Fight for the Future

"Hahahaha Mama! You must not let go okay?~", the boy said as he sat on his mother's lap. The two of them were playing at their backyard. The mother sat on the swing while the boy sat on her lap.

"Okay~ As long as you don't let go of mama, mama won't let go of you." The boy glanced at his mother and smilingly agreed. He then looked up the sky.

As his mother pushed the swing up higher from the ground with her legs, something came to him. It felt like he was in a trance. He had an urge to reach out to the sky. An urge to let go of his mother and use to his chubby arms and hands to touch the blue sky.

Then...

Baam!

Feng Yingjie jolted awake from his slumber. "A dream? No, a memory." he whispered to himself. He looked at his bedside table and grabbed the framed picture of him and his mother. He caressed her face.

He never thought that he would have dream like that. He thought that memory was long gone. It seems like he was wrong. He glanced at the clock and found out that it was still 4:30 AM. He got up and got dressed into his jogging attire - sweatpants and a hoodie.

Back when his mother was still alive and he was just a kid, he was such a glutton. No one would be able to see him not pigging out on candies and meat. His mother reprimanded him for that. She told him that if he doesn't stop this habit of his', he'll have cavities and will be fat for life.

After her death, he worked so hard not to be a glutton anymore. He would run around the neighborhood. This came as a shock to the other clan members. They thought that he could never last and would still look like a pig. They even betted on it! Sucks for them because they all lost. Feng Yingjie was able to slim down.

He regretted not listening to his mother sooner. He would sometimes lament over the fact that his mother would never be able to witness and share the joy of his achievement.

The rhythmic sounds that Feng Yingjie made as he ran, echoed slightly through the desolate neighborhood. Then, he heard the cry of a police siren. 'No doubt another murder occurred', he thought.

He looked at his wristwatch and saw that it was already 8:07 AM. The servants were already awake and doing their chores by then. He went back to the mansion and was met with Butler Zhang by the entrance.

He nodded and walked pass him to his room. He took a shower and got ready for school. He was already in his last year of high school. Next year, its either he'll go to college or work at his father's company.

He heard a knock and a call from a maid, "Young master, it's time for breakfast."

"Okay, I'll be there in a sec."

He finished dressing and with his bag, he walked to the dining hall. Upon arriving, he already saw a heap of dishes on the table. He sat down and asked, "How about father?"

"He already went out Young Master." Nanny Liu answered. Unknowingly to others, his eyes dimmed and just ate silently.

Feng Yingjie hated his father. After his mother's death, it's like he became another person. He buried himself on work and it seemed like he didn't care about his mother and he loathed him for that.

He finished eating and went inside the limo that was ready to send him to school. When he arrived, many girls were already waiting for him. Yingjie was famous at school for his skills, his looks and his background.

The girls would scream ecstatically. They were like a bunch of monkeys ready to pounce at him.

"Aaaahhh! He's here!"

"Prince Yingjie! Marry me please!"

He just ignored them and passed by them. His two friends met him by the door of his classroom. The three of them joked for a bit and separated when the bell rang because they belong to different classes.

A heap of classes and time passed by, it was already home time. While inside the limo, Feng Yingjie decided to visit his mother's grave tomorrow since it will be a weekend.

As he passed by the living room and walked towards the stairs, he saw his father coming down. He ignored him and continued to climb up the steps.

"Yingjie" his father called to him using a stern tone. Yingjie stopped and answered, "What?"

"Come to my office after dinner."

"Mmm" and proceeded to continue climbing the stairs. His father looked at his retreating back and sighed. 'He's still depressed', he thought.

After dinner, Feng Yingjie went to the farthest room of the east wing. He knocked and called, "It's me, Father." "Come in" a voice from the other side answered.

Yingjie went in and unceremoniously sat on the sofa. His father ignored his behaviour and took something out from a shelf before sitting across him.

"What do you want?"

"Let's talk about your mother."

Yingjie stayed silent and waited for his father to continue.

"Your mother's death, to be exact."
