1 In a cold sweat

I woke up in a cold sweat. I was shaking and sweating profusely but I couldn't remember my dream and if it was why I was afraid. It was dark but I heard frantic whispering. I got up and peaked out of my tent. There was the chief leader and the mystic whisper arguing. I wasn't able to make out exactly what they were saying but it was something to do with someone who they referred to as The Shaker.

In the middle of their arguing I heard a woman cry out, "Please! I can't take this anymore. Please just stop. Stop it..." she trailed off but I heard whimpering and crying. Both the chief and mystic looked towards the direction of the womans voice then back at each other.

The mystic hissed, "See! Its inhumane to let this continue,"

The chief looked defeated and nodded. They began walking towards the Family tent.

Once they were inside I grabbed my coat and took off after them as quietly as I could. I got to the tent entrance and tried to listen. I couldn't hear anything. I pulled the sheet open just slightly to see if I could see anything.

The entrance was empty, so I walked in slowly. It was warm. Warmer than my tent. I didnt want to leave my coat behind so I kept it on. I looked around the room and tried to figure out which way they went. I closed my eyes and tried to listen as hard as I could.

I heard muffled speaking...from...the floor? I opened my eyes and looked at the dirt floor. There was nothing there that could indicate some door was hidden. I used my feet to feel around the dirt for anything that could hide a latch or string.

I felt an edge. I knelt down to take a closer look. It blended in almost perfectly with the dirt floor. I felt around the edge until I felt something like a handle and I opened the door. It was a staircase that went down with fire sticks to light the way. The door was silent and made out of a material I had never seen before. I closed the door carefully as I went down the stairs. The walls changed from dirt to rock to the material the door was made out of in just a few feet.
