Forever Wanderer: A Calico’s instinct

Maple watches a circus show from her cage that was preforming, her sky blue eyes glistened with excitement as a tiger with a left blue eye and a right yellow eye leaped through a fire ring. Her mother, Sugar glared at the crowd of humans as they cheered, she held no grudge against other animals only the humans. She believed that they were the reason why her mate Storm left her and Maple.

"Stripes is so cool!" Maple meowed. Sugar rolled her eyes and replied "indeed, despite his ancestors being the fiercest beasts who ruled the jungle, he is quite a gentleman."

"Although he is much younger than him, Stripes reminds me of your father"

"My father? What was he like?"

"He is a gray tabby with one flopped ear, beautiful blue eyes just like yours" Sugar said as she touch noses with Maple.

"He treated me like a goddess, loves you and your sister even if he couldn't stay around anymore"

"I had a sister?"

Sugar stayed silent for a moment, uncertain whether to tell the kitten or not, since Maple is only 3 months old.

"Yes I did, but she left after your father was taken away"

Sadness fills her heart, as she asked her mother a question.

"Why did they leave?"

"Sometimes the world is a cruel place, so remember this Maple. Never hesitate to fight for the ones you love" Sugar then blurted "Remember that when you leave this hell scape of a circus"

"Wait… I'm leaving the circus?" Maple's voice shaking with confusion and fear.

Sugar sighed, she said "yes Maple, but I'm doing this because I want you to get a chance at a life of freedom. The humans will eventually take everything away from you…"

"When am I leaving?" Maple asked, Sugar pulled Maple closer to her.

"Tomorrow morning when the humans are opening the cages to feed us. You will run out of the circus and to the outside world."

Maple stills thinks that this is a bad idea, but doesn't want to upset her mother, afterall she was the only one who cared for her.

"You're going to escape with me right?"

"Sorry Maple, but they have chained me to the cage walls, you're the only one that can escape"

"But what if I still need you?…" Maple tilted her head, a look of despair crossed her face.

"You will grow up to be a strong wildcat… and you won't need me anymore…" Sugar smiled softly, Maple knew he mother was doing what she felt was best for her, but still leaving the only cat who cared for her at such a young age was a big challenge for the young bobcat.

The next morning when the humans opened the calico bobcat's cage.

"Maple run!" Sugar exclaimed, the 4 months old kitten sprinted outside. She ran into the near town in hopes of hiding from the humans pursuing her.

Town name: The Wild's Hills

The town was built near the cliff that leads down to the river. Since it was built so close to the wildlife, predators such as wolves, bears, even animals that originated from other parts of world now roamed the earth would occasionally show up there to hunt. With the fall of society, humans were no longer the rulers of the world, and most of the earth was returned to nature.

The overpopulation of humans in the world caused famine and more animals were slaughtered for food, but also helped the animals survive after learning about human's way of hunting and avoids them.

Maple cautiously roamed around the town, she looked down a path leading to a farm.

' looks like a safe place to stay for now'

She glanced over at a chicken coop, 'the perfect food source.'

As no one was looking, she sneaks in to the chicken coop and hunts down a hen.

Suddenly Maple was dragged out off the coop by a Great Pyrenees, who was the guard dog of the farm.

"Damn calico! I would just throw you out of here, but I don't think you are a normal cat, so prepare to die you wild beast!"

Maple barely got away when the dog tries to bite her. They ran to the edge of the farm, which is the side of a mountain.

Maple climbed up the rocks in hopes to escape, but the Great Pyrenees continued to followed her.

The rocks became unstable and started to collapse, Maple grabbed on the an edge of a cliff before the rock fall fell on her.

In a last attempt to reach the calico bobcat cat, the guard dog was crushed by the rockfall. As the dust subside, Maple slowly crawled down the the rocks. Half Great Pyrenees's body was buried under the crimson red rubble dyed by his blood. Maple was in shock that she caused the death of another animal at 3 months old, yet relieve that she survived.

She ran away and hid under a bridge before the farmers were alerted. She spent a week in hiding before she decided to find food in the town area.

A man notices the weak young calico bobcat wandering the streets.

The kind human rescues Maple from the streets and brought her back to his home. He seemed familiar like if she had seen him before but pays no mind as she would much rather live with him in a mansion than in the dangerous wilderness.

Her new owner taught her how to do tricks that would remind her of circus, especially when she had to jump through hoops that were similar to the fire rings.

She also met two other animals, a hare named Mallow, who got lost from his warren as a child and a German shepherd named Sapphire who is the mansion's guard dog.

She lived a luxurious life with no worries in a single thing but nothing ever lasts forever and a perfect life is no exception.
