Family troubles . . .

Still Michael's POV

I walked down the stairs and over to the dark oak wood table where Vincent is putting plates of food on it. By my obversions, tonight we were having mash potatoes, green beans, and turkey. My favorite. Not. Seriously, we eat this crap every week. Well, what can I say? I have a hard-working dad supposedly works his non-existent butt off to PUT this food on this table. So, I really shouldn't be complaining. I sit down at one of the chairs next to Vincent, who is sitting at the end. Sara sits across from me. She smiles at him and says, "Thank you, honey, for this wonderful food you worked so hard for." Vincent just smiles at her and starts eating without saying another word. Sara glances at me and I give a shrug. I grab my fork and stab my turkey. While I smear it into my mashed potatoes, I can almost feel the daggers Vincent's glaring into my head. I cautiously look up then quickly look down. Then, I'm saved by Sara. "So, Michael, how was your day? Did you catch any bad guys?", she says, putting on a fake smile. "It was cool, I guess. I did catch some dude who was a felony. I think he was charged with armed robbery." She gasped and looked at Vincent. "Oh, my! Vincent did you hear that!? He caught a FELONY! That's the first person you caught! Oh, I'm so proud of you!" She gets up and hugs me which seems like forever. "Oh, come on. It's not that big of a deal. I didn't get no metal or nothin." She lets go of me and laughs, "You should of!" As she sits down she says to Vincent, "Vincent, how was your day?" He glares at her then says to me, "Michael, may I talk to you in private?" I flinch a little cause I know when he says "may", something bout to go down. I slowly get up and say, "Y-ya. Sure." I follow Vincent out to the porch with one last glance over my shoulder to Sara. I shut the sliding glass door as Vincent steps outside with me. He crosses his arms and leans against the wall. "So, there is something I haven't told you yet about your mom." I scoff and say, "There's a lot of things you haven't told me. But, please, continue." He thinks for a second, then says, "When your mom had you, she freaked out. For some reason, she got real nervous about raising a kid, so she tried to put you up for adoption. But, me, being the dad and not wanting my own child to be not raised by anyone else but me, I . . . We went our separate ways, me with you, she with some . . . another dude. But, one day, after all these years, she . . . came back." I was so deep in thought, I didn't realize that he stopped talking. When I looked up, he had tears in his eyes. "So, what's her name?", I asked, shoving my hands into my pockets. He wiped his tears away and looked at Sara. She got up from the table and joined us outside. She also had tears in her eyes. I gasped and yelled, "What!?"
