2 Who am I?

The old man groggily looked around, he had a splitting headache and realized he was laying at the foot of a staircase. 'What the hell? Where am I?' The blacksmith wonders, as he looks around the room. He is an old 2-story family home. It is quite a nice house, but it has a rustic feel to it.

'That wasn't a hallucination?' The old man wonders, realizing that this is his second chance at life. His eyes immediately wander to the bright, blue screen in front of his eyes.

[ Would you like to inherit previous host's memories? ] ( Yes / No ) The old man taps yes, and the splitting headache multiplies by hundreds. The old man curls up in a ball clutching his head as memories come flooding in.

The blacksmith realizes he is on a planet called Earth. The planet Earth is in the early stages of the demon hordes advance, as it only showed up for the first time 20 years ago. With portals to hell opening up now and then. The ecosystem is also slowly adapting to mana.

Humanity has adapted fast and is already training many young and old to become demon hunters. It is a lucrative job as long as you're good at it. Demon carcasses are very useful in all types of things, and since their body has been saturated with mana since they were born, they can be used as a fuel source.

The old man learns he has inherited the body of 15-year-old Yorick Edwards. Yorick lost his parents in a tragic accident with the demon horde 2 years prior. He has been living on his own and barely made it through middle school.

Yorick was quite talented with mana and worked as hard as he could to become a part of this year's new batch of students at Hunters Academy, a prestigious high school made to nurture new demon hunters.

Yorick was a tall youth with black hair and eyes. He had sword-like eyebrows and eyes that could pierce your soul. He had quite a handsome face but in the past years since his parents died, he had let himself go. He was a mess emotionally, and physically.

Yorick died when he tripped and fell down the stairs, it was quite a pathetic death, and maybe god had Yorick's original soul go to an alternate universe too. That allowed the old blacksmith to inherit his body. The blacksmith, or Yorick now, slowly gets up. In front of him, the blue screen appears again.

[ Open status menu? ] ( Yes / No ) Yorick clicks yes and a long screen appears in front of him.

[ Name: Yorick Edwards / Age: 15 ]

[ Level: 1 ]

[ Experience Points: 0 / 10 ]

[ Job: None ]

[ Titles: None ]

[ Strength: 10 ]

[ Agility: 10 ]

[ Mana: 10 ]

[ Vitality: 10 ]

[ Status Points: 0 ]

[ Skills: Blacksmithing-S+, Swordsmanship-E, Mana Control-D+ ]

As the blacksmith had inherited that memories of Yorick. He understood that this screen was similar to an RPG game, and knew what each stat did.

"System, how can I level up?" Yorick asks as he did not quite understand what he could do to get levels.

[ Hello player, the system will automatically assign quests fitting the situation the player is in, these can be completed for experience points, items, and other things to benefit the player. Most quests are optional and don't have a penalty, but some quests are automatically given, and some include penalties. The player is not a high enough level to unlock all of the system's attachments, including the store and inventory. ]

"I see..." Yorick nodded. He checked the date, it was currently August 20th, 2040. In the past 20 years, humans have not made many advancements in technology, but they have in hunting. As he checked the date, Yorick also realized the opening ceremony to the Hunter's Academy was tomorrow.

"I definitely have to clean up, this body is a mess." Yorick walks towards the bathroom to get cleaned up. After cleaning up, he pulls out his phone to get a haircut at a nearby barbershop. He doesn't want to look scruffy on his first day there.

As he is walking home, Yorick can't help but admire how advanced this world is. With the billboards, the phones, the electric signs. It captivates him, who was just in a world where none of this existed.

As he is walking, Yorick accidentally bumps into someone. He apologizes and keeps moving when a hand grabs his shoulder.

"Hey, punk, I think you broke my shoulder. Pay the hospital fees or I'll knock you out." As Yorick turns around, he sees a hideous face. It has tattoos all over with piercings and a terrible mohawk. The guy is clearly a thug.

If this was the old Yorick, he would bow down and apologize, then he would probably get beat up. Even though Yorick was a demon hunter trainee, he was meek and didn't stand up for himself. But the old blacksmith hated these kinds of people the most. Taking advantage of those you think are weak, he found it repulsive.

[ Attention Player, Quest Generated ]

[ Defeat Thug : Difficulty E- : Time Limit- None ]

[ Reward- 10 EXP ]

[ Accept? ] ( Yes / No )

Yorick clicks yes and accepts the quest, after all, he needs to level up to get stronger.

"I didn't break your shoulder, and I'm not paying you. So you can either piss of or fight me." Yorick coldly glared at the thug. He was confident because the previous host had trained in body strengthening techniques. Plus, he knew basic fighting techniques.

"You shitty kid!" The thug yelled as he ran at Yorick. He threw a fist that had no technique whatsoever. Yorick easily sidestepped and slapped the thugs back, knocking him unbalanced. The thug tumbles to the concrete.

"You shithead! That hurt!" The thug gets up. He was annoyed, but he wasn't stupid enough to not realize the difference between them. Yorick's technique and body strength were much more than his, as he was a regular thug and Yorick was a demon hunter trainee. As the punk scurried away with his tail between his legs, Yorick waited for the quest to complete.

[ Congratulations Player, E- rank quest 'Defeat Thug' Completed ]

[ Awarding Plater 10 EXP ]

[ Congratulations Player! You have reached level 2. You have been awarded three stat points. You can assign them now or wait until later ]

Yorick decided to assign his stat points now, so he could grasp the improvements made.

"System, assign three stat points into mana." As soon as Yorick said that he could feel a clear difference from before. His mana pool got larger, and he could feel it flowing through his body smoother.

"System, can I only increase stats with status points?" Yorick asked as he was not quite sure how he could increase them.

[ The player can increase status points by doing basic physical body and mana training. He can also get them from leveling up and questing ]

Yorick nods in understanding, it makes sense that physical training would help his stats, as they were just his body in number form. After his first quest completion, nothing else uneventful happens as he heads home.

When he arrives home he realizes how late it is and remembers he has to attend his opening ceremony tomorrow, Yorick goes to bed. Awaiting him tomorrow is his new, second life on Earth.
