Chapter 1A Cruel Fate Part 1

The realm of Caladris was devastated centuries ago by a devastating war involving Demons, Elves, and Humans. The two continents, Eastern continent, now dominated by an uneasy partnership between Humans and Elves, flourishes in contrast to the hostile and grim Western continent, ruled by the Demon Empire. Even if a long-standing truce has prevented open warfare, the balance of power is fragile. The strong here ruled over the weak.

The Demons drew their power from the Netherworld, the dark and destructive magic these beings are born with cause massive casualties in the great war. Without the combined efforts of both humans and elves the demon emperor couldn't have been defeated. The Elves are inherently born with great aptitude for magic and combined with the spirit magic they learn, they become a great pain to reckon with. The elves, who have a strong bond with nature, use Spirit Magic to call upon and converse with elemental spirits. Spirit Elders control over complex cultures that reside in their verdant forests and peaceful mountain sanctuaries. Elven magic points out harmony with nature and the elements, and their Spirit Sanctuaries serve as both places of worship and training grounds for young mages. The elves consider the preservation of their magic to be a holy duty necessary to keep the world in balance.

Now the case of Humans are a bit special as Humans are not born with any aptitude for magic, hence they relay on character cards known as Sigil Cards, that gives the user, the powers of the beings on their card, that could rang from common animals to mythical beings that could wreck havoc to the entire world. The ancestors of the humans who fought in the great war had powers of great dragons, angels and other mythical beings.

Every human receive their sigil card when they reach 16 years old. The sigil cards are assigned to humans by ancient priests at an Alter—sacred mechanisms that link them to sigil cards' power. Every card contains the essence of a different creature, from fantastic animals like dragons or phoenixes to everyday creatures like wolves or hawks.Once they possess a card, they can summon the creature's power or essence in battle. Some sigil cards maybe extremely useful in battle while the others may not so, every person is assigned a single sigil card in his entire life and has to live with it whether he or she liked it or no and there are no recorded instances of a double sigil card awakening for a single person.

Power discrimination was common in the eastern continent especially in the human settlement. The people with no combat sigil card were bullied and shunned by the rest of the society. Even after the great war slavery and trafficking of powerless humans and elves took place in the dark.

GlaringError here! As I have already mentioned in my author review I am restating it here since I am getting tons of comments about it, that I am more of a reader myself than a writer, I made this novel in an attempt to capture my fantasy world residing in my mind into words.. Writing is new for me.. The premise of my novel is inspired by many great works that I have loved over the years. And some elements I have in my novel that are slightly similar to them but it's just the skeleton of it, the real meat of the plot is entirely my own cooking. Some of the influence that is more noticeable is from The Runesmith (By Kuropon), The King's Avatar (By Butterfly Blue) and Shadow Slave (By Guiltythree). I have immense respect for these legends and I can only hope to follow in their footsteps. To all those who comment just by judging the name, at least give it a chance before letting your opinions be known. Thank you.
