16 The Unforgettable Scene

The function was over after 3 long hours. Isla and her two friends were on their way to home. Celine noticed that something's wrong with Isla.

"Isla, why do you look so sad? Is something wrong?" Celine asked Isla with a worried expression on her face.

"Just that I didn't see him today. I really hoped to see him. Maybe he didn't attend the function." Isla was a bit down.

"That's so strange. Every students were expected to attend the function unless they have a serious problem." Davina said, looking amazed.

Isla was worried. What happened to him? Did he still not clear the problem with his father? Was he alright? Her mind was flooded with questions. She was so worried about August that her face was darkened.

"I really hope he's fine." Isla whispered.

Sawing Isla's darkened expression, Celine tried to changed the topic. "If your parents return to New York next week, how will you spend the summer vacation? Will you spend alone here?"

"I thought so. It will be the first time I'm away from my family; so it will be a bit difficult to adjust myself." Isla looked busy minded.

"Don't worry. We are with you. I will make sure to disturb you all the time that you won't feel bored for even one second!" Davina declared, crossing her arms and her head held high, like a proud peacock.

The three girls burst out in laughter. "Sure. You can disturbed me as much as you want. I will be so pleased to have you by my side all the time." Isla played along with Davina joke.

Davina was the mood maker as always. Though Isla was worried due to August, she felt a strong sense of peace when she was with her two best friends. She knows that they will always be there for her and that gives her strength and put her mind at ease.

Isla's house

Isla reached her house and tried to went straight to her room. But she heard her mother calling her name.

"Isla? Is that you?"

Isla went to the kitchen where her mother was cooking for dinner.

"Yes, mom. I heard no sound, so I thought you were asleep."

"Did you have fun today?" The mother asked with a warm voice.

Isla nodded her head.

"Your father called just a few minutes ago. He said that we need to return to New York the day after tomorrow."

Her mother words really shocked Isla. She gazed at her mother with her eyes wide opened. "What? But you told me it will be next week. Why change so suddenly?" She was anxious.

"I know, sweetheart. It is from the headquarters. I don't know much about it. He also said our plane will depart early in the morning."

"In the morning? That means we only have one day left to spend together!" Isla was worried knowing that she will be away from her family after one day.

"Are you sure you want to stay here alone?" The mother's voice was full of worries for her daughter.

"Mom, don't worry about me. You know me well. I'll be fine even if I'm alone." She reassured her mother with a soft smile. Then she went to her bedroom.

As soon as she was alone, she felt a surge of anxiety again. She took her cellphone and called August. She called him a few times but he didn't picked up. She became more anxious. The pressure gets into her head. She can't sit still and walked back and forth in her room again and again. What's really happening? Did something bad happened to him? Why didn't he picked up my call? This is not like him.

'Should I go and see him?' She asked herself.

'No, it's not a good idea. I didn't even know where he is now.' She refused her own idea. Then she sit still worriedly, not knowing what to do.

August's house

August was sitting alone in his room. He recalled the scene he saw in the school garden, again and again. He clenched his fist and his eyes were fierce. He didn't know why he was so angry. She's her friend, not her lover! So, what's wrong for her to date some other guys?

While he was busy searching an appropriate explanation for him being so angry, his phone went off. He looked the caller ID and his eyes was wide opened due to amazement. It was Isla - the one who put him in an unfamiliar situation which he didn't like at all. He tried to answer the call, a little smile in his face. But the unforgettable scene he witnessed at the school garden popped up in his mind, once again. He refused to answer.

After a few missed calls, the phone was finally silent. As he tried to put it down, he received another call. This time, it was not her. It was a call from another girl. He tried to reject the call but picked up after he think twice.

"Hello, Charlotte." He said with a low tone voice.

Charlotte was two years his senior at school. He used to date her for a while around two months ago. She was beautiful and popular just like the other girls he used to date.

"Hello, August. Sorry for calling you. But I don't know what's going on with me tonight. I really missed you." Charlotte said with a warm voice.

Her voice was really sweet and beautiful, especially on the phone. She will surely be qualified for a DJ if she wished to. But for August, she was just one of the girls he used to date, nothing more than that.

"So what?" August answered with a gruff voice.

"Could you come to see me?" Charlotte asked with a sweet and seductive voice.

August was bored of his ex girlfriends who keep calling him. This is not the first time Charlotte called him saying she missed him. She called her a few times after they break up but August always rejected her call. He tried to refuse her invitation this time too.

As he tried to speak up, he recalled the scene he witnessed, for once again. 'If she can date some guys, I can do it too' He thought to himself. But he was a bit reluctant. His devil side told him to accept Charlotte invitation.

"Sure. I'll come over to your house. I missed you a lot too." He finally answered with a devilish smile. "I'll be there in an hour. Wait for me." He added.

He changed his clothes, took his bike keys and drove to Charlotte house....
