34 I Have Everything Under Control

(Morgan Pov)

It has been 2 weeks since Lyn wanted to talk to me. Now she is back, I hope I can answer the questions she has this time. Not going to lie, I wasn't sure if what I was saying was too complicated to understand. It was a miracle I sounded somewhat competent.

Please don't ask me anything too complicated, my small brain can't handle it. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating too much. But still, I'm walking a very fine line and I have no idea what I am doing.

"How are you doing this morning Lynlyn?"

"Good, thank you for asking."

Well, this is awkward. I can see very clearly that she wants to ask me something, but she is hesitating. Come on, you can do it. Just say something, I will respond to it.

"Can I um... ask you a question?"

"What do you need? Don't be afraid to ask me anything, remember I am here to help you. I will do my best to answer you."

"Thank you, Morgan. After we talked I started to think about all of the things everyone was good at. I then started to make a list of who was the best at what, and then I noticed something. When it comes to fighting, you are at the top or near the top of the lists I made.

I know you worked hard to improve your skills, but there is one thing I can't stop thinking about. I can understand if you are very good at one thing, but you are good at doing a lot of things. How did you find the time to improve in so many different areas?"

That is a very good question, and it is one I do not have a good answer for. There are a lot of things I can't talk about. Part of the reason why I was able to improve very quickly was because of dark magic. But that only happened after I learned the unique properties of my dark magic.

After I learned what I can do with it, I exploited it as much as I could. Before that, I simply did a lot of stupid things and hoped they work. I kept trying to recreate things I heard about in my old life or things I read about in fantasy literature.

I tried to get the most out of those stupid experiments and I did manage to recreate some of those things. I also learned from a legendary hero who in a short amount of time taught me many useful skills and a great foundation to work with.

Other than those two things, it was good old-fashioned hard work and learning from failure. I can talk about those experiences, but she already knows that. What should I do? I think it might be a safer choice if I just showed her how I learn things.

Yeah, let's go with that. If I do that, then I won't have to lie to her. That will also show her my learning process and what specific steps I take to improve my skills. That may clear any doubts she is hiding from me and for most seeing is believing. Okay, let's go with that.

"I don't know what to say to you, I don't want to say I work harder than the others. I think it would be easier if I showed you what I do to learn or improve a skill. Part of the reason why I think I improve so quickly is that I am crazy enough to try things no one else might.

Sometimes my crazy ideas work and sometimes they don't. Either way, I try my best to learn something from those experiences. I can't explain what I do, I just get an idea and hope for the best. That's why I think it's easier for you to watch what I do closely.

Just think of something you want me to learn how to do. I'll do my best to either learn how to do it or at the very least try. If it is something I know how to do already, you can still watch me slowly improve. I don't know how long this will take, but this is the best idea I have right now."

I hope she doesn't ask me to do something impossible or something that will bring me a lot of pain. And if she does ask me to do either of those things, I will still do them because I offered to do so. I have to own up to what I said, no matter how much I might regret it later on.

"Do you think you can learn how to fly?"

"Why do you want me to learn how to fly? There is no possi-!"

Wait a minute! I just thought of 2 ways I could possibly use to fly or something similar. Why haven't I thought of this earlier? Option 1, I could use magic to somehow make myself levitate and propel myself forward when I am in the air.

I have never experimented with using magic to move things, but I think it may be possible. I think I can use magic to produce a lifting force greater than the force of gravity acting upon an object. The problem is how much magic it might cost to achieve that result.

I could coat my entire body with magic and then somehow lift myself upwards. How would I go about doing that without hurting myself? My idea is to not only use that coat of magic to protect myself, but I think I can also use it to have more control over my movements.

By coating myself in magic I can protect myself against air resistance or anything I crash into if I decide to move at high speeds. I can also use it to recreate omnidirectional movement that is only possible in zero gravity, by pulling every part of my body towards a certain direction.

To do something like that I need to have a constant output of magic to maintain that protective coat of magic. To start, maintain, or control any movement, I need to have precise control over my magic. This will require a lot of focus to do, but I think I can do it.

I still need to run some experiments before I test this idea on myself. I currently lean towards the offensive side of magic, so there is a high chance I will hurt myself if I attempt it now. I could see myself accidentally creating a corrosive coat of magic to cover things.

I can also see myself creating a vise of sorts when I apply force to the magic coating. I can just imagine crushing my entire body into a bloody meat paste. Maybe this isn't a good idea, but it would be amazing if I can somehow pull this off. This is a tough decision to make.

"Morgan. Morgan. Morgan!"

"AHGH!"

Fuck that hurt! I kind of deserve that for letting my mind wander during the conversation. I can always think about this later, I should probably pay attention to her now. Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, we were talking about me learning something.

"Sorry about that, I started to think about it a little more. I think it may be possible, but it will take me a couple of years to do that. I don't have enough magic power to make myself fly. I am not even sure if my idea will work, but I have an idea at least. Do you want me to try it?"

"No, I don't want you to try it! Stop thinking about it, you're scaring me! I was joking when I said that. I wanted to see what you meant by crazy things no one else might try. I also wanted to see if you were lying about that or if you were serious."

"Oh. So uh... what do you want me to do then."

"I don't know what I want to do. Maybe jump really really high, that's kind of like flying. And you don't need magic to do that. Is that good? I can't think of anything else right now."

"I'm good with that and it's a lot safer too. I could possibly die trying to make myself fly, but it's no big deal."

"What do you mean by you could die and it's no big deal?"

"Shhh, shhh, shhh, it's okay don't worry about it. You want me to jump high, then you got it. Just give me some time to come up with a more detailed plan. I promise you, one day you will see a body soar through the air."

"Morgan you're scaring me, don't do anything stupid."

"It's fine. I have everything under control."

It's time for option 2.
