14 Who are these people?

As the big heavy door creaked open, I had seen a bunch of people standing inside. I quickly looked up with the nurse, and he told me, "Rose, this is your family". "My family?", I said in a puzzled tone, not recognizing any of them except for Lynn. The nurse said, "I have something to tell you, it is going to be a lot to take in and may be difficult for you to understand. You have been in a coma for a year, and seem to have some memory loss. Your sister will help you with little things, so maybe she can help jog your memory. You'll have to stay in the hospital for a while, and receive some therapies, before you are stable enough to go home". I started to tremble, not knowing how this could have happened.

Lynn came up to me, and wrapped her arms around me so tightly. "I'm so glad you are awake finally", she said, stroking my head as if I was a soft pet. Quietly I asked, "Lynn, Who are these people"? Pointing to each one, she told me their names; "Emmett our oldest brother, Ann our mother, James is our youngest brother, and Louis your Father". Just as he had stepped out from behind a curtain, instinctively screamed an ungodly shriek! One as if it was a pitch higher, someone would have swore, I could have busted glass. I didn't know who he was, but all I could feel was my body telling me I was in extreme danger. The nurse stepped in front of me, and my head started to get dizzy, and I had had a massive panic attack.

It wasn't long before security came, and made Louis leave. He decided to leave peacefully, and Lynn rushed over and told me, "after you had almost died, we had no choice but to call Louis. He and James traveled all the way here so see you. They didn't even believe we made it all the way across the country". She went on, and on. Almost over loading my brain with all kinds of information about who we all are. Turned out, I'm actually 10, not 8 and that Lynn was now 20. I found out my memory was really scrambled, and that I could possibly recover, but slowly.

James interrupted Lynn, who couldn't stop talking to me. He said, "do you really not, remember me? or anything I had done to you". As I shook my head, he started to cry. Not like it was normal crying either, but straight ugly crying, with snot running out of his nose. James mumbled, "I sat here for weeks off and on watching your lifeless body grow weaker, thinking about what an asshole I was to you". Looking puzzled at him, I took his hand. "I'll forgive you, even if I can't remember, we'll start new", I said awkwardly. James wiped the snot off his face, and down the sleeve of his white turtle neck. He said, "thanks" and then walked out to find Louis. I was so grossed out, watching the snot go from his sleeve, to the rest of his shirt.

The nurse left me with Lynn, Ann, and Emmett. Only because I didn't feel threatened, or scared. The silence was killing me, as I listened to the monitors beep, and nurses shuffle about outside the room. As I thought about how to break the silence, all I could say was, "how's the weather out there"? It received some awkward snickering, from Emmett who seemed to have a super dry sense of humor. Lynn said, "I couldn't believe that you didn't tell me that you were sick". Emmett said, "Lynn, shut up. Rose was heartbroken about leaving her very first friend". Before she could even respond back, I said, "Anthony"! Emmett busted up laughing, "of course you remember him and Lynn, but not the rest of us". Lynn and Emmett laughed so hard, But Ann sat silent.
