Chris stood in front of Aiyana the distant sound of the tap filling the bath echoed along the walls of their bedroom. Something had changed today. They both knew it. They felt the shift again.

She stood right there; her lips parted as uneven breath curled out of her lips. Looking at him as if for the first time.
