Stargazing (5)

After she entered her bedroom, Emma washed her face and then lay her body on the bed. At first, she thought she would have trouble sleeping since she was in an unfamiliar place, but she was wrong.

Her body was tired and, mentally, her mind was so busy with various thoughts about the fate of her parents. Emma was so scared to imagine that, even though she tried so hard to find her father and mother, there was a possibility that her parents have actually died. It made her feel exhausted.

She fell asleep a few minutes after her body touched the mattress.

***

Three hours later, a hand touched Emma's shoulder gently. The girl immediately opened her eyes and realized that Haoran was sitting on the edge of her bed and tried to wake her by touching her softly.

"Eh ... is it 2 am already?" Emma asked. She got up and rub her eyes. "I want to wash my face first."

She then walked toward the sink and washed her face to freshen up. Haoran waited for her to finish and then voiced, "The boys all passed out in my room, I cannot send them out. So, I was thinking of bringing the telescope here? What do you think?"

"I see," Emma then nodded. "OK, sure."

She then walked to open the door to her balcony while Haoran returned to his room and soon came back, carrying the large telescope with him. Haoran placed the telescope on Emma's balcony so they could enjoy the meteor shower, which was about to begin.

"Bring some floor cushions here, so we can sit on the floor while watching the sky," Haoran asked Emma while he positioned the telescope to get the perfect angle. The girl nodded. She brought two large floor cushions and placed them near the telescope.

"Luckily, the sky was clear tonight, so we could see the meteor shower well," Haoran said happily.

Emma just smiled at his words. For her, good or bad weather made no difference. With her powers, Emma could do whatever she liked and stop the rain from pouring if she wanted.

"I want to make tea for us," Emma said. "Wait here. I will be quick."

"I'm coming with you," Haoran replied. He followed Emma into the kitchen and accompanied the girl to make a pot of tea for them. After they were done, he brought a tray filled with the teapot and two cups, while Emma brought snacks for them to watch the sky.

Ten minutes later, they were already sitting on the floor cushions on the balcony of Emma's room and getting ready to watch the sky.

"It's begun," Haoran said, sipping his tea. He pointed to the sky above them. "I just saw two falling stars right over there. Just observe with the telescope, there must be hundreds caught by the telescope lens."

Emma nodded. She placed her cup on the floor and immediately observed the sky through the telescope in front of her.

"Aahh ..!" Involuntarily, she shrieked with joy. Emma had seen hundreds of meteor shot down from space and burned as they entered the Earth's atmosphere. It was such a beautiful spectacle. She was amazed by the hundreds of falling stars. "This is.. gosh.. oh, so pretty... !!!"

Emma kept squealing with excitement as she watched meteor after meteor fall from the sky. This was far more beautiful than the fireworks they had witnessed earlier.

Haoran only smiled at Emma's squeals of excitement. He approached the girl and sat beside her to look from the telescope as soon as Emma pulled her eyes from the lens.

"So beautiful ..." Haoran said.

"Yeah ... right. How beautiful. Go on, you see for yourself," exclaimed Emma. She took her eyes off the telescope lens and turned to Haoran.

For a moment, the girl was dazed. Haoran apparently was looking at her when he said the phrase 'so beautiful' earlier. And now their faces were facing each other at such close proximity.

"Beautiful," Haoran said again, smiling. He was elated to see how happy Emma was when she observed the night sky and how much the meteor shower fascinated her.

Tonight, he thought Emma looked especially prettier than usual because happiness was emanating throughout her whole being.

Emma looked at Haoran without blinking, as Haoran looked right into her topaz eyes and smiled faintly.

The quiet and solemn atmosphere, adorned by meteor showers in the sky above them, made their hearts beat faster and their chests filled with warmth.

Haoran slowly closed his eyes and brought his face closer to kiss Emma's lips. The girl held her breath, and when their lips met, she naturally responded to Haoran's kiss. She also closed her eyes and welcomed Haoran's sweet lips on hers.

They kissed gently.

Emma's hands were wrapped around Haoran's neck, while the young man's arms wrapped around her waist.

From The Author:

My dear lovely sweet amazing beloved readers!

Thank you so much for investing in this story, especially spending your precious few minutes every day to read this book. We all know that time is your most valuable possession since it's a portion of your life that you'll never get back. Your time is your life.

