9 Couple's Fight

Lyzbeth Heredis

'Tis a new day.

I wake to the sound of my alarm clock. I made sure to set that damned alarm clock right. I'm not going to be late to face that Latin angry face. I wake up so early that the sun has not even risen yet. Even mischievous Merilyn is still asleep. This time, I make sure to be ready. I take a nice yellow blouse and some pants to go along with it. After years of wearing that green dress, I am finally free to wear what I want again.

And, this time, I got to school on time.

The guards seem to remember me. They merely give me that look as if they can already tell that I am a trouble here. Oh, well. As I walk on the grounds, now I notice the true atmosphere of Scire National High School. 'Tis only the second day of school, yet everyone seems to be studying their heads off. I see students reading amongst themselves. Usually, there would be a clamoring noise in a school. The noise, however, is not due to laughter or fun. Yep, Welcome back to Scire indeed for me.

Suddenly, as if a wind swept by, Latin angry face walks by me as if he is in a hurry. From the expression of his face, I can tell that he is rather angry about something. Seriously, lighten up! Why is he in a hurry and why is he angry again?

Well, I couldn't care less. I just continued walking towards the main school building. When I got to my room, I see that Romain is still not there. There's this girl reading a book covered with a paper, but no one else. I suppose I should not disturb her to try and befriend her. Somehow, I cannot help but stare at her. There's something in her that strikes me, and I don't know why. Is it her jet-black hair? Is it her gray eyes?

Maybe, I should leave. I shouldn't be even looking at her this way. I went up the fourth and highest floor of the school. Maybe Jensine is already here. I think her room is at Room 404. Just being here in the fourth floor already makes me uncomfortable. The seniors look at me as if they would eat me whole. And then, at the end of the hall by the windowpane, there she is. And she is arguing with Sir Magister?

What? These two had a history? I mean sure, understandable! Jen is a thousand years old and that Latin angry face is probably in his mid-life. But, wow! I tried my best to listen to this heated conversation. They speak so rapidly that I could hardly keep up. As I follow it, I finally understand that they are not speaking in Latin or Lingua. They are speaking in Gonin. What? Why are they using the Cassidan national language in their argument?

"You had one job, and you failed!" Sir Magister exclaims.

"How is it all my job?" Jensine cleverly retorts. "Shouldn't you also have done your part?"

"Well, clearly, you failed seeing that you do not even know anything!"

"I am not a stalker! Why would I know every action a person makes? I cannot understand you!"

Wow. . . is this a couple's fight? Interesting. . . Jensine is surely telling me nothing. I know her to be enigmatic, but never this enigmatic. Latin angry face is always angry, but Jen? Sure, she's salty, but never this much. I can see the fire within her. But suddenly, I feel a presence behind me. It was as if there is a person watching with me. I look behind me, and. . . Damn!

"You, back to your classroom! What are you doing there?"

'Tis another angry instructor! Seriously! Why are all the instructors of Scire National High School always angry? I could almost laugh this off, but seeing the crook of his forehead and the papers he's holding, I almost slid back out of fear.

"Shall I now give you detention?" he asks.

"On what grounds?" I ask bluntly.

"You're a fighter, aren't you?"

I look back at the arguing duo and it seems that they are now arguing in a different language. I wish I could be a polyglot. I am only a trilingual person. Maybe if I know more languages, I can have a wide social network of friends around Medeis.

"Young lady, why are you still watching this?"

Oh, right. Another angry face is before me. I wonder what he's teaching. We already have a Latin angry face. Why not this one?

"Is this my grounds for detention?" I ask innocently.

If it is, I'd happily take it. You don't see my friend and a Latin teacher arguing over some matter I cannot understand. From his face right now, I can see that he is also enjoying this. This other angry face might not even considering me for detention.

"Nah, don't worry about it. This is also a fun sight. I was just messing with you."

I knew it! He lets out a wry smile with this sight. Maybe, he has experienced a sight like this too.

"What are they arguing about?" I ask him.

"It's probably over an unjustifiable grade a year ago. Students here tend to be. . . feisty, just like that one. Ruairi Magister has a tendency to give tough grades."

Maybe, I won't really know what they mean. Awkwardly enough, he's watching this with me behind this little pillar. So, 'tis not just the students here that tend to be a gossip. Even the instructors here are more curious than a cat.

"So. . . are you a 10th grade teacher?" I ask awkwardly.

"Sure am, young lady. You're new here, aren't you? The name's Doncho Ira. Maybe I'll see you later in class."

"Ummmm, yes."

"So, what's your name?"

"Lyzbeth Heredis, sir." Right, I can't take this anymore. Being with him is just far too awkward. We should not even be watching this. "I have to go now, sir," I say respectfully.

Iran back to the stairwell and back to my classroom. What a weird morningindeed. When will my mornings ever be normal?
