Chapter 18: Three Stages of the Test
I walked onto the 8th target.
"You can hit the target anytime once you're ready." The Invigilator who is standing beside me said.
I aimed my palm on the target. The immense fire started revolving around my hand, and I focused it all onto my palm and used, "Fire blast."
*Thwack*
The target was blown away. And everyone who saw that had their mouth open. Yep! I overdid it…
"Yo – You can move on to the next stage." Saying that, he gave a paper of proof saying I passed the test.
I took it and started walking to the second stage test location.
After fifteen minutes of a successful attempt to not find the location, I finally arrived. Trust me, this place is huge.
I saw many of them easily past the first stage when I looked around. And again, most of them are teenagers and pre-adult. Yet another knight came in and said,
"Congratulation to those who passed the first stage and welcome to second-stage. As said second stage will be a physical endurance test. All you need to do is run on this ground following the white line until we say not to. And yeah, each one of you needs to wear these ankle weights. Go there and wear it on both legs and start running as soon as you hear the whistle."
I see, so it's all about checking your stamina. And once again, I received mine at last. Though it was my own wish.
Minutes later, when everyone was done tying their ankles weights. The whistle was blown, and so everyone started running.
Around 40 of them dropped an hour later and gave up out of 150+ from the first stage.
"One last round, and then you call can stop." The knight announced after three hours of running. After that one lap, the second stage was also concluded.
Okay, that was not as easy as I initially thought. Well, what's done is done now. In the end, they only wanted thirty or less for the last stage. Quite strict, eh?
"You can take a rest for thirty minutes and freshen up. Once done, come to the area where the third stage will occur. One of us will guide you." A knight announced.
After taking a thirty minutes break, we followed the knight. The remaining entrants gathered inside an area.
"For third-stage, all you need to do is fight against someone for/under five minutes. No one should use magic or mana during the fight. Using will result in direct disqualification. We will call out names so as per that come on the ground."
A 1 v 1 battle with no use of magic, eh? Names were called one by one, and the times passed on.
So, you can still use weapons in your fight. It doesn't matter if one has a weapon and the other doesn't. It's not fair if it was just some sort of competition or tournament. It's the survival of the fittest in a competition format.
It's the 14th fight that is going on currently. That's all good, but I never said that I wanted my fight to be the last one.
And soon, the 14th fight ended, and it's my turn now.
"Arturo Kei and Marco Stoll, please come forward."
My opponent and I arrived on the field, and this Marco guy had a sword with him.
"Sigh,"
"Both of you, get ready!" Marco took his stance, "…. Start!!" As soon he heard the word 'Start', Marco rushed in and swung his sword.
Direct attack with no goal. I easily dodged it. Yet again, he swung his sword but couldn't hit me. I moved back, making a distance between us.
This kid is a total beginner in using a sword. Then why is he using one? Is it because no magic is allowed, and it will be easier to win using a sword? Did he really think of that?
I don't know, but I am gonna play around with him.
There's a five-meter distance between us, and he is holding his sword using both his hands. I rushed towards Marco and seeing this everyone was surprised.
Marco swung his blade diagonally when I got into his range. I dodged it with ease and moved a bit close to Marco from his left side. Grabbing Marco's right forearm with my left hand and, using my other hand, I smacked him onto his stomach.
The sword drops from his hand. He fell to his knees starts coughing, and I stepped back again.
"Are you willing to continue?" the Invigilator asked Marco.
He quickly got up.
You cannot give up, right? Of course, you cannot do so; you are from a noble family, after all.
He was annoyed and gave me a death stare.
"Don't be happy! You just got lucky, peasant."
"Is that so? By the way, what about your sword?" I replied with a smug face to annoy him more.
"Sword? I don't need one to kill you."
"Admit it that you don't know to use one. You were just swinging like kid earlier." I taunted him, and as expected, he lost his temper and rushed in aggressively. He tried to punch me. I moved aside and put my leg on his way, making him fall.
Watching this, the audience started laughing.
Marco immediately stands up and again starts throwing punches and kicks at me. Yet again, I dodge all of them. He was getting annoyed and irritated. Out of desperation, he used his magic.
Marco is super close and can easily hit me with his magic. He used "Fireball" at him with that distance.
{Fire ball: A ball of fire used to attack someone. Fire blast is its upgraded version. Tier-2 spell.}
"Sigh,"
"Stop right there," The Invigilator grabbed my hand and spoke.
"Entrant Marco, you are disqualified because you used the magic even when it's not allowed to. The match ends here, and Art wins."
Wait, wait, wait!! I was about to attack him seriously when I got behind him when he used the magic. I need to control my emotions.
"Everyone can go into our waiting hall inside this hall and wait till we let you know the final results."
Everyone proceeds to go inside the waiting hall.
"Marco, you need to come with us," Invigilator said to Marco.
Marco was still standing there. Well, I cannot blame him; after all, he just now experienced a near-death situation.

"Sir, you called me?
"Yes, Aron. I want you to help with something."
"What can I do for you, Sir?"
"I want to meet that kid."
"The one who used magic?"
"Nah, The other one."
"Sure, sir, I will let him know right now."
"Okay and…Please stop this formal talk."
