148 Parental Pressure (15)

A movement woke Kyro up. He ignored it for a time, but after it didn't disperse, he opened his eyes a fraction. In the blinding light of the sun, he saw the fox struggling to get free. It was trapped under his arm, held tightly against him.

For a very long moment, Kyro wondered how the fox had ended up in this position once again. He had stopped bothering about the girl sleeping in his bed, but close contact wasn't something he encouraged. Wasn't it?

His head was heavy, and it was more than just the usual lack of sleep. After another glance at the fox, he recalled hazy scenes from yesterday. He had been pissed at the party and drank a bit more than was required. By the end, he was just sitting and glowering at everyone, so Gale called a taxi and kicked him out.

At home, mom dared to ask how it had went. He closed his eyes, reliving the fury that single question had evoked in him. How it had went, ha. The only reason he wasn't tearing her apart was because of who she was.

And then the girl had the audacity to come over and check if he was drunk. It was the icing on the cake, and he caught her to stay by his side and keep him company. At the time, it had seemed like the best way to teach her a lesson, but now that his mind was clear, he could see that she hadn't minded staying by his side in the least.

"You can go," he said, lifting his arm up and rolling on his back. The sun was high in the sky, so he covered his eyes from the light as he lay trying to recall all he'd done yesterday.

Although he'd drunk quite a lot, he hadn't been foolish enough to knock himself out. With effort, he could bring back all he'd done throughout the evening.

As far as he could tell, nothing extraordinary had happened: he walked, he talked, he drank. Most of the evening consisted of these three things with varying degrees of intensity. He was swarmed by rich heiresses all the time, listening to flattery and how he would do well with a woman's touch in his company. A few even tried to set him against Gale, pouring dirt over the poor guy surrounded by young girls who saw him as the perfect prince charming.

At the time, Kyro had just made a few noncommittal comments, not seeing the point in arguing or agreeing, but now he wondered what those people had been trying to achieve. Did they think he didn't know what kind of person Gale was? That he would turn on his partner because of a little slander?

Instead of leaving, the fox came over to bump his hand with its nose. He moved his hand away and saw two dark orbs watching him. This probably meant something, but it was too early in the morning for him to try and figure it out.

"Shoo, go where you want. I want to think."

Next to him, Iris yipped in annoyance and walked away. She wanted to see if he was feeling any better this morning, but he just dismissed her without a word. 'Whatever, if you want to be alone, you can have it.'

Since the living room was behind closed doors, she went to the study and turned on his computer. Typing took time, but it wasn't impossible. She played some currently popular songs and started browsing 9gag.

Before she could even go past ten pictures, heavy footsteps came from the bedroom. Kyro entered the study and lifted her up with a dark expression.

"What do you think you're doing? What if mom decided to bring me breakfast and came in?" He shook her lightly then put back on the desk. "Do you wish to reveal yourself that badly?"

Disoriented, Iris took a couple shaky steps before regaining her balance. Then, she turned around and screamed at him. Who would ever dare to come into his room? After the look he gave his mother yesterday, she was probably going to tiptoe around him for days to come.

Iris' words didn't reach Kyro, and he swiftly turned everything off. "Don't do anything while there are other people around. Understood?"

The idea that he didn't think she wasn't smart enough to know what she could do and what not got on her nerves, but she nodded. If he'd feel better after receiving a confirmation, it wasn't hard for her to say yes to what she was already doing.

Satisfied, Kyro patted her head and asked, "Why did you want to get up so early?"

'Early?' She looked out the window where the sun was at its highest point, then back at Kyro. He followed her gaze and a pained expression appeared on his face.

"I see." He sighed and returned to his room to put some clothes on.

After that, he opened the door to the living room, and Lucy rushed out toward the kitchen. Iris went after him and finished the three crickets left from yesterday.

"You want more?"

She nodded, and Kyro filled up her bowl once more. He also changed the water to a fresh one, and Iris cooed at him in appreciation. If anyone was a good person, then Kryo had to be them. Who else would be this kind to make sure their dependents had breakfast before making some for themselves?

Finishing her food before Kyro had even boiled his coffee, Iris went to the living room and found that his mother was already there. She was sitting quietly, a magazine in her hand. On the table, there was an empty cup.

When Kyro came in, his mother didn't say anything. She just looked at him with complicated emotions in her eyes and that's it.

Then, the doorbell rang. Kyro looked at Iris, and she looked back at him, shaking her head. This couldn't be for her. She hadn't ordered anything. Why would she when she was a fox?

"I'll take it," Kyro said, standing up, and Iris went a few steps behind him. She was interested who would come visit him on the weekend.

The door was then opened, and she raised her eyes to see the person she least wanted to see. This was the evil woman that had wanted to entice Kyo the last time she came here! Iris could swear she'd seen sparks flying between them.

Without hesitation, she rushed to stand in front of Kyro and scream at the woman.
