29 Guild of Gods: Scene 2

They set up three green walls this time. He stands in the same exact spot he was in when they cut the last scene. He groans as if he's being put out, reaches into the back of his jacket, and pulls out a xiphos sword. After spinning it a couple times, he dips in the gasoline he just poured. He rushes towards what's supposed to be a 13 headed hydra and holds the sword up to ignite it with lightning. Propelling himself off of a green screen platform, he launches himself 20 feet into the air. He slices the air where the creature is supposed to be and rolls into a landing. He proceeds to do a series of choreographed moves to fight the invisible hydra. It looks like he's doing a combination of martial arts and acrobatic moves. To do this he must have spent months getting his body into condition and learning the choreography. Finally getting past the hydra, he grabs the dummy and rushes towards one of the green walls. Kicking off the wall, he uses the momentum to fly over the imaginary creature. Once he lands he makes a run for it. Reaching the end of the line of gasoline he touches his sword to ignite the building. Hitting his knees he hugs the dummy to shield it.

"Cut! Good job Will. Let's do a few more takes for medium and close up shots, and then we should be ready to shoot the scene with Joy."

Will looks at the monitor with the director and they talk about a few things that the director wants to make sure Will understands. While he shoots the other shots, Joy starts going through her lines with her mother for the next scene. She's very professional for such a young age. When they call for break Will breaks character. He's out of sweat and you can tell he's exhausted from the fight scene. He peels out of his leather jacket and his black t-shirt clings to his eight pack. Oh my gosh! I'm checking him out. What is wrong with me? Stupid Astra stupid! You cannot think of him this way no matter how hot he is. He is not a prospective boyfriend, he is your boss. He is your money tree. Do not check out your money tree. Besides, no matter how nice a man is to me, whenever there is romance involved they will always treat me like trash. I will never date anyone. Especially, not after what he did to me. No man wants damaged goods.

While I think this to myself, I grab an ice pack and two bottles of water from his trailer. When I get to his chair, he is leaned back with his eyes closed. I take the jacket from him, put the ice pack behind his neck and start to fan him with some papers I'm holding.

"How are you feeling?"

"I'm fine."

"Drink this,'' I say while handing him one of the bottles of water.

"Do you think you can do the next scene?"

"I can do it. I just need a break. While I'm resting, go over the lines with me."

"Yes, sir."

"Will."

"I'm sorry?"

"It feels weird when you call me sir. Just call me Will."

"Ok, Will."

Grabbing the binder from next to me, I start to go over the lines with him. He's got them all memorized and just focuses on his inflection and emotion. After a few minutes, he takes a break to rest his voice before the scene. I ask the people from hair and makeup to touch him up. They spray him with water to make him look sweaty, and his shirt clings to him again. Oh my, this man is blessed. Stop it. This isn't a man, he's your money tree. Money tree, money tree, money tree. I repeat the mantra a couple more times in my head to make sure I remember that. There's plenty of fish in the sea, and none of them want you anyways. Now forget the fish and get your head on right. Putting fake blood and dirt on his face and neck, he looks like he just got out of an explosion.

"5 minutes!"

He looks like he's thinking about his lines so I help him shirk into his jacket and adjust his clothing. He steps back into the green screen area where Joy is waiting. She looks nervous. Will kneels down to her level to talk to her. I can't hear what they're saying. It looks like he's telling her a story. She starts to giggle. And for a split second, he goes to ruffle her hair but gets death threats from the hair team so he just pats her shoulder. He then tells her something and she develops a sorrowful look on her face. He gives her a nod of approval. The director starts calling out commands and they get into the same position he was in with the dummy.

"Action!"

Will holds her in a hug for a few seconds. Once he's sure the explosion has finished, he puts his hands on her shoulders and looks her in the eyes.

"You ok kid?"

"I, I forgot my line. I'm sorry"

"Cut! Lets try that again."

Will talks to her for a few moments and she nods her head. They get back to their starting position.

"And action!"

"You ok, kid?"

Tears well in her eyes as she shakes her head.

"Where are your parents? You got a mom?"

"She's … no longer of this world."

"Hades domain, huh. How 'bout a dad?"

"He was supposed to meet me here. I got a letter that said that he would meet me here."

"Let me see it."

Handing him a crumpled letter he looks it over and then smells it.

"Why does it smell like the sea?"

Looking up from the letter he looks into her eyes. She stares behind him. Spinning around to see what she's looking at, his eyes widen in surprise."

"A child of Poseidon."

He looks her up and down evaluating her.

"Got any family?"

They stand in silence. After a moment he pulls out another cigarette and lights it with the non existent fire. He takes a drag and then exhales.

"Guess it doesn't matter, anyways. Once Amphitrite knows you're alive, who knows which one will come after you. You're safer with your own kind anyways."

Pausing, he takes another drag from his cigarette and savors it.

"Got a name, kid?

"Marcelline, but everyone calls me Marcie."

"Alrighty Marcie, let's go. I'm gonna take you to Chiron. He should be able to help."

"Who's Chiron?"

"Ever hear stories of the Gods?"
