4 The Wang Family Is Here!

Having been already tutored about the whats and hows of the upcoming meeting, Liu Rushi wasn't particularly anxious about embarrassing herself or her family in front of guests. Deep down in her heart, she was worried about whether what she was going to do was right or not and whether the timing was right.

However, she didn't get much time to second- guess herself and her decisions because it was not long before her elder brother, Liu Weimin, entered her room. Older to her by two years, Weimin didn't hesitate to play his role as an overprotective brother whenever required.

Liu Weimin, having turned twenty- six that year, was well- settled in his career as the President of Liu Corporation, the second- in- command to his father who was the CEO of their group of companies. He had dabbled in a sports career, tennis in particular, during his time in college when an elbow injury had put a halt to him becoming a national player.

Still, he knew, it was time to take over his responsibilities as the Liu Corporation heir. Having been groomed right from his childhood, he knew it was his duty and also the time to pay back for all that he had received. After all, he had no regrets in his life anymore for his parents were supportive of every correct action of his and he still got to play tennis, just not that frequently.

In the business world, Liu Weimin was described as a cold, inexpressive man who didn't like tardiness. He was a man of few words since he believed that actions would always convey more than words ever could.

Thus, despite being very protective of his own family, he didn't interact much with them. He was like an invisible being, present but at the same time, absent. Hence, he didn't share that typical 'bickering siblings' relationship with his sister.

"Rushi." He looked over at his sister as he called out to her. With their genes, he knew his sister was pretty, but her beauty was generally overshadowed by her brattiness and rebellious nature. It was only in the past few years, that she had changed her temperament adding a much more radiant and mature aura around her.

Listening to her brother's call out to her, Liu Rushi stood up from the window seat in her room which provided a beautiful view of the man-made lake on their property. Walking towards her brother, she smoothed the wrinkles out of her outfit and looked at the hand that he had extended towards her unconsciously. Looking at the extended palm of her brother for a second, she hesitantly reached out to loop her arm around his.

Liu Weimin said nothing but started walking out of her room. Just as they reached the top of the staircase, Liu Rushi stopped and looked towards her brother.

"Do I really have to do this, gē-gē?" She asked.

"You never 'have to' do anything. The question is whether you 'want to' do it?" He replied with a question, however, it was enough for her to get rid of all her doubts from the time- being.

She hmm-ed in understanding and releasing a long sigh out of her mouth, climbed down the staircase. Her heels clicked on the stairs, successfully gaining the attention of her parents and their guests.

Her father, a handsome man in his early fifties, was seated on his armchair in his iron-pressed warm brown suit making him appear to be no less than a king. Her mother, dressed beautifully in a sunshine-yellow blouse paired with a fitted brown skirt complimented her father's outfit as she occupied a seat next to him.

The coffee table in front of them was laden with tea and snacks. Doing a simple fast calculation in her mind, she figured that there were three guests, possibly. Her eyes then fell on the long couch in front of the table which was currently being occupied by two people: a woman in her 50s and a young man, about the same age as her who lifted up his expressionless eyes in her direction when she came to stand next to her father.

"Mrs. Wang, this is our daughter, Liu Rushi." Her father announced as he stood up to keep his hand on her back in the faintest of touch possible. She greeted the guests by simply joining her hands and bowing her head a little accompanied by a little smile.

The woman, whom she now knew as Mrs. Wang smiled at her and called over to sit next to her. Despite being in her fifties, she had maintained her youth well. Though some of it was artificial beauty, the fact that she cared enough about it was clearly evident.

Dressed in a navy ankle-length cheongsam adorned with sequins that glittered like diamonds paired with diamond earrings and a bracelet, her outfit befitted the vibe of a very wealthy lady. She seemed to possess one of those narrow eyes that would make one think of her as a very cunning woman however that thought could be easily dissolved when one would hear that angelic laughter of hers. She was the kind of woman who could enchant anyone she wanted to, be it old or young.

Passing by the young man who was still anonymous to her, Liu Rushi took a seat next to Mrs. Wang. Su Jiaying, the madam of the Wang family, looked at the young woman who was supposed to be her son's bride. She was exactly like she'd been described in the social circles: beautiful and meek. She smiled at Liu Rushi and enquired about herself, which was basically a formality to make her feel comfortable because she'd already conducted an investigation about the girl and her family before their visit.

Liu Rushi, though aware that Mrs. Wang was already aware of everything about her, she still answered her questions as best as she could. Her parents were also engaged in a formal conversation with the man next to her.

"Mrs. Wang, how about we let the kids talk now?"
