Chapter 1: The unexpected meeting

We decided to go back to the parking lot.

On the way, we stopped some taxis to send the drunk ones back home. I was going to drop off Betts to her home, so we said our goodbyes to others and headed towards the underground parking space to get to my car.

"Did you see him?" Betts asked me as I looked for the keys.

"Yes". My reply was short. I did not elaborate anything.

"Did you?" She asked again with a hint of curiosity.

"Mmm".

"Why didn't you say hi to him then?" She asked me again, rolling her eyes.

"I thought it was better to pretend to not see him at the time. He did the same, didn't he?" I returned the question to her.

She smiled at me. I could see the mischievous smirk on her face.

"You guys are still friends. Why didn't you say hi to him then?" I threw the sarcastic question at her as I signalled her to get into the car.

She got the message, opened the door and got into the passenger seat, making herself comfortable.

"I am friends with both of you", she said as I got into the driving seat. "But I thought I should side with you this time". She gave me a wink as I shook my head at her argument; I cannot win against her. "Anyway," she continued, "we are meeting this Saturday again".

"You know, you don't have to be conscious on my behalf". I assured her. "It's been more than seven years since I last saw him. We all have moved on".

"Yes, and that is why you can still remember how many years it has been since you last saw him", she snapped at me teasingly as I started the car. I laughed at her.

There was no point in having this conversation and so she stopped. She must have seen how I was feeling. And, I guess she knew- she is really bad at counselling me; she still was as bad at it as she was back then.

She changed the topic and so we started talking about our meet up with friends after such a long time.

Betts came back from Texas to attend her brother's wedding next month. And since the girls were all here, we decided to meet up, today to have dinner. Next Saturday was our official get together with all the classmates including the guys; one that I was not looking forward to.

Betts' house came into view and I stopped the car in-front of the gate.

"Thanks for dropping me", she said as she got out of the car and closed the door. But instead of going in, she turned and looked at me as if she wanted to say something.

"What?" I asked her although I knew what she wanted to say.

"Sophie," she looked at me as she called my name softly.

"Huh?" I raised my eyes to look at her.

"Are you okay?"

"Of course I am Betts," I assured her. "Now go in. Your dear husband must be waiting for you". I teased her suggestively.

She stared at me for a few seconds more and nodded her head.

"Alright, I will see you next Saturday. Just call me if anything alright," she said.

"Okay maam".

I teased her. After few minutes of good nights and take care statements, she finally went in and I drove away.

Next Saturday, I thought to myself as I drove to my home.

I was not really looking forward to meet him. I have avoided him all these years and so did he. I did not want to meet him cause I didn't know how I will react.

Just passing him on the street made me think of all those things I have fantasised. How the hands that were holding someone else's hand used to run all over my body; how they made me loose myself- STOP!

What was I thinking? This is crazy. I should stop this.

But the thoughts kept on coming to me whole night as I lay in bed- and I couldn't help myself thinking of the time when we were going wild in each other's warm hugs.
