12 The Pledge

Silence ensued, everyone turned to the Truth Teller. They needed to know if everything this young girl, Jenny, said was really the truth.The woman did not even notice the expectant eyes on her. She was in a state of shock. Standing rooted where she was, quaking like a leaf in the storm and refusing to open her eyes. Her abilities, which allowed her to not only see the truth but also a movie of everything that is narrated, revealed that everything Jenny had said was far from a lie.

After a few moments the woman turned to Bane and she reluctantly opened her eyes. With their eyes locked, Bane could now see the obvious fear in the woman's eyes. "What's the conclusion?" Bane asked briskly.

"Everything this girl -this girl, Jenny has said is honest and free of any falsehoods. The woman stuttered out with evident strain.

"Well, what are we going to do with this information...Bane?" The woman asked.

" Go to the boss. Perform a memory share and come back. We will wait." Bane said briskly after he came out of the temporary daze that hit him when Jenny's words were confirmed as true.

The woman walked out, disappearing from their sight. No one spoke. Trapped in their thoughts, in their fear of what was to be. How could any more words be spoken, after those Jenny had uttered and the painful confirmation from the Truth Teller.

The state of silence remained unbroken for ten minutes. "I want to see my family." Jennny stated and everyone's eyes were on her again.

Bane grunnted and gave Jenny a venomous glare." Only after she comes back and you make the pledge." He said firmly.

Seeing his edginess, Jenny was lost on if she should continue pushing for what she desired or just let it be. Before she could make a decision, the door from which the woman disappeared, slid open to reveal the woman once more. She was holding a headset in her hands.

She walked straight to Bane and handed it over to him. It was already powered on, meaning it was already connected, he put it on hurriedly and began conversing with the person on the other side of the line. For some reason, despite her enhanced hearing, she could not catch a word of anything the other person said, but she could easily tell that everything being said to Bane were orders since Bane only replied in one word answers.

Finally, Bane handed the headset back to the woman, who walked out briskly and he looked towards Jenny, "The boss greatly appreciates your information, you will therefore be granted one request within his power." He said with irritation which turned into smugness as he continued his words," However, you first need to make the pledge as per our agreement."

Jenny stared at Bane, then nodded as she smoothly slipped out of the chair. They walked out of the room with Bane leading and everyone else following. They walked till they reached a grand, large, dimly lit room. In the room, there were about a dozen shoddy, hooded figures who were scattered all over the room.

Bane stopped where he was and glared at James and Rye. Bring one over, he said using his chin to point at the hooded figures. Feeling uncomfortable, the two did as he said and went to bring over one of the figures.

Upon bringing one of them over, the two made the figure stand before Bane." I wish to initiate a soul pledge." Bane stated. The most dangerous of pledges. It needed the one to initiate the pledge, who in most cases set the conditions for the pledge, the medium, and the one who is initiated to to follow the pledge.

" Who will be the initiated... in the pledge" The figure hoarsely questioned.

Jenny moved foward and looked at the figure undaunted by the creepy aura misting around it.

" I am."Jenny said briefly.

" The conditions to begin have been met. Let us begin." The figure said hoarsely. With those words, the air surrounding the two suddenly became suffocating then potently humid. Everyone else disappeared from their sight.

Bane's eyes shone with subtle malice, hidden behind seriousness.

"I Bane Kane, bind Jenny to always be loyal and use her powers loyaly for me..." deciphering what he wanted, Jenny quickly cut him off and interjected swiftly.

" Me race, humanity, to the best of her abilities. end contract."

Bane was so shocked by the girl's interjection that he couldn't speak for a while. Could an initiated really interrupt the one who initiates the pledge? Before he could even say a word the figure grabbed Jenny's hand lightly and and infinity tattoo formed on her wrist. " The contract is complete."

Before everything could return to normal, Bane spoke again through gritted teeth." That is not the contract I wanted...I didn't even say the last words...void it and restart it." But it was too late, the air was returning back to normal.

"You initiated the contract, it is therefore a complete contract. soul contract can not be re-initialized." With those words the air became normal and Jenny was able to see everyone once more. The hooded figure walked away from the two to exactly the same position he was in before James and Rye took him to start the contract.

Smirking, Jenny walked towards Bane who was still gritting his teeth in anger and spoke lightly, deep meaning in her words,"I am now loyal."
