3 Chapter 3

I awoke to the sound of yelling and a strong scent of bacon, a delicacy that we don't often have in the city due to the lack of pig farms. We generally ate vegetables and chicken because they were easy to farm.

I slowly sat up and at that exact moment, Tobias busted through the door.

In a fireball of worry he pulled me from my bed and practically dragged me down the hall. Everyone was running around like madmen and Tobias was pretty much carrying me out.

"Wait what's going on?" I asked him as I heard Carla screaming orders at everyone from downstairs and before I could ask anymore questions Tobias was carrying me to the car. He put me down in the bed of the truck.

I immediately looked at the cabin which was bellowing dark black smoke. One by one, a flash of lighting was bringing people out of the house. Carter was running in and out bringing people outside. His high speed running was causing the flames to get more oxygen which was making the situation worse. Carter got everyone out and then violently collapsed onto the road, heaving for air.

I looked around and noticed that Carla was nowhere in sight.

Smoke bellowed out of the back of the cabin. An obvious house fire this early in the morning was too much.

"Where's Carla?" Tobias asked worriedly. The first time ever that he wasn't hostile while talking about her.

Carter lifted his head and shook his head.

"We need to get her, she would die!" I frantically said as I started to stand up.

Tobias pushed me back down on the truck.

"You obviously don't know Carla very well," Kathy said quietly as she wiped soot from her face.

"I'll be back, stay here," Tobias urged me as he took off sprinting into the fiery house.

"He's stupid," Madelyn groaned through a cough.

"Yeah I know," I groaned back. I looked worriedly at the burning building, waiting for Carla and Tobias to walk out.

"It's been too long," I mumbled after a few minutes.

"Carla won't let him get hurt," Carter said as he started to breathe normally again.

"You're positive that she's alright?" I asked.

Carter pointed at the house, "You see the orange?"

"Yeah?"

"That's Carla using a power," Carter explained, "She took it from a superhuman she was fighting about a year ago. It helps her control her power better and she no longer has to touch things to change their molecules."

"That's one heck of a power," I said quietly.

"It really is," Carter added, "She's way stronger now."

"Which is dangerous if she goes psycho again," Madelyn sighed.

"She hasn't been out of her head in three years, I think we can safely say she's flipped a new page," Liam answered.

I skinnier dark haired guy walked up to me and sat down next to me. He looked over at me and tilted his head slightly as if he was a curious puppy.

"I don't think we've met," the guy said softly.

"My name is Daisy," I introduced myself.

"Daisy this is my adopted brother Henry," a reddish haired girl butted in, "Love the name by the way, my name is Charlotte."

"Oh you guys are Carla's kids from the future," I exclaimed happily. I remembered the story Carla had told me about them coming from the future to hang out with Carla because she died. And then Carla went a year without her friends because the timeline changed and made her killer kill all her friends.

I met her during that year along with Dylan and Aspen, who assassins that Blaire trained.

That's when Carla's alter visual started. After her friends died, Carla became an assassin that took down serial killers, people who murder kids, drug cartels, and human trafficking instances. She hid her real name because she's wanted by the same people she worked for.

She went back in time and saved them before they died.

"Your mom talks about you two a lot," I smiled.

A loud crack sounded from the inside of the house and then the roof collapsed. Everyone looked at the house, frozen.

Why hadn't Carla killed the fire?

Tobias.

A few seconds later, Carla came running out of the house carrying Tobias bridal style in her arms. Tobias, looking almost lifeless, was limp in her arms.

She set him down on the road and then ran back to the house. She was motivated and had an obvious fear for something in there.

"Oh my gosh the dogs," Eclipse gasped from a few meters away. Carter immediately got wide eyed and then was pinned to the ground by Liam.

"My baby!" Carter screamed, "I need to get Catalina! Get off!"

Liam had him securely pinned on the ground so there was no way the speedster was getting into the house.

"Listen Carter!" Liam yelled, "Carla is already in there, we all know she's the only one able to get in there and get out safely."

A pained cry erupted from the house followed by Carla screaming.

"They're hurt!" Carter yelled.

"Stop Carter!" Liam argued.

Eclipse started running towards the house but Aspen, his girlfriend, tackled him to the ground. Dylan, their friend, helped pin him to the ground.

"Nobody else move!" Madelyn yelled, "I'm might lose one of my friends, no way am I going to lose any more."

Nathan had a tight grip on Hannah's, his fiancee's, arm. Everyone was holding onto all the flight risk heroes. I turned towards to house and instantly felt Tobias weakly grab my arm.

"I tried to save her," Tobias whined almost silently.

I nodded, "I know."

"Go save her," Tobias whispered.

I turned towards the house once more and took a step to start sprinting but Liam grabbed my ankle, causing me to trip and knock my face off the pavement. Very quickly my vision darkened. The only thing I could hear was screaming, Carla's screaming.