So, I'm humbled that you give a part of your life for this book. I promise that I will keep working hard to write this book until the end and take you on a wonderful journey along the way. I hope when you read it, you will feel the same joy I got when I was writing it.

To tell you a little bit about myself, I have been writing since I was 12. It was a gazillion years ago and I remember when I was in primary school I told myself, I want to be a writer someday. It has been my lifelong dream ever since.

I never published my stories anywhere, because I didn't have the means back then. I didn't even have a computer nor a typewriter to put those stories into a decent reading format. I used to handwrite them in my school books between my history, math, and science notes... and my teachers would scold me when they found out.

When I was young, the future seemed bleak for this poor aspiring writer from a third-world country, especially because I wrote fantasy which didn't sell well compared to contemporary. Anyway... my dream to become a writer had to take a backseat as life happened and I had to focus on making ends meet.

I have a decent job now, working as a freelancer, but I still dream to make it as a professional writer someday. I want to be able to wake up every morning and just decide that I want to write and write, and not having to think about how to put food on the table.

That's why I am so happy to find a platform like W.e.b.n.o.v.e.l that allows me to publish my works, reach an audience that relates to my stories, and make some money. I am not hoping to get rich from my books, but if it could give me enough to quit my day job and focus on writing, it would mean the world to me.

Thus.. I would like to kindly ask your understanding that this book will go premium soon.

GOING PREMIUM & PRICING

Going premium means the book might be locked today or next week and you can unlock the chapters with coins or fast passes. If you are new to the site, this is how the chapters will be priced:

200 words = 1 coin, and 1 coin is worth $0.02

So, the longer the chapters, the more coins needed to unlock them. For 1200 word-chapters, the price will be 6 coins, 2000 word chapters are worth 10 coins, and so on.

Out of these coins, the author will only get 30%, minus 5% tax. The other 70% was divided between Google/Apple (as app store providers) and Webnovel.

HOW MUCH AN AUTHOR ACTUALLY EARNS?

An author gets around 25% of what their novels earn. From a chapter that costs 6 coins, only 2 coins will go to the author. It's not really much, considering 1 chapter takes 1-4 hours to write (depending on the author's health, inspiration, research, etc). But the more readers unlock the chapters using coins, the more money an author could make. So.. please open the locked chapters with coins if you wish to support me and this novel.

I really hope at least 100 readers could unlock the chapters every day.

If each chapter of this book gets 100 unlocks every day, that means I will get

200 x 2 coins x $0.02 =$4 per day or $120 in one month.

I know it's not enough to live, so I will have to publish more chapters, and that's fine. At least, if I knew you are invested and are willing to support this book, I would feel encouraged to write more and more and more.

If we can get 500 unlocks every day.. I would even dance the rain dance because of how happy it would make me :).

Plus, if this book sells well, Webnovel will give it special attention and promote the book to the wider audience.

In exchange for your support, I can promise you my dedication and hard work to see this book written until the end. I never drop a book in my life and I will not leave you hanging. I hope this book brings you joy as you read it and get you through the day, feeling happier.

FAST PASSES & OTHER SUPPORT

If you cannot afford to unlock the chapters with coins, and can only use fast passes, don't feel bad about it. I love you too! I know how it feels to be poor and crave books. I understand. I was there.

I pray that you will be blessed abundantly and someday you can have the luxury to support the content creators that you love. The universe is listening :).

You can also support this book by voting your power stone so it will go up in ranking and noticed by other readers, write your thoughts about the book in the comments or reviews, give me feedback, or anything at all. I'd love to hear from you.

Lastly, I would like to thank the silent readers who are reading this book. Even though you didn't say anything, I notice your support from your power stone votes and gifts. Thank you!

love,

x

I hope these two chapters make you happy. :)

...

Thank you for caring about my younger brother. He is well now and no longer shows any signs of sickness. I feel touched by your messages of support and concern. THANK YOU!

...

Take care and stay safe, always.

PS: If you need another recommendation to watch during the quarantine. I have a personal favorite on Netflix. It's another Korean drama, titled "Reply 1988". It is a bit slow in the first 3 eps, but afterward, it flows really nicely. I love how the story is focused on friendship and family. It's really heartwarming.
