2 Chapter 1: The Argents

The morning sun beamed out through the curtain and landed on Akela Argent's soft face. She squinted her brown eyes from the Sun's rays and got up in a daze. Akela looked to the left side of the bed and saw that it was empty as usual. She sighed and decided to get up to start the new day.

Her daily routine consisted of getting the kids up for school and getting right to her job. Being the Luna of the Western Region is a big responsibility in werewolf society. This was something that most females never had to experience because they were not bred for it.

Ever since her mate disappeared 8 years ago with their eldest son Seth; she had to take on the responsibility of the Western region. He left without a trace. Not even the packs greatest trackers could find him and their son. The events that led up to his disappearance just did not make sense. He was fine before their twin daughters were born, but after that he started becoming aggressive and controlling. Every little thing set him off,and as time went on he just got progressively worse. This was how he earned his name "The Mad Alpha".

Akela became invested in finding Grayson after he vanished for four years. When her investigation led to dead ends, she gave up entirely and decided to move on with her life and focus on her children and the pack.

She still felt him though, the effects of the mate bond affected her greatly. She always felt this pain and somehow it would stop. Akela always tried to read his mind, or try to mind link with him. It never worked, there was this barrier that wouldn't allow her to talk to him.

She quickly pushed the thought of Grayson to the back of her mind and went to wake up her children. She first went to Aspen and Sky's room. They were fraternal twins and were eight years old. Aspen being the oldest, was much like her father and had the same physical characteristics of him. Black hair and blue eyes, while Sky had brown hair and blue eyes. Sky was born blind, but that didn't stop her from wanting to explore the world.

Akela walked into the room and saw Sky already up and brushing her teeth in the small bathroom. She looked around the room, but couldn't find Aspen.

"Where's your sister?" Akela asked.

"She went with Felix and Sawyer to the forest to practice shifting " said Sky while brushing her teeth.

"I wanted to go with them but they said I would just slow them down!" Sky pouted.

Her oldest son, Felix, is sixteen, and is quite the determined young man. He had jet black hair and soft brown eyes like his mother. Even at a young age, he was adventurous and always finding ways to be outside and practicing.

Akela rolled her eyes. "Of course they did" She thought. Akela knew that they wanted to learn how to shift into their wolf forms, but felt it was still too dangerous for them. Considering how young they still are. But both were determined children and she couldn't deny them opportunities to connect with their wolf.

Sky had sensed her mother getting lost in thought because of how quiet she was.

"Hey Mama?" Akela knelt down to Sky's level.

"Yes, sweetie?"

"Can we have pancakes for breakfast??"

Akela chuckled, "Of course".

"With sprinkles and chocolate syrup?"

"As much as you want. But we can't let Felix and Aspen have any! Quick! To the kitchen!" Akela exclaimed.

§Felix§

"Okay, Felix. When shifting, you have to connect and focus on your wolf. It is imperative you keep your emotions in check. Our emotions often tend to control our impulses. So if your emotions are heightened, it will be harder to control shifting, and it will be quite painful compared to shifting voluntarily." Beta Sawyer was explaining to Felix the importance of controlling ones emotions while Aspen sat listening nearby. Even though she is only eight years old, she had been dreaming of the day she would first shift, and hearing Beta Sawyers advice from experience only made her more excited.

Felix was around the age when young werewolves would typically first shift. It usually happens on a full moon. The full moon heightens a werewolves abilities, and this actually encourages their wolf to shift. Sawyer had a feeling Felix would shift on the next full moon, and so he had been mentally and physically preparing him for it.

Felix's best friend, Ash, had shifted for the first time last full moon and this excited Sawyer as this was the start of the next generation of werewolves. Many of the other teens hadn't shifted yet, but Sawyer's gut feeling told him that Felix was next.

After another hour and a half of breathing exercises, lectures, and an intense workout, the three headed back to the Argent residence.

They walked into the kitchen and could smell freshly made pancakes. "PANCAKES!" squealed both the siblings. They quickly ran to the table where their mother and sister sat.

Akela chuckled. "Make sure you wash up first before you sit down." "Yes mother" the pair quickly left.

"Luna Akela." Beta Sawyer bowed lightly. "Good morning, Beta Sawyer" Akela nodded her head to him. "Please, join us" she gestured toward the seat next to her. "Thank you, Luna." He walked over and took a seat.

"So how was he?" Akela looked a little worried, but was excited to know that soon her son would be a newly transformed werewolf. "He was excellent, Ma'am. I believe his first shift will go smoothly during the next full moon." She breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good. Thank you for helping him."

"It's my pleasure, Luna. Anything for the future head Alpha of the West." Sawyer smiled. Akela could feel his gratitude due to the pack bond. Ever since Grayson disappeared, he was there playing his role as Beta and helped Akela lead the pack and manage Argent Tech. She was eternally grateful for his loyalty to her not only as his Luna, but as his friend.
