12 The Tenth Rogue

After calming down and apologizing, Matt asks about my classes.

"A Rogue? What do they do?"

"Well, it's basically like an..uh...all arounder? It sounds like you do a little bit of everything, like using magic and training in multiple fighting styles and weapons."

Both Natalia and Matt look surprised.

"That seems like a really good class."

"Yes, is seems very strong."

"So which class did you end up picking?"

Alcon is back from the bathroom and must have overheard me.

"I obviously picked the Rogue class! Why wouldn't I?"

"I don't know, maybe you wanted to be a knight instead. I mean, I picked Dark Knight, also known as the Anit-Paladin! No one would want to be a wimpy magic caster."

A little sweat pops up on Matt's forehead.

"So Natalia, what class did you choose?"

Natalia's seems a little confused by the way he said it a little louder than needed, but answers nonetheless.

"I uh, picked Druid."

"A Druid? What are you, a tree hugger and sniffer of animal ass?!"

Natalia turns to Alcon with a fire in her eyes.

"No, they use elemental healing and buff magic. We can also learn attack spells. What do Dark Knights do, sit in dark corners and brood all day? Meticulously plan their outfits so their 10 different shades of black match?"

Taken aback, Alcon chooses to not even respond. Even I'm a little surprised at her ferocity.

"All right, listen up!"

Burch is at the head of the group. Behind him is a group of people wearing all kinds of armor and each carrying an impressive weapon.

(They're strong.)

Each of them is almost oozing power. You could feel it in the atmosphere.

"Now, each of these people are going to call your names. They're taking you back to their Class Halls, so you can train. For now, you're not full fledged adventurers. After going through six months of training, there will be another test. If you pass this test, you will become full fledged adventurers and can start taking quests. They'll call you guys one at a time, so listen for your name!"

With that, the people behind Burch start stepping up and calling names.

Matt is called by a girl with glasses and shoulder length hair. She holds a staff made of stone in her hands and her robes are a dark brown.

When Natalia's name is called, she gives me a wave and a small smile, then goes over to a elderly man wearing green and brown robes. The white bushy beard somehow completes his look.

Alcon gets called next. He walks over to a tall woman with dark skin. Dark grey armor is strapped to her body, and a large sword sits on her back.

Finally, I'm called. As I walk over, a girl with blonde hair catches my eye. A moment after my eyes land on her, she turns to meet my gaze like she had felt it on her.

He eyes are a stunning blue. When she winks at my, my breath is taken away.

Apparently her name gets called, because she gives me a wave and walks off.

(Who was that?)

I finish walking up to the person that called me, and to my surprise, it's Burch.

As I stare at him with wide eyes, he just scoffs and turns toward the door.

"Don't be so surprised. I saw promise, and I want to be the one to turn that promise into a deadly weapon."

With that, he walks towards the door, leaving me to catch up to him.

***

Apparently before going to the Class Hall, Burch decided it was important to take me on a tour around the city.

We just walked out of a weapon and armor shop. The amazing weapons are blazed into my mind.

"Are you hungry? I know a good ramen joint nearby."

My stomach rumbles at the thought of food, but I hesitate.

"What's ramen?"

"The food of the gods."

(Wow, that good huh? Guess I need to check it out.)

Twenty minutes later, Burch and I walk out of the tiny shop with satisfied sighs.

"You were right, that is the food of the gods."

"I told ya. Nothin better than good ramen."

I nod in agreement as I follow Burch through the streets.

"So where are we headed to now?"

"The Class Hall. Now that you're fed, it's time to get started with your training."

I can't help but feel a little uneasy. As if he could sense it, he chuckles and pats me on the shoulder.

"Don't worry, I'll be the one training you. Anyway, hurry up."

His puts more power into his legs and is now way ahead of me. As I scramble to catch up, I marvel at my luck.

(I get to be trained by that badass? Fuck yeah!)

I eventually catch up to him, but he's still walking at a furious pace, so we don't have the time to talk.

Because of that, I notice that we're walking closer to the wall.

(Huh, I wonder if the Hall is closer to the wall so that they can respond to attacks faster?)

As we continue to walk closer to the wall, I realize that we heading for the wall. As in going out of the wall.

Sure enough, we reach the gate and after Burch pulls out a chain with a small metal plate attached to it, the guards let us walk right through.

Before he puts it away, I get another look at Burches metal plate. It almost shines a strange blue color.

"Hey Burch, what was that?"

"What was what?"

"You know, that metal plate you showed the guards at the gate?"

He nods his head in understanding and pulls it out again.

"This is my adventures tag. As your rank in the Guild goes up, so does the rarity of your tag. Anyway, we're here."

Since I had been so focused on Burch, I hadn't realized that we had stopped in front of a small mansion. Nearly an acre of grass lawn surrounds it.

As we walk up the long drive way up the house, Burch continues talking.

"By the way, there are now ten Rogues in total. Not as many of us, but we make up for it in adaptability. Our parties have the lowest rate of casualties in the entire kingdom of Cendrall."

(Guess this Class was the right choice.)

"Uou round our number to an even ten. The Tenth Rogue. Sounds nice, huh? Anyway, welcome to your living hell for the next six months."

(Wait, living hell?)
