59 The Organization

It did not take long before her phone rang, Lu Nanfeng did not answer with a text message, but instead, he called her directly.

"How are you?" This was the first thing Lu Nanfeng asked. His voice was full of concern, and He Lixue instantly felt much better listening to it.

"I am fine," she assured him. "I have experienced worse things before," she blurted out, before realizing that she was no longer the old He Lixue, and she quickly changed the subject.

"Brother Nanfeng, do you have a laptop I can use? I need to investigate the papers that the two bodyguards had. If they have left a paper trail, then I might be able to figure out who is behind the scenes.

"Currently, we are in the light while they are in the dark, and this is a very uncomfortable feeling. We have no advantages over them, and we won't get any before we know who it is that is chasing me, and why they are doing so."

"I have a laptop in the study. You can use that one. The password is the date I met you in the sanatorium.

"I have called a few of my more trusted aides, and they have begun working on this as well. Assistant Hui should be unrelated to the entire case, but for now, don't contact him.

"Stay in my mansion at Mulberry Gardens. If you need anything, tell Housekeeper Jin, he will make sure you get it."

"Sounds good," He Lixue smiled. She did not mind that she was more or less confined to the house until she found out who was behind the kidnapping incident.

Even in her past life, when she was focused on a task, she did not go out for a month sometimes. It was a wonder that she had never turned chubby.

"How are things on your end?" He Lixue asked, not wanting to make Lu Nanfeng worry too much about her.

"I am fine, don't worry about me." Lu Nanfeng was fine with the work, but his eyes were narrowed, and his mind a mess.

If any other young woman had experienced what He Lixue had experienced today, could they deal with it so calmly?

He knew that He Lixue had some secrets, but he had not been in a hurry to unravel them before, now however, he felt uncomfortable.

He Lixue was unaware of Lu Nanfeng's thoughts, and she spoke a bit longer with him, chatting about her plans.

The more she acted nonchalantly, and in control, the more uncomfortable Lu Nanfeng became.

After having spoken together for nearly an hour, Lu Nanfeng finally ended the call before he called some of his most trusted subordinates.

Including these were Housekeeper Jin, who was told to keep an eye on He Lixue and give her anything she might need.

The others he called in order to investigate the people who had begun moving against He Lixue. Although he wanted to know her secret, now was not the time for that.

He had to ensure her safety; after that, he would try and convince her to tell him her secrets.

He Lixue was unaware that Lu Nanfeng was also trying to track the people who were hunting her down. She moved to the study and found a laptop, which she then turned on.

She then used the date they had met in the sanatorium as a password and found that it was correct. She felt a bit of sweetness in her heart when thinking that this was such an important day for him, that he wanted to use it as a password.

But soon, she had no time to think about sweetness. Her fingers danced on the keyboard as she began figuring out who was behind the kidnapping incident.

The easiest way to find the answer was to follow the paper trail left behind when they placed the two bodyguards by her side.

Their papers had to have looked quite authentic to fool Assistant Hui, and thus He Lixue hacked into the county's systems. Here, she found traces of foreign infiltration when looking at the documents made about these two bodyguards. Clearly, the hacker who had altered their information was not as skilled as her, as they could not help but leave a trace.

He Lixue continued to follow this trail. She did not care about who the bodyguards really were; all she wanted to know was who were the ones behind everything.

As soon as she left the government systems, she removed all her traces, but she soon found something that made her frown when she followed theirs.

The location of the person who had made the changes was not from within the country.

Feeling puzzled as to why someone from across the sea wanted anything from her, she continued to trail the traces, until her eyes opened wide, and her heartbeat increased.

She had managed to remove all the fake IPs that came from using various VPN programs, which in turn, had been used to mask the real hacker's destination, and in the end she found the one that belonged to the hacker.

But finding her target had not made her happy. Instead, it made her feel a sense of crisis and fear.

The ones who were trying to kidnap her were from the Organization! She knew that her current life had nothing to do with the Organization, so the only reason could be that they knew of her rebirth.

Were they trying to force her back into the abyss? She had already died for them once, and while she did want to thank her teacher for taking care of her all those years, she had no intention of returning to work for the Organization.

She was finally free, but now it felt as if a noose was hooked around her throat.
