"What did you say?" He Weiling looked at He Huiling, his eyes incredulous. "You said that you saw He Lixue eating dinner together with Lu Nanfeng and that Lu Nanfeng was protecting her whenever you tried to talk down to her?"

He Huiling had not hidden anything from her father, and she quickly explained everything that had happened from the beginning to the end, and she even repeated the words she had said, and what Lu Nanfeng had answered.

When Lu Nanfeng was not by He Lixue's side, she had answered for herself, but the moment he had arrived, he had not given her the chance to say a word.

He had been protecting her so obviously that everyone would think that they were a couple.

He Weiling frowned. "Can we use her, and her relationship with Lu Nanfeng, to get closer to him as well? If we can get closer to him, we might be able to raise our company's status and the status of our family.

"When we have gotten close to him, then you will try to seduce him. If you manage to sleep with him and give birth to his son, he will have no other choice than to marry you since he can't afford to leave a child with his bloodline outside of the family.

"This way, we can make sure that He Lixue never manages to make a comeback. We took her wealth and her properties, and you will take the man she has just hooked."

"What about Jiang Jinnan?" He Huiling could not help but ask. She was already engaged to him, but she found that although she thought that she loved him, she was not against splitting up with him if she could get Lu Nanfeng instead.

All of the people in the He mansion were quite ecstatic and started dreaming about a life in lavish luxury when He Huiling got married to Lu Nanfeng.

They could imagine that their company would flourish and that no one would ever say a thing about them again in the future.

At the same time, Jiang Jinnan went back to inform his parents about what had happened, that they had met Lu Nanfeng and that he was standing firmly on He Lixue's side. He was protecting her and pampering her, not even allowing her to open her mouth to argue with He Huiling.

Jiang Jinnan's parents were both shocked and started to worry about their future. They had no interest in interfering with Lu Nanfeng, but they had already made a marriage contract with He Huiling, so they could not withdraw just like that.

While the He and Jiang families were feeling uncomfortable, He Lixue and Lu Nanfeng finished their meal before he decided to drive her home.

He did not even ask where she lived; he was the one who had prepared the flat for her. When they arrived, He Lixue sent him a brilliant smile and left the car. She waved at Lu Nanfeng, after which she skipped into the protected area.

Lu Nanfeng stood in the car until she vanished from his sight, and he hurried home. He had just entered his own mansion when his phone began ringing.

Looking at the name on the screen, he could not help but frown. Picking it up, he said nothing at first, just listened to the voice on the other end.

"It is none of your business," he said after having listened for a few minutes. His stance was cold, and none of the softness that could be seen earlier was present.

"I have never approved of a marriage contract; if you want to marry Lin Xulian, then you can marry her yourself."

"I have said it has nothing to do with you, even if I were to go and get a wedding certificate with He Lixue tomorrow, that would only be my business, not yours."

Lu Nanfeng had no interest in getting a wedding certificate with He Lixue; he just wanted to infuriate the person on the other end of the phone. Still, when the words left his mouth, he found that it was actually not so hard to accept getting married to He Lixue. Unfortunately, they were merely friends.

"I already said what there is to say. Lin Xulian betrayed my feelings back in the day. I am not going back to her no matter what. I am not selling my future happiness for the sake of profits, either. I am going to decide who I marry and when I marry."

"I have to go now."

Not waiting for the other person to answer him, he ended the call and turned off the phone. He was suddenly reminded of a lot of bad memories whenever he thought of Lin Xulian. Why had she not moved on already? She was the one who betrayed him, so why was she still as annoying as a piece of tape that would not come off.

Lin Xulian was very different from He Lixue. Even though He Lixue looked like a white lotus, she acted like she was in control of everything. She was not easily manipulated, nor weak in mind. But whereas Lin Xulian was healthy in body, she was a typical snake in mind.

She would always blame everyone else for anything she did wrong; she would cry and expect to get everything her way when she did so. She was annoying, and Lu Nanfeng could not take the sight of her any longer.

He could not understand why he had even dated her in the past. It was quite a black mark on his record, but at least he had gotten a better taste.

He could not help but think about He Lixue and how much stronger she was, but he quickly shook his head. What was between himself and He Lixue was pure friendship. He should not try to overstep her boundaries.
