FF12: Best Friend Betrayal

"Trust is like a precious crystal. Once it's broken, it will never be the same again. It's understandable to the people who've been betrayed to be more cautious and wiser."- FF12

Uly told his wife that when they were kids, Yrrah used to play with him and the other children of the Olevar's employees in the hacienda. That the little girl, Yrrah, was a happy and kind-hearted friend. She always shared or gave away her toys to the other kids. But after her mom passed away, she became cold and mean to them. She always yelled to the kids, grabbed their toys even how simple it is, and broke it in front of them. She told them hurtful words like they were low-kind, dirty, stinky, and she didn't want to befriend any of them anymore. She'd even forbidden any of the employees' children in their yard.

They thought that she was only mean to them as they were poor but, Uly even heard from the kids who were studying in the private school, where Yrrah used to go, that she was always on the fight.

'True.' Yrrah thought to herself and her mind went back to her childhood, the day when she stopped caring and trusting other people. When she started to be cold-hearted, mean, rude, or whatever they called her.

She couldn't remember anyone from her school when she went back after the accident even her friends. It's the first day of her fifth grade, her yaya wanted to stay with her but she told her that she could manage. She's just going to ask some students to where her classroom is.

She sat down on one of the chairs at the very back inside her classroom, rest her head on her desk as it was still very early and her head was quite spinning. She heard some students arrived but she wouldn't bother to check them out. She overheard what they were talking about.

"Is your best friend coming back to school today?" one of the girls asked.

"How dare you? She's not actually my best friend, yah know," another girl said in an arty and sarcastic tone, "I only befriended her because my mommy told me so. Yah knows, her mother was my mom's boss so, I needed to be nice to her. But now that her mom was dead, what's her use?" The girl even giggled.

It irritates her though she didn't know who were they talking about. 'A bunch of hypocrite girls,' she thought.

"Girls, you won't believe what I overheard from my mom's friend when they were playing Madjong last weekend," another girl said, her voice had a higher pitch like an opera singer and she talked faster. "They said that your mom's ex-boss was a slut before she married to Yrrah's dad. They even said that your best friend might not even the real daughter of Mr. Olevar."

Her ears would like to explode to the bomb that she just heard. They were talking about her and her mom.

"No wonder she's a slut, too. Like mother like daughter," coming from the voice of the second girl that they've said, her best friend.

"What are you talking about?" She raised from her chair and confronted the three girls. She saw how the color of their faces left them without bidding goodbye.

The girl with a curly hair and tanned complexion, arched her right eyebrow to her, after being recovered from the shock. "Oh, BFF, you're back. How are you?"

"Oh, BFF? My back-fighter friend! How can you say that I'm a slut?" she asked the girl in the sarcastic and rude way and gave a deadly glare to the two others. "Who's calling my mom, a slut?"

"Don't play naïve, Yrrah. You're just nine but you were flirting with the high school's boys. You always having lunch with Mr. Most Handsome of Divine Mercy Catholic School and his friends, right girls?" her 'bff' said. The other two girls nodded with an evil grin painted on her lips now.

"My mom's friend, Mrs. Smith, used to be your slut mother friend in the US. She told them that your mom used to date a lot of men before your dad," the girl with the voice like a broken bell said. She had straight hair, fair complexion, and a smaller body frame than most girls their age.

"Don't call neither me nor my mom a slut!" She grabbed the two girls with their hair and bumped their faces with each other.

They rumbled after that. Three against one. Their parents were being called to the Office of the Principal, one the first day of the school. Her yaya was the one who attended because her dad was on a business trip.

She still continued to attend her school for a few months but some other kids used to bully her because of that slander. She always came home with bruises, a broken and dirty uniform, and untidy hair like an old-scary witch's hair. She stopped going to school. She also stopped playing with all the other kids in her school and the children of their employees. Her dad wanted to transfer her to another school but she refused. She even refused to study abroad because she didn't want to be away from her dad. She wanted to be alone in their house. She told herself that she's stronger and safer being alone. So, she'd been home school from then on until high school.

Her dad clarified the issue with her. He told her that it was just normal for single men and women to have past relationships before they settled in married life. Her mom had different relationships before him and so, was he. But it didn't mean that she was a slut. Her dad said that he sued Mrs. Smith for libel. She didn't know what happens after. She was still so young to understand all of that.

She tried to forget that scenario by focusing on her studies. She read almost all the books in their library. She learned how to play the piano and violin, how to swim, and even Taekwondo. Her father gave her almost everything even some of his time to travel with her.

She went to the university in Manila as her dad told her that she needed to mingle with other people because she might be the next President and CEO of their company. She needed to have friends and start trusting others again. It's not easy but she must do it.

Neisha was her first friend at the university. But because of her trust issue, she couldn't tell her about her life. She remained secretive.

Then, her father passed away on the summer vacation of her first year, and then, she got married right after his forty days. Manang Fe said that they're supposed to wait for a year after death as per tradition, but their lawyer insisted that he was just following the decease's last will and testament.

"But why does she didn't come home for two years? She's just studying in Manila." Cez asked her husband again and Yrrah was pulled back to the present time.

Only Manang Fe and their lawyer knew about her marriage with Zacharry. And yes, they have never been to her parent's mansion after their marriage. That's why she didn't even know that Zach used to live in just the next town and that they even went to the same school before.

Yrrah even visited Zach's old house. It was just a small bungalow style house. It was locked so; she couldn't get in but the plants on the yard were still well-maintained. The neighbor's said that owner hired a caretaker of the yard even he's in the US.

Now, she had a small group of friends. Yes, she's starting to trust them after a few years but she still couldn't give all the details of her life to them like an open book. She's still anxious that the more they might know about her, the more they're going to have aces to use against her when bad things come.

But she's more mature now. Though she's still aloof, she was more considerate with others, especially the people who are loyal to their family; her yaya, their other housemaids, the employees of their companies, and her friends. She was just hoping that no one would betray her again.
