Opportunity Comes Not Once But Twice

Nora's POV

I woke up with a start. I was jobless and I had a sister that had her hopes high that I will further her education but the thing was -no job, no money- . Poor me.

I had granted about fifteen interviews this week all to no avail. I decided to rest today because I was tired from all those worthless interviews. I got up from my bed, yawning and stretching. I walked to the bathroom, attended nature's call and brushed my teeth. I had my bath and put on a huge tank top which reached my mid thighs. I put my hair in a messy bun.

I checked the fridge and found nothing. I really need to go grocery shopping. I made some coffee. I preferred it black with no sugar at all. When I was done taking my coffee, the door bell rang and a newspaper was pushed under the door. Oh, the newspaper deliverer.

I took the newspaper from the floor fighting the sharp pains in my waist. I'm have been working so hard due to the interviews I had. I sat in one of the four sofas in my sitting hall and opened the newspaper.

There on the newspaper, in his glorious self, pictured the famous bachelor, Xavier Anderson. Many have feared him for being ruthless, arrogant and heartless. And the headline said and I quote:

The CEO of Xavy's Architecture, Mr. Xavier Anderson has required a personal assistant. Now in details:

Mr. Xavier Anderson has announced to the New York Times that he is in dying need of an assistant. He want the person to have at least a degree in architecture. Any one who wants to take up that offer can go tomorrow to Xavy's Architecture at exactly 6:00 am for the job interview. Thank you.

'Opportunity comes not once, but twice'. Oh God. I have a degree in architecture. This was a dream come true. I rushed upstairs to prepare my outfit for tomorrow's interview.  I was already nervous.

The day went by with me thinking of the interview. I already planned on giving up if I didn't get this job. Soon, it was evening. I had my shower and went to my room. Maybe its creepy to some if you, but I sleep naked since no one lives with me.

I put my hair in the usual messy bun and climbed into bed. 'Its gonna be alright'. I kept telling myself. Soon my eyelids started becoming heavy. Sleep was calling me and soon I drifted into dreamland.

''Imma show you how to get it,

We go right foot up,

Left foot slide,

Left foot up,

Right foot slide',

'Toosie Slide' by Drake blared from my phone. I groaned it was 4:00am. And you guessed right, I woke up early due to my interview. I rolled on the bed, accidentally falling off. I fell in my bare butt.

I muttered an 'ouch' under my breath. I groaned while walking to the bathroom. I usually spend 10 minutes in the bath but today I spent 30 minutes in the bath. I really wanted the job.

I put on a sky blue button up shirt which brought the full shape of my breast. I didn't want to seduce Mr. Xavier Anderson but I needed to look good. I put on heels and a black fitting skirt which brought out my curves. It reached just above my knees. I had the curves already and many women will be dying to be in my place. I put my waist length hair in cascading waves and put my phone, lip gloss, money and resume in my Calvin Klein handbag. I left the house at 4:56am because I wanted to catch the early bus.

I arrived at Xavy's Architecture at 5:45am, 15 minutes early. I received the greatest shock of my life. We were supposed to be here at 6 o'clock and at 5 there was a cue of 'Xavy's aspiring assistants'. Whoa.

People kept on going in his office and coming out and it felt like it was never going to be my turn. To be honest, about 99% of the people present were females. Some dressed to seduce Mr. Anderson and it was obvious.

"Next", I heard it being called out. Thank God. It was my turn. I entered the office taking in what ever was there.

One wall was made of concrete while three were made of glass. One was giving a better view of the city while the other two gave him a chance to see into the offices on either side of his. Behind the dark mahogany table, sat Mr. Xavier Anderson. He was strikingly handsome. His hair was dark brown which looked so soft. He has a perfect and chiseled jawline. He had a slight stubble on his chin. He had on a pair of blue trousers and blue coat with a white top.

He cleared his throat bringing me out of my staring trance. "Sit", he said with his deep, authoritative voice which will definitely make every girl melt.

I sat down opposite him while fidgeting with my fingers under the table. "So, tell me about yourself", he said while leaning in.

I replied elongating the okay, "Okay....so I'm Nora Roberts, 21 years of age. I hold a degree in architecture from Miami Dade University. My life depends on this job since I have to further my sister's education myself because...I-I'm an orphan".

"May I see your resume?" I nodded digging into my bag. Lip gloss, money, phone....., where's my resume? I put it in my bag this morning.

His voice startled me, "Are you wasting my time or you just came over to see what I really looked like". I shook my head.

"I-I-I can't find my.....um....my resume. But I'm not lying about my degree in architecture".

"Get out", he said sternly. I felt the tears pool up in my eyes. My world was shattering down.

I got up to leave when he said, "I doubt you will pass as my assistant but if you do, we shall give you a call".

I nodded my head and walked out of his office. Oh God, I'm screwed. I took a car and went home. Upon reaching home, I let the tears flow freely.
