13 Summoned

Glancing from Jenny to Bane with inquisition an a hint of confusion, Rye asked the burning question which was on his mind." What happened in there?"

Silence. Since a soul pledge could not be witnessed by anyone but the initiate, initiated and the medium, no one else had seen what had happened during Jenny's soul pledge. Consequently, James, Layna and Rye knew nothing of what had transpired, they were in the dark. However, something was strange. Layna and James, they did not have the same sense of inquisition that Rye had.

Deciding to ignore them for now, Jenny's eyes showed amusement.Her smirk grew and she glued her eyes on Bane. She remained silent so as to give him an opportunity to speak, she was very curious on how this man would answer the question with how everything had transpired in the isolated space.

Vexed but unable to fully show his emotions, Bane forced himself to act as he normally did. "It all went as planned."He stated grumpily and turned to walk away from the group, planning to avoid further questioning.

Jenny's smirk turned into a sarcastic smile upon hearing Bane's words and watching him turn away. She could distinctly sense his anger that was like boiling water in a pot, ready to overflow. He was clearly putting on a front for the people present, who clearly trusted him. However, Jenny had come to discover just a few seconds ago that this man, Bane, was clearly someone who could not be trusted.

He who had spoken fervently on the importance of loyalty and the pledge which was meant for the greater good, for all humanity. However, contrary to those words, the trusted Bane planed on taking advantage of the opportunity to try to control Jenny by making her loyal to himself in the isolated space where no one could witness his deed. Luckily, she knew just how to deal with such snakes, gaining from them - long term- instead of loosing.

"Yes...it was an interesting experience," she dragged out deliberately looking at Bane's back, then she continued," I just have to wonder..." Bane stopped abruptly and slowly turned as Jenny carried on,"....what would happen if one happened to use it for the..." Jenny's question was cut short as Bane let out a loud cough and looked into Jenny's eyes venomously.

"People do normally find it interesting and I already know your question...No, one can't use it for the...second time" Bane said briskly," Follow me now for clarification."He said with meaning dripping his words.

Jenny's smile became deep with those words. However, unwilling to obey him or satisfy him, Jenny turned towards Rye and her expression changed drastically, "Now as per the agreement I would like to see my family." She stated with neither arrogance nor fear.

Rye looked at James who had been silent the whole time. "Jenny we will have to delay that, we need you to do something else for us."James said. Her mood dropped drastically. Were they going back on their word?

With a burning glare and a fake smile plastered on her lips, she spoke through gritted teeth," We agreed that when I did what you people required which was the pledge that people hardly survive, I would be able to see my family and we could live here. What has changed?"

Everyone in the room could feel the negative energy flowing out of Jenny. It was very obvious that Jenny's temper was hanging on a thread and one wrong move, one wrong word, one wrong anything and her rage would come hurtling towards them. They were obviously in great danger. However, undaunted by any oh this, James answered the question briefly," You have been summoned."

Jenny turned to Bane whom she had deemed long ago as the most treacherous of them all to see if he knew about this prior to the deal he made with her, however she was stunned to see a confused look on his face. He was unquestionably not in the loop. Therefore this information, or rather order, came when she was making a soul pledge.

Tilting her head in disdain, Jenny gave James a look full of indifference. " That's very fascinating, the same people who preach good virtues like loyalty, want to break an oath they have made. Why?" A sarcastic smile blossomed once more on her lips as she said these words, making her aura seem even more dangerous. She paused then questioned slowly and provocatively" Why am I being summoned? By whom am I being summoned? Most importantly, why should I even listen to the orders of faceless summoners?"

A few seconds passed in a tense silence then for the first time since Jenny and Bane returned, Layna finally spoke, " W-We will not break our oath, the children will be safe here but first you must comply. Come with us." She paused and looked Jenny in the eye, hoping that the child would obey but all she saw in Jenny's eyes was blatant rebellion.

Layna took a deep breath as if to gather strength, then continued speaking venomously,"You are being summoned by the people you have pledged allegiance to , The Primes. You are therefore duty bound to do as they request. Whether you want to or you don't want to, whether you know who they are or not, whether you know the reason for their orders or not. You are their exclusive marionette, doing everything they say. Under their thumb, as per the pledge you made with Bane's guidance."

It was like the light had dawned on Jenny. No wonder there was no trace of inquisition on James' and Layna's faces. They knew what was to happen, that's why they sent someone who they thought was trustworthy, Bane, but they didn't know what really happened and they didn't know who Bane really was. He was just a snake in their created paradise of lies. Jenny smiled, to think she almost completely trusted these people, who had planned to make her their little puppet all along. Well she would show them what a puppet could do.

Jenny looked at Rye, Layna, James, and Bane. Only Rye had confusion painted across his face since he only knew of the order but could not understand what Layna was saying about the pledge. Everyone else showed understanding of Layna's words. They were obviously in the inner circle.

Jenny nodded at James who had given her the order and took a deep breath.They started walking out of the room. It was time for the show.
