed a warm smile my way and my face slightly reddened at the fact that I got Liam.

"Okay, now that you have your partner, you can go sit next to them," Mrs. Brown continued. I stood up and I made my way over to his desk. I sat down next to him and we shared a warm smile. "Hey, so I guess we're partners now," I said, chuckling.

"Now, one of each group will come to the front of the class and take a piece of paper out of this bag," she said while holding a bag in her hands, "each one of these papers has a certain scene written on it."

"So, are you going to go, or am I?" I asked Liam.

"I'll go," Liam replied while standing up to go to the front of the class.

I sat there in anticipation, waiting for his turn to take a piece of paper from the bag. After a few minutes of waiting, he got to the front and put his hand in the bag. He took a piece of paper and came back to our desk. When he sat down, he finally unfolded the paper. The scene I hoped that we wouldn't get was written on it. My eyes widened and my face paled as I looked back up at Liam.

"I can work with this," he said teasingly as he smiled my way.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" I asked him.

"As sure as I'll ever be."

"Can each group tell the class which scene they got?" Mrs. Brown asked the class.

She asked the groups, desk by desk, to name the scene they got. When it finally got to us, I gulped and said, "Act One, Scene Four." The whole class was silent as we moved on to the next desk.

"So, do you want to start practicing tomorrow?" he asked me.

"Um, sure, I don't have anything to do tomorrow after school."

I looked over to Roxy's desk to see that she was seated next to Connor Millen, he has been her crush since kindergarten. All I could do was smile to hold back my girlish giggle.

Suddenly, the bell rang for second period and I packed away my books, getting up to go out of the class. Roxy sped up to get to me and I looked at her suspiciously.

"So, you and Liam, huh?" she asked teasingly.

"So, you and Connor huh?" I asked teasingly.

We both laughed as we continued walking to my least favourite class, Biology. As I walked to my seat, Miss Grundy looked at me warily and I tried to avoid her gaze by keeping my head hung low. Suddenly, Miss Grundy started talking.

"I will divide you all into groups of two. You all will have to dissect a frog and after, you will have to name each organ on the paper I am handing out right now." she said as she handed each of us a paper.

"Thegroups will be as follow: Amber and Rebecca; Timothy and Samantha..." MissGrundy started listing names. Until, for the second time today, I had to waitin anticipation for my name to come up. Which, finally, it did, but withsomeone I least expected. "Emily and Alec." Miss Grundy said. My eyeswidened and my face paled even more than before. Next thing I knew, Alec wassitting next to me, once again, not saying anything. The slight scent ofcigarette smoke hung in the air between us. Never had I thought I would be inthe position I am now.
