5 CHAPTER 5

Kayla's POV

I woke up the next morning in my bedroom. I was trying to remember how I got here but my mind came up blank. The first thing I did was look to see what time it was. The clock on the bed side table read 7 am. I guess I was just used to getting up early. I knew that breakfast wouldn't be till 8:30 so I still had an hour and a half. As I looked around the room. I noticed that there was a huge tv across from my bed. I don't know why I didn't notice that before. I sat down on the bed and grabbed the remote before turning it on. The first thing that popped up was the new. All it talked about was the four of us that got picked.

News Reporter: These four lucky people have been chosen to participate in the annual tradition. I remember being in Kayla Morsin's position. She is one lucky girl.

I didn't feel so lucky. I sat there deep in thought about how next week is going to go. I find it very cruel that they make us get to know each other before we have to kill each other. Being cruel seems to be the royal families strongest strait. I guess I was in thought for longer than I anticipated. By the time I looked at the clock it read 8am. I figured it was time to get ready for the day so I needed to pick an outfit. I had to find something short because it is the middle of summer. It didn't take me long to find an outfit.

It was short enough to keep me cool and I could put my swimsuit under it. I planned on going swimming today but first I had to finish my makeup and hair.

I decided that my eye shadow alone was good enough. The only thing left was my hair and I would be ready for the day. I figured since I would go swimming today I better put my hair up.

Once I was satisfied with my hair the clock read 8:20 so I made my way downstairs. This time I was the last one downstairs. Josh, Andrew, and Krane were all sitting in the living room. I wasn't surprised the room was silent. All of them wanted to seem tough and heartless. I don't blame them. I knew I was going to come out of this alive. We all turned towards the kitchen when we heard the maid tell us that breakfast was ready. Of course I was let through the door first and sat at the head of the table. Once again I was amazed at the food that was brought out to us. Sometimes I think they are trying to fatten us up. Breakfast started with fruit then went to French toast, and finally bacon and sausage.

I have never eaten food this good in my life. I laughed when I saw Andrew start to shove the bacon in his mouth. I think all the guys noticed because as soon as I laughed everyone stopped and smiled at me. We continued to eat this amazing food while sitting in silence. For the first time since I have been here I decided to start a conversation with everyone.

Me: So what do you guys think about going swimming today since it is so hot?

At first everyone just stared at me without saying a word. I started to regret saying anything in the first place till Josh replied.

Josh: Yeah that would be something fun to do today. We can all hang out and have some fun.

I smiled as a thank you for saving me from that awkward moment. After he said that Andrew and Krane also agreed it would be fun. I think we just wanted to keep the upcoming fight off of our minds. It took another 10 minutes for us to finish breakfast with a few comments here and there.

Me: Well I already have my suit on under my clothes so I will meet you guys out by the pool.

They all grunted in acknowledgment. So with that I started making my way outside towards the pool. When I say this pool is beautiful and huge I'm not exaggerating .

Once I found a chair to set my clothes down on I decided it was time to take my top clothing off. I pulled off my shirt first before pulling my shorts down. I love the suit I was wearing. This was the first time I have ever got to wear it.

Once I was ready to get in, I heard a cough and realized that the guys were standing a few feet away watching me. I suddenly got a little embarrassed causing my cheeks to turn red. I have never been this exposed in front of anyone, especially not men. I walked over to the pool stairs and slowly slid in. I was expecting it to be cold at first but it was nice and warm. The guys got in after me and we all started messing around as the awkwardness started to fade away. Moments like these are what I treasure the most. In this exact moment no one is competing, struggling to survive, or stress over what's to come. If only my family could feel this same peaceful state of mind right now. I knew that was a dream that wouldn't come true anytime soon. I was brought out of my day dream when I felt water get splashed into my face. I looked around to see who did it. Both Krane and Andrew were pointing at Josh who was too busy laughing to notice. I could tell already this was going to be a fun day.
