Writing A New History

Entry 46:

As I open my eyes after taking the night off, I see light beginning to peek through the window, and usually Reincarnators would complain about having to get up early, but for me.

The light I see poured through the window is confirmation that everything that I did yesterday happened.

Linus Ozias is a regular business major with two abilities that beat the worm universe.

To be honest, the work has probably just begun, but instead of going downstairs, I went up to the roof and sat down on the white plastic chair I have up there that's still there.

As I sit down and see the skyline of Brockton Bay, I can hear through my enhanced hearing parties still celebrating the end of the end bringers.

" You know, sitting here writing in this journal has really shown the progress I have had over this past year," I think to myself.

Yet here I am on the precipice of leading humanity towards a new age.

If it were me when I first started, I would be terrified of the responsibility and complexities that come with doing so.

Now, I see it as inevitable, not out of confidence or arrogance, but simply out of what is.

I had a good start; I had two good abilities and an actual ID, in addition to the fact that I had a 3-year head start.

I was lucky that I even had precog defenses.

I was lucky that I was given enough time and resources to get everything done.

But regardless of these inner machinations, I know that this work wasn't mine alone; I was aided by excellent friends, yes, friends.

Connor, Chloe, Kara, Marcus, and all the other androids played a purpose, and I couldn't have done it without them.

I am going to miss all of them when I leave.

I will miss Connor and his wardrobe of three-piece suits and ridiculous amounts of hair gel.

I will miss Chloe advising me in business and helping me with my paperwork.

I will miss coming home and seeing Kara ready at the dinner table with a meal I knew she created just for me.

I am going to miss Marcus's stoic presence in the room, and I even read his self-help books. They're pretty good.

I will even miss Dread, my AI, one of my first creations. I'm going to miss that tsundere meme, lord. As well as Cyber(Porygon) and Mag(Magnazone) along with all the magnemite.

You could argue that I could take them with me by simply copying their memory drives and personality matrixes, but I can't, and I know it.

This was not only my first test end quest but also a lesson on how to let go.

But I still have time, and I will eventually be able to come back to this world, maybe just to reminisce or to look upon any inefficiencies or mistakes I have made.

 Hindsight is 20/20, they say.

For now, I'm just going to take this day and relax. I think I've earned it.

And for the first time ever since coming here, I sit back in the chair and relax.

I should check on the Herbert family, and then I use my increased eyesight to look through the city.

And do you know what I see?

I see a happy family sitting down for breakfast with a family that will never know what could have happened.

In another time in another universe, things could have gone so much differently.

And now Danny Taylor Annette will all be able to grow old and live how they see fit among every other family on this planet.

Seeing the fruits of my work almost brings a tear to my eye.

This universe is no longer a world of characters with protagonists, antagonists, and recurring villains.

Though they will never have to know what they avoided.

I still remember the original chapters from the novel, and I imagine what it felt like as the world was split into kingdoms ruled by warlord parahumans.

Other worlds invaded this earth out of revenge due to Zion's rampage across multiple dimensions.

Billions upon billions of lives were lost, and while I'll never say that my methods were good, they worked, which is weirdly close to Cauldron and their whole deal.

But unlike them, I'm the man who won, and history is written by the victors after all.

But now I can just sit back and enjoy my victory lap.

 Nothing can ruin my mood.

"What is it?" I ask, totally not annoyed at being interrupted.

On the other side of the line, I hear Chloe, who sounds unhappy with me, " Sir, I know you are trying to relax after your ordeal yesterday, but I need you to come to the office, please?"

I simply sigh in complete and utter disappointment and go to wash up and get my suit on.

 Adulting is the worst.

After teleporting to the office, once I washed up, I found Chloe nearly crushed under mountains of paperwork.

I am very tempted to use my laser eyes to disintegrate all of the unholy texts.

But as if she read my mind, Chloe gets out from under the pile of papers and gives me a look that says, "Don't you dare."

Wanting not to upset my CFO, I head to my table as she comes to give me a daily report.

" Sir, multiple world governments want to speak with you about why your orbital weapons went off over ten times," Chloe says while cycling through multiple calls.

I take the phone from Chloe and begin the laborious process of assuaging the public.

Hey, if Lex Luthor can commit every crime under the sun and still be a high-level businessman, I can do it, too.

And hey, at least I still have my hair. That's a plus.

"This is going to take a while," I think as I finish up with my 10th call of the day.

