Adam's changed behavior

She spent the night wondering why Adam didn't bother to greet his parents and why he rudely turned his back on them. She smiled when she thought of how her talk with his parents had gone. She was very nervous but it all turned out well, they even seemed to like her alot. She slept peacefully but she still longed to see her parents. She made a decision to go and see her parents immediately after work tomorrow.

She drifted off to sleep and has a very sweet dream where Adam confessed his love for her and melted her heart. He even went ahead and organized a grand wedding for the both of them in a church. The smiled all through the night as she slept. The morning came and the alarm that Adam had set woke her up right at the moment that the priest asked the groom to kiss the bride. Chloe was so irritated, why can't the universe just allow the groom to kiss the bride.

She woke feeling so angry and was ready to lecture the idiot who woke her up and came face to face with Adam who didn't seem to be in a good mood. She swallowed her words and sat back down, she couldn't help but notice how angry he looked as he walked towards the bathroom. "What the hell happened to him?" she asked out loud but there was no one in the room to answer her. She sat there patiently waiting for him to finish with his bath so she too can take a bath.

He came out some minutes later and she rushed in to take a bath. It was the second day of work and she didn't want to be late, she also didn't want to arrive after her boss had arrived. She took a bath in a hurry and got dressed very quickly too. She went down to have her breakfast and found Adam already seated eating his food while reading the magazine. She pulled herself a chair and sat, having her breakfast she didn't say a word. She cleared the food on her plate and left for the office.

She arrived at the office a half an hour later, she settled down and started her work for the day. Adam had come to the office in a bad mood and everyone who saw him knew not to offend him today. He walked to his office not caring about the murmurs that were going around in the office. He stopped in front of Chloe's office and stared at the closed door. His mood worsen and he entered his office and shut the door loudly with a thud. He worked on his file but his sour mood just got worse with each passing moment. He knew the cause of it and he knew what he needed to do and was only waiting for the right time.

He closed his file and relaxed his nerves by massaging his temples, he walked over to the couch and lay down. He couldn't get the image of his parents hugging Chloe out of his mind. He kept seeing it when he closed his eyes, he stopped sleeping and went on to play a game on his phone. The game wasn't a good enough distraction for his troubles so he stopped playing and paced around the room thinking of how to get rid of his problem. He walked up and down for a long time but couldn't think of a better way to solve his problem than the one he had thought of during the night.

He had to do it soon before he looses his sanity and he can't allow that to happen as he still has a company to run. He walked out if his office and with an aloof attitude, he knocked on Chloe's door and walked in only after she asked him to.

Chloe was so shocked to see him at her office and stood up to show him respect. She offered him a chair. "Sir, did you need anything? You could have asked me to come to your office instead of taking the trouble," she said feeling guilty that he came all the way to her when he was the boss.

"There is no need for that and I am already here so let's talk." he said in a voice so cold that she shivered.

"About what sir?" she asked him fearful of the direction "the talk" might take.

"There is something that I have been meaning to talk to you about. I want us to get a few things straight and there are some complaints that I would like to make."

"Complaits?" she asked confused at what he was going on about.

"As you I don't like to beat around the bush so I will get straight to the point. I don't want you to work here anymore." he said and her heart fell. She has just got her dream job yesterday and she was being fired today, she was finding it hard to process everything that was happening.

"But why did you suddenly come to that decision?" she asked him trying to contain the tears that were threatening to fall.

"Because I wasn't in my right senses when I gave you the job and now that I have thought about it properly I no longer want you here." he said calmly maintaining eye contact with her.

"What do you mean?" she asked still hoping that he wasn't trying to say what she thought he was saying.

"I simply mean that you are fired." he said and her last resolve came crushing down. The tears in her eyes came flowing down her cheeks like a waterfall. She wiped them away and looked down.

"At least tell me why I am being fired. I haven't done anything wrong to warrant being fired from my job," she said in a breaking voice. Her tears never once stopped fallng.

"I don't need a reason to dismiss someone from my company and if you take offense then I do apologize. It is in the company that if in case I fire someone without a reason. I have to compensate them a sum of one million which I already wired into your account. If there is anything else then you can talk to my personal assistant. He will take care of it." he said and left the office without saying another word.

Chloe was speechless of what just happened, she could not that the same who was so happy to give her a job yesterday. Even going as far as throwing his PA out of the office and reorganizee it for her to use would fire her like that without a reason. She needed answers but wasn't in a mood to ask them, he didn't just crush her dream but also her heart. Her spirit was broken by him and he couldn't even give her a proper reason as to why he had done that. That job not only brought her closer to her career dream but also to her love and gave her hope and now it was gone.

She got up and took her bag and left the office, she hadn't worked there much or worked at all so she didn't have much things to leave with. She walked out of the building with her head held high and smiled at the people she met. Once outside the building she took a taxi and left, she asked him to drive him away from the city. She waited until she was far away from everyone and everything before she broke down in tears. She walked to the cliff and sat down near the edge and looked into the distance. She didn't say anything or move for a very long time, her tears were the only thing that spoke what she felt.

Her eyes were red and sore but the tears didn't stop. She didn't speak or think about anything and just sat there, her mind was blank but her heart was bleeding on the inside. She had achieved almost everything she had ever dreamt of and lost them all in a matter of less than twenty four hours. She was so happy and was floating high up in the sky only to drop down to the ground the next moment. Her heart was in pain, one that she has no words to describe so she didn't even try. She watched the trees in below the cliff for hours, the sun was setting and she was still there.

Her body had long gone numb and but her heart was still in pain. One would think that after crying for the entire day her tears would run dry but the opposite happened. She cried even more that too without releasing a single sound, she didn't eat or drink anything for the rest of the day or moved from her place. She got up, wiped her tears and started walking on the road waiting for a cab.

One arrived soon after and she got on and fell asleep without even telling the driver her address. The driver kept calling her and asking her where he should drop her but she was too tired to hear him. Just then the backseat opened and Adam entered the car, he took her in his arms and gave the taxi driver the address. He had expected her to throw a tantrum at the office earlier so when she left without saying anything he felt obliged to follow her. He had to make sure that she was fine and didn't do anything stupid in anger. When he saw her at the edge of the cliff he worried that she would jump. He saw her sit down and sighed, he sat under a tree after dismissing the driver and waited for her.

He watched her sit like a statue for more than nine hours, he regretted having done what he did. He knew it was wrong that he punished her for someone else mistake but he couldn't think of a better way to go about the issue. When she got up he followed her and was about to call the driver to fetch them when she got in a taxi. When the taxi didn't drive away he went to see what the issue was and found her sleeping.

He looked at her swollen eyes and felt a stinging pain in his heart. He covered her with his jacket and let her rest on his shoulder. He paid the driver and carried her inside the house, all the maids in the house were shocked by the scene but didn't say anything. He took her to the room and laid her on the bed, he helped her out of her shoes and covered her up. He switched off the lights and left the room.
