2 For You

Martin stood by the karaoke door, listening to the young kids in the room. They all had potential.

Great faces, personalities, and voices.

All of them had top quality talent.

Martin breathed in and knocked on the door and the laughter within stopped. He hoped that they wouldn't think he was a con artist.

The taller boy had been scowling at the girl and the other boy while they laughed when he heard the knock. The tall boy walked towards the door and looked through the small square window on the door. He looked puzzled to see Martin.

He opened the door, "Hello? I thought our time wasn't up until 4?"

Martin shifted nervously, "I'm not an employee."

The boy at the door raised one of his eyebrows, "Then who are you and what do you want?"

"I am a talent agent. I work for Silver Castle entertainment and I'd like to recruit you and your friends."

The boy narrowed his blue eyes as he stepped back to let Martin enter, "Come in."

Martin stepped into the room nervously. The pretty girl and beautiful boy looked at Martin as the taller boy shut the door. The two pairs of olive and amber eyes stared at him quizzically.

"Daniel, who is this?" asked the girl with clear green olive eyes.

"Daniel is a good name," thought Martin.

"He's supposedly a talent agent from Silver Castle entertainment," Daniel said gesturing at Martin.

"What's your name?" the other boy asked softly.

"My name is Martin King. May I also ask what all of your names are?"

The boy grinned, flashing his pearly white teeth, "I'm Sam, but my real name is Jupiter."

"I'm Alexandra, but I go by Alex," said Alex.

"My name is Daniel, but you probably knew that already."

Jupiter-no, Sam smiled impishly at Martin, his two canines flashing under the disco lights of the Karaoke room.

"So, Martin King is it? I'll search you up and we'll see if you're really him."

Martin nodded. "Smart kid," he thought.

Sam pulled out his phone and typed "Martin King" in Google. Very quickly, a Wikipedia profile popped up on the screen. There were also many articles like "A and the Man behind him: Martin King" and "Martin King: Three Superstars". Sam looked at the picture on the Wikipedia page and looked back at Martin, "So you really are a talent agent."

"Yup, impressed?"

Sam nodded honestly.

"Well, I'd like to recruit all three of you to my company."

Alex gasped and her eyes twinkled, "You're going to recruit us? We're going to become stars?"

"You'll still have to audition like the rest of the people, but you'll get your own slots and recommendations instead of having to pass the screening before auditioning. I'll give you my business card in case you want to audition. The auditions are on August 13th."

Martin then coolly walked out of the karaoke room.

Sam laid in bed, thinking about whether or not to do it. What will my parents think?

Six years ago...

Sam watched from the closet as his parents screamed at each other in the bedroom. His dad's veins were popping out of his head as he roared at his wife. Sam's mom was sobbing and screaming, "You have a family! A wife! Two kids! AND YOU WANT ANOTHER ONE?!!! WITH A WOMAN IN HER TWENTIES? She's barely out of college for god's sake!"

"Well, I don't love you anymore! I love HER and SHE loves me! We want to start a family together!"

"WHAT ABOUT SAM?!?! WHAT ABOUT ANNIE?!?! THEY'RE YOUR CHILDREN! ARE YOU GOING TO ABANDON THEM FOR THAT DAMNED WOMAN?!?!"

"Then I'll take custody! AND DON'T EVER INSULT HER AGAIN!!!"

*SMACK*

Sam's dad slapped Sam's mom and she fell to the floor sobbing as he stormed out of the apartment. Sam curled up in the closet, bringing his knees up to his chest, crying softly. Everyone was so sad. Dad left. Was he ever going to come back?

Mommy's sobs quieted. She shakily rose up and sniffled. She grabbed tissues, dried her tears and faked a happy smile before stumbling out of the room calling out cheerfully, "Sam, Annie, your dad went out on a business trip!"

As soon as she left the room, he ran to the living room and got on his tablet, putting on his headphones, pretending to have been listening to music the whole time. Mommy came back into the room with Annie cradled in her arms, "Sam?"

Sam pretended not to hear her and sniffled at the screen, playing a sad video to make it seem like he had been crying because of the video. Mommy stiffened when she saw Sam crying, but relaxed when she saw the screen on his tablet.

For the next week, she pretended that he was on the business trip, lying to her kids. Sam knew that dad wasn't on a business trip when he woke up in the middle of the night to get water and saw his dad, mom, and a foreign pretty lady standing by the front door with luggage.

"Daddy?" he called out.

His dad's originally dark and cold face lightened up. "Hey buddy! Watcha doing up?" he said in a soft voice.

"I was up to get a glass of water when I saw you and mommy. I thought you were on a business trip."

His dad's originally happy face seemed to crack, when he spoke, his voice was strained, " I forgot some things and came back to get them. In a couple of months, I'll be back."

After a couple of months, his dad did come back, but it was to get Sam, "Hey buddy! You're going to live with me from now on."

Sam left with his dad to the new house in California, leaving his sister and mom behind in New York. His new mom was nice but awkward. She was trying hard to become close to Sam, but he was always cold to her. He closed himself off from his stepmom and eventually his dad.

Sam laid in bed, staring up at the small constellations painted on his dark blue ceiling. He had made up his mind.
