Chapter two

——————

10 years later

——————

My arm ached as I got up out of bed. The weather was getting bad, great on my left arm. I walked in the front room to see Kyle seated on the couch flipping through the tv stations. He noticed me awake and then smiled to himself.

"Morning hun. Uh… what's his name? Scott? He called and asked if you would come in today."

"It's Sunday, I work Tuesdays and Thursdays."

"He said it was an… emergency."

I groan as I grab my uniform, and get dressed.

—————

Pulling up in my black Honda, I could see Scott standing outside the doors. He looked stressed and marched up to me with nervousness hanging in his voice.

"Sorry this is such short notice Mae, Mike… called in today."

His eyes looked upset by mentioning his name, but I just nodded and went to the office.

Upon entering, I noticed something that resembled a red syrup. I noticed that it was in a few places to be exact. Just thinking it was anoth night shift accident, I went to work.

—————

The day past by quickly, to my surprise. I decided to work the night shift as well, just so I could have some quite peace. I love Kyle with all my heart, as every girlfriend should. He just, gets violent at night. He has a bad drinking problem, and it just kept getting worse.

"Mae? Are you alright?"

I look up to see Jeremy standing in the doorway. He looked around nervously, probably because I just stared at him for a while.

"O-Oh! Yeah, I'm okay… why do you ask?"

"You look stressed. Is Kyle giving you trouble again?"

I chuckled at his concern and placed a hand on his shoulder. He jumped and looked at me.

"No, well… a little. You know how boys are Jer."

"Y-yeah…"

As he sat down he pulled out a single envelope. It had black lettering on the front in curvsive, something Jeremy isn't able of doing. I looked at him fidget and he placed it on the desk in front of me.

"Um… someone wanted me to give this to you."

"Who?"

"He told me not to tell you."

I rolled my eyes laughing and opened the letter. The paper looked old, but the lettering was beautiful. The cursive was in perfect loops and lines, the ink was not smudged, and the signature at the bottom made my heart rate speed up.

Mae Haffman,

Hello my little song bird. If you are reading this, tell Jeremy I said thank you. Do not take this the wrong way… I have been watching you for the past few months. Your blonde hair is like a golden river, your pale blue eyes are like a clear summers day… your pale lips look so easy to kiss~

Wait for me love,

William
