22 CASUALTIES

Charles stared at the monster standing in front of him. Eight feet tall, with brown thick skin, two slanted reptile eyes, one horn protruding on his head, limbs so long with angular face and sharp chin. His nose looked more like a bat and matching sharp teeth.

It stared at him as well.

Charles didn't dare move. He was even afraid to breath loud. He in his whole life has never seen something like it. It was a nightmare came to life and even though he is having a hard time wrapping his head on the whole idea that such a thing exist he was still able to process this thought in one whole second.

He thought about the possibility of escape on either side of the huge thing, every corner that may serve to be an exit every possibility that he may be able to stay alive.

He wasn't aware that his instinct had already controlled his body. He didn't think twice when he saw that thing moved, he moved with it. He ran and jumped rolling and sliding underneath the right side where debris had already fallen apart and a smaller gap was made bigger than the other side, he used that as an advantage, while the monster realized his plan, he was already on the other side.

Afraid that another security might seen him and shoot him in a hurry he put an extra strength on the speed of his feet and run.

A tremble was felt alongside the walls, a roar so loud it overpowered the alarm that was already blurring the building with its noise. Everyone had sure heard it because they've stopped on their feet; it was when they realized there's something else that made that noise. When screams begun echoing all the way through the walls, everyone panicked. Even the guards didn't dare see and wait what had caused the bone chilling roar.

Charles saw the massive strength of his opponent, it barreled down the hall. Everything that had served to be its barrier came flying and crashing.

Ear piercing screams bombarded Charles ears and he knew he was the cause of all of it. He needed to get away and lead that thing away from people.

Charles felt the heat of the power barreling towards him, there was no other route of escape. Straight ahead he saw the light of what he remembered to be the free space where jail rooms were located above. A flock of escaping securities and convicts trying to hurl back each other was clogging the door. When they saw the massive size of the monster swathing everyone that comes in contact with it they all threw common sense and pushed forward.

Charles has no choice but to jump upwards grabbing the metal railings and swinging his way nearer the clogged door. He dropped down and stepped on people, not caring that he had caused those dropping on the floor and getting stepped on.

He dropped a good 10 ft down the floor without any knowledge of catching himself.

He heard his arm snapping his bone broken and his head from hitting the floor.

He was momentarily out blank.

When he finally came to, about a minute of it, he already saw the thing coming out of the door. With its ugly distorted face, it was already covered in blood, blood of those people it easily killed.

He didn't have the time to count the number of blue specks hovering around, the souls who might be disoriented of being killed so suddenly. He was worried he might join them if he didn't get away soon.

He was barely on his feet when the thing landed on the floor. Causing a vibration on the floor he was standing in.

Blood rushed to his head, he could feel the painful pounding of his temple, the tremor of his hands, and the burning sensation of the bullet wound on his leg. Aside from all of the painful things he was already feeling he can tell that there was a slow calming sense starting to spread on his veins. Feeling exhausted, he didn't resist the feeling and just accepted it as if he already knew what was to come.

If anything, he thought he was ready to take on the monster.

He saw the long limbs moved and a sharp metal protruded on its arms, it was so long it surpasses the length of its shoulder. There was the pressure Charles felt from the ground, and he knew it was readying to attack. When it did jump onto him, he run towards it and avoided the attack. He let his body fly, rolling with the momentum and he felt the sharp metal glazed his back a bit when the monster tried to swat him but he was able to land a good solid kick under its chin.

It roared in pain; it stepped back and shook its head.

Charles felt the pain on his left foot but he has no time to dwell on it.

He threw his left hand out closed his palm, a surge of pulsing energy came out flying towards the thing; though it happened so fast it dodged and even moved with more speed.

Charles jumped back.

There was already blood dripping down his head, obscuring his left eye from seeing clearly.

He glanced at the monster who he realized was smirking, enjoying toying with him. There are so many casualties already, he needed to get out. He realized he can't win the fight without actually knowing what his powers can do to that thing. His instinct wasn't enough.

With a clear mind he immediately scanned the entire area for a way to escape.