Timeskip No Justu (10 Hours Later)

Contessa POV:

Well, he did it. I knew he would, as anything is possible for the supreme leader.

{Out of everything that's happened, I would say I'm somewhat impressed he managed to pull it off}

I know she's lying as I could hear in the back of my mind once the end bringers and Zion were destroyed; she was crying her heart out.

{But now here's the question: what happens to us now?}

That my inferior self is what you are going to have to deal with now.

{What do you mean what is going to happen next?!}

I can feel her fear at my words, and to be honest, she should be afraid because, sadly, we were not made to last.

After thinking about these words, I am called to the main meeting room with the remaining members of Cauldron.

After a couple of minutes of waiting, the supreme leader comes out of one of door maker's portals, looking at all of us with an unreadable expression.

Even knowing what is going to happen next, I can't help but admire the supreme leader in all of the utter grace and authority he exudes.

When he first created these separate personalities, he was still the supreme leader, but now he seems more.

Not just more confident but more assured, yet it is not arrogance but simply understanding an inevitability that only he can see.

He then begins by addressing the room, " Well, I would like to begin by saying congratulations. We want the entity to be gone, and soon the others will follow, and humanity is ready to be uplifted to a golden age."

He pauses as he looks over us as if taking in our forms for the last time, and this will be the last time.

{What do you mean? Stop being so vague. What is about to happen?}

He then continues, " Let it be known that each and every one of you has sacrificed many things to help humanity, and I admire your drive to pursue your goals."

He then presses a button on his wristwatch, and I feel myself fading away.

Goodbye, my inferior self, and may his punishment be light.

After a couple of minutes, I can regain my bearings as I can finally move all parts of my body, and as I try to get up, I am forced down yet again.

As I somewhat panic, I look over to the other members of Cauldron and see that they are also trying to leave their chairs but cannot.

I yell in frustration, " Well, you won. What is the point of this charade?"

He then chuckles as if finding our frustration amusing, and he comes around the table, placing his hands on my shoulder.

" You know, Contessa, you were my greatest fear when I came to this world next to the end bringers and entities, of course."

This world, oh my God.

" You're not a native of this dimension, are you? Does Linus Ozias even exist? Is that even your real name?"

He continues to chuckle, which infuriates me as I'm used to having all the answers, and this is just insulting.

" Ohh, my fellow compatriots, the name I hold is my real name, but I am simply not of this world. I was given a task and goal, and I am on the precipice of completing it."

Before I can say anything, he simply puts a finger to his mouth in a shushing motion, and I say nothing.

" But sadly, all of your work is now done, and none of your services are required for my new age, so all of you will be relieved."

I continue to struggle against the bonds, but I can't move, and he heads back to the front of the table and looks at all of us.

" You all may be wondering why you're unable to use your powers, and that is simply because the shard network is no more, in addition to the fact that I control all of you." He states as he presses another button on his watch.

" None of you will be leaving this room forever, and all of you will remain trapped, but you will all notice that you're unable to die but can still feel pain and hunger."

" I have already killed Doormaker and got rid of Eden's corpse and all the vials in the facility. So you will be unable to use his portals, and all of the technology in this place is gone, and none of you can access your powers."

"All of you will remain in this dimension forever cast adrift amongst the blind eternities." He then heads to the exit the room.

The weight of this situation begins to bear down on me as I dread what comes next.

" To be honest, when I first came here, I simply just wanted to kill all of you, but then I realized that would not be enough. You all need to suffer."

" So none of you will be able to leave this dimension, and who knows, maybe one of you will go cannibal and eat all of you."

" In addition to the fact that the nanites I have in all of your heads will make you feel the worst pains possible every single day."

"So again, I thank you all for your service, and your lives are your reward for surviving till the end. Goodbye and good riddance." He then proceeds to leave through one of his portals, and as he leaves, all I hear is silence, and my body begins to feel like it's being torn apart.

Danm, You Linus Ozias!

Linus Ozias POV:

Well, that's one of the last loose ends taken care of, and what did you think I would allow Cauldron to enjoy the fruits of my new world after everything they've done?

No, they shall suffer forever. Until they age and die.

Now, let's get back to work, as it's time to begin Project Ascension.

(Well, my readers, this arc is going to come to an end in a couple more chapters, and it seems Angel self-insert is in the lead with 27 votes with drop-in being in a close second with 22 votes. Keep going as time is running out.)
